What a fantastic walk! Beautiful rainforest following the water pipes all the way. Very steep in parts & quite slippery. Moderate fitness required as a minimum. Beautiful falls with a great swimming area. Couldn't get GPS lock on my drone, so max height limitations meant we couldn't get shots of the top. But fantastic! They said 45 mins each way, but more like an hour each way.

This is one spectacular national park. From the beach at Cedar Bay on the Coral Sea to the rugged, dense rainforest & cloud covered mountains & the beautiful lush green valleys, it is serene & stunning. About 40km south of Cooktown on Shiptons Flat Rd (Cooktown to Bloomfield Rd) between Rossville & Ayton. There are 2 walking tracks - the Home Rule track (17km return) which arrives at the northern end of Cedar Bay & the Gap Creek track - 12km (return) which comes in near the camping ground at the southern end of Cedar Bay beach, but they are both very difficult, rough & steep & only for the fit. Accommodation nearby at Home Rule Lodge at Rossville or at Ayton/Weary Bay (cabins, camping, caravans).

Every time I travel to this rainforest where it meets the blue blue ocean I am instilled with peace and tranquillity by the green glades and invigorated by the pacific ocean.

A 8 hour walk 15-17kms you do need to be fit to do this walk. The whole way is walking in thick beautiful rainforest crossing very gorgeous creek crossings, where you cross is no more then a foot deep. All these creeks are find to drink and swim in very good nice cool clean water, so need to carry to much water at this stage. The track is easy enough to find as it is mark with flagging the whole way. When start walking either from Cedar bay track starts from the far northern national park sign which is easy to find right on beach or from Home Rule National Park sign you will do a steep climb straight away which is good as you get this steep climb out of the way straight up.
Start walking from Home Rule 10minute walk from national park sign you cross the Wallaby creek 15 minutes on start a long steep climb for a good half hour 10 minutes on come to Slaty Creek from here is 1 hour walk to Granite Creek Crossing camp site. From here about 2 hours to the very top of mountain this climb is a easy one to do. The forest will open up here big granite rock where you can camp here as well but no water. 50 minute walk from here you come to a old tin mine where you will be in open rainforest again as the forest was cleared for mining. You can camp here as well. Tin was discovered in these hills in 1870. The track you are walking on is a old dronkey track that the tin miners used. From here is 3 hours down to Cedar Bay which is steep. At the bottom cross Ashall creek fill all your water up here. 7 min walk to beach.
Cedar Bay is a beautiful beach you will enjoy this walk I recommend walking the track in one go just leave early take your time and camp at Cedar Bay so this way more time is spend on this beautiful beach!
Gap Creek Track which you will see on some web sites is no longer open over grown very hard to find!!!
