Hounds does all the things right that you loved about the old drive in theaters of your youth without the things you hated about going to the drive in when we were younger. The bathrooms are plentiful and spotless and well attended. They do have a line for food but with 8 staffed order windows running at once, it moves quickly. The food is good and very reasonably priced compared to indoor theaters. Younger families should make sure your children get to experience this piece of American Pop Culture while they can. There are not many left in the US and NONE are as modern or well kept. We look forward to attending as a family every Summer.

Very nice place to watch a movie I like the fact that I feel safe without sitting inside a closed in movie theater right now with COVID and the Delta Variant.

Top notch drive-in with 3 screens larger than any in the US.
There is a large consession menu as well as snacks, funnel cakes and soft serve ice cream. The prices are very reasonable!

Do not patronize! The owner is rude, condescending, and I'd venture to say extremely prejudice (after my experience and reading other reviews). After hearing about the theater on the news during this virus, my husband and I decided it would be fun to show my kids the drive-in theater. We arrived at the theater at 5:45, fifteen minutes before the 6:00 ticket booth opening. We saw that the concession stand was open and decided to check out the prices. I walked up to the stand, stood 6 ft away from the window, and read the prices. I was approached (under 6 feet in distance) by what I later found out to be the owner Preston Brown wearing a gun and asking me what am I doing there. I explained that I was looking at the menu. He proceeded to become irate explaining that I couldn't be on the steps (even though NO one was there). This was strange to me because when the theater opens you are required to buy concessions from the stand. I asked why he was being so aggressive and he told me that I can get off of his property he doesn't want people like me there. I said I brought my kids to see a movie. He said "I don't care you explain it to them." I assure you this is the most racist, discriminatory experience I've ever had in my life. I am super surprised since the local TV stations have had him all over the news. Oh and by the way Preston my husband and I are both US Veterans Keeping America Great. What have you done?

It makes me happy that this place is open and hopefully doing really well. A lot of drive-ins around my area have been forced to close because the equipment to show digital film is so expensive. It houses not one, but two screens with double features! For just $15 per car, you can't beat that! Concessions include: Burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, funnel cakes, pickles, plus your typical movie theater concessions. The popcorn was really good! And the prices are not outstanding like at a normal theater. This makes for a unique experience and a fun time to be outside amongst nature with family and friends. Lawn chairs, blankets and pets (on leash) are welcome, but they do frown on bringing any outside foods/drinks. Why would you? I'd much rather support the little man and keep neat, old timey businesses like this open! I can't wait to go back!

We ended up here thinking this was the drive in in Shelby. This place is WAY WAY nicer!!! The bathrooms are super clean and plenty of them. The concession stand is clean and the staff is really nice. I did get aggravated with several cars that kept putting their lights on and NO one did anything about it. There was a lot if static and interference on the radio so that at times it was hard to hear the movie. Enforce the rules and clear up the radio reception and it will be AMAZING!!

So tonight I wanted to take my family to see Incredibles 2 at the local drive-in. I have a soon to be 3 year old who loves the incredibles. He talked about going to see HERO's all day. We also took our 4 month old. I would never take a young baby to an actual theater, but being it's in my truck, it should be fine, right? Once the movie started the Owner of this company knocked on the window and rudely confronted us, telling us we either had to watch the movie with the windows down (while its raining just FYI), watch it with no sound, or leave (and he doesn't give refunds). All because my Christmas light-size daytime running lights on the rear and front don't turn off while the vehicle is using battery only. I was completely shocked that this guy was serious, and being as unprofessional and rude as he was. We asked for a refund, but this guy was too money hungry to refund 15 dollars because of something I can't control on my vehicle. So the only option this guy gave us was to roll our windows down and soak my infant and toddler, watch the movie without sound or leave. Who in their right mind would say that to a family just trying to enjoy a movie night. I'm not mad about not getting refunded the 15 dollars. It isn't going to break me. I can assure you sir. What really makes me mad is a grown man had the nerve to act like that in front of children, and then thanked us for leaving. Please anyone in the Cleveland/Gaston co area DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!!! You can't treat ppl this way a stay in business. I am a no body and this post isn't going to bankrupt this guy but I want other families just like mine to avoid this place at all cost

I came out to North Carolina to visit relatives went to the movies with them we went to this drive-in theater. The movie on screen one was dark and hard to see everybody in our car had that problem. My aunt makes a comment about it on Facebook and the owner attacks her over Facebook trying to drag her name through the mud and treating her like she's being a bother in comments on her own status. Very unprofessional very unacceptable. Will not recommend to anyone.

Hound's has opened a second screen and added 22 new bathrooms. Their price has gone up to from $12 to $15 per car-load but that was probably a studio-driven decision rather than the ownership. The capacity of the complex is now 1200 cars with 800 on the original side and 400 on the new screen. We found the food reasonably priced and the wait was less than 10 minutes. They are a CASH ONLY facility but they do have an onsite ATM machine. Please be aware they are making it a priority to prohibit outside food being brought into the facility. Concessions are how they keep this place open and they need patrons to support their concessions to keep the facilities up and provide this piece of nostalgia for future generations. Before you complain about the outside food policy - keep in mind, this is a first class operation. There appears to be is over $15,000 worth or ceramic tile work in the new bathrooms alone. Not like the bad old days when you had to use a porta-john or pee in a trough in the men's room. Thanks Hound's for providing our family with a place to make summer memories. We look forward to visiting many times this season

Going to the drive-in is one of my favorite childhood memories. Just thinking about it, I can smell the hamburgers and taste the Coke and popcorn as I hear sounds from the tinny speaker hung on the car window.

I remember playing on the swings waiting for the sun to set and lying on the hood of the car when the feature starts.

I thought Hound's Drive-In would be a wonderful experience to give my grandkids; a connection of old memories with new.

In many ways, things haven't changed. Kids still play waiting for nightfall, and here the play area is much better than the rusty swings of my youth. Station wagons have been replaced with hatchbacks and SUVs. The movie's audio now plays through your car's AM radio.

My big complaint with Hound's is their concession stand. The hamburgers are fine but bland. The aroma of chili and onions that used to fill our car is missing. And if you like popcorn with your salt, they've got you covered. I prefer popcorn with a touch of salt--they don't sell that.

I still recommend everyone experience a drive-in movie at least once. Hound's is one of the few remaining. Get there early, at least an hour before dusk so you can get close to the center of a row close to the front. If you're in a large SUV you'll have to park in one of the rows in the back and that's not an optimal location.

Bring camp chairs and sit in front of your car or back in and tailgate. Either way, experience a wonderful era of America's past while you still can.
