We stayed at the campsite at Kapishya Hot Springs both on the way north and back south on our East Africa safari. It is simply a magnificent campsite with beautiful hot springs, verdant African bush and a cool river. I must also acknowledge the most kind assistance of the owner who helped fix a door on my caravan.

Kapishya Hot springs is an amazing relaxing destination.
It is very remote nearly 14 hours travel from Lusaka international airport. It has been my third visit to this lodge with beautiful gardens and a natural hot spring which is spectacular!
Stay at least 2-3 nights to enjoy the activities like visiting the Historic Africa house nearby.
Mark and Mel are both excellent hosts and good tasty and interesting dishes are served for dinner!
I can highly recommend this lodge in the North of Zambia.
We will certainly visit again!

Arriving at the lodge is exciting. There’s the gush of the river, the tropical gardens, lighted trees and pathways. The reception is also the bar.

Mark Harvey checks us in and gives us a brief introduction to the setup. Dinner is at 7:30 and the springs are open 24 seven. Mark was very attending to our group’s needs - Being 3 adults and 6 teen kids he showed us the chalets and recommended the best set up.

The chalets are basic but homely. Very comfortable and with charming details.
We had and Insofu (elephant), Imbulu (hippo) and Cholwa (zebra). Each chalet has mossie nets over the beds.

The main lodge is close to being a cozy English pub. The staff, when we were there, were a mix of Zambians and travelers on work stays.

We were on full board - the food is really excellent and plentiful. To the full extent possible, everything is grown on property. Dinner is a social event with guests seated around large shared tables. An example of a meal would be pumpkin soup,
after that there’s quail, chicken wings, roasted tomatoes, cauliflower tempura, noodles, egg fried rice, carrots. So much food. Banana pancake and ice cream to polish off the meal.

If you are lucky, Mark will hold court and share stories about his family, his grandfather (Stuart Gore Brown), his grandmother who lived to 94, his mother (Lorna Harvey, Lorna has married John Harvey) and various guests and characters he’s met over the years. There is a passion for the project, the work involved and the value it brings to travelers and community.

The warm springs bubble up in a sandy pool that overflows into a rocky bed and then the flowing Mansa River. Itself, the Mansa River winds along all the way to the Chambeshi River. Itself a source of the Congo River. The pool is gorgeous with warm (40 degrees C) silky, heavy water that feels so soothing on the skin. With the cool night air, steam rose from the pool up to the stars.

Breakfasts and lunches are great too - full English, French press coffee, yoghurts, fruit, bread.

At Kapishya there isn’t a lot ‘to do’ except take in the vibe. There are walks, there are cave paintings, there’s a paddle trip along the river, but really it’s a great place to recharge and enjoy a couple of days downtime in great company. And there’s always the springs.

Mark himself is a fountain of knowledge if you have any practical questions.
While connected through family, the Kapishya Hot Springs are 20 mins or so along the road past Shiwa Ng’andu. Mark also runs the incredible Buffalo Camp - in nearby North Luangwe park.

We had a great time, Mark, his team and of course his dogs are all a joy and we were so happy to have stayed: a great transition after Ndola and before the Safari parks to come. Fun ahead of true adventure, socially uplifting, lazy and a great recharge.

At first I was a bit sceptical to go to the Hot Springs in summer. But as soon as I sat down in the hot water I felt my muscles were relaxing. Best time of the day is the early morning. ;)

Kapishya has everything needed for a relaxing stay. The food is exceptional (thankyou Mel) and it was great to see where most of it was grown with a tour of the gardens conducted by Moses.

A place in northern Zambia. Where i was estonished by what I ended up in.
It’s a magnificant piece of land that you enter from the Great northern road.
George picked us up from the bus. We were still paralized from the endless busride.
But when we started driving on the dirt road towards the lodge, I soon realised This was going to be a Unique experience. The more we drove into the land, the more we became quiet.
After a while we entered the farm, where the brother of Mark Harvey is living. He runs the farm.
We drive, and drive, the farm seems endless. It’s huge.
On our left side we passed lake shiwa n’gandu. It’s raining Saison, so the water is high and the surroundings are green.
It makes an amazing view.
George is telling us about the Colonial buildings we are passing by. The butcher, the post Office, the villa where Mark’s brother is living...
The feeling i am getting is hard to discribe. It’s almost like we are not in Africa.
I remember myself saying. ‘Where are we? What is This place?’
That same moment, I pointed to our right side, ‘there’s a Zebra!’
It’s our first time we see zebra’s, So it is a big spectacle happening!
When we arrive in the lodge, the amazement just keeps going.
The lodge is perfect, the flowers are blossoming, the river is wild, the hot springs are wonderfull, and, we are the only ones here, because its wet Saison!
Mel prepare a delicious dinner with home grown products. we all ate together while Mark told us about the history of the lodge and the farm.
Back in our chalet, we fell asleep with the sound of the river.

We camped in the well kept campsite, enjoyed time in the hot springs. However it is not child friendly, eg the only equipment being a trampoline, had broken springs . The management and owner are not particularly welcoming or hospitable, which, having camped in several places was disappointing.
