I always try to find a better place than Boracay, that I can find, only in Panay.
The only place I know so far, that actually can compete with Boracay, is south Aklan and especially Phaidon Beach Resort!
Gigantes was a great experience with lots of beautiful Islands to discover, and it makes it a greater place, because it is not ruined by bars, restaurants and hotels and polutions. I am happy that they are keeping it a clean area.
We went there on a one day tour, and I was so surprised how beautiful the area is. It is well visited, especially in the weekends, and that is why we chose go there on a tuesday!
The tour includes all kinds of fees and a delicious lunch package!
It is a boat trip, and the first leg takes around an hour! I recommend you to bring water and maybe a little snack. Don´t forget bathing shorts etc.
We had some 5 Islands that we visited and my son and I were busy jumping into the water at the places we went to, while my mom took pictures of the surroundings!
It is a 3 and a half hours travel by car from Iloilo City! I recommend you to book a place to stay. We stayed at Treasure Cove which is a 10 min. drive with a Tuktuk!
Come visit Gigantes Islands before before it becomes Boracay!

Given the remoteness of the islands, it was very very crowded. It was Day of Valor, a school holiday, and Manila schools closed because of extreme heat. So there were loads of Manila people, easy to pick them out, but we only saw only 2 foreigners the whole day.
Nicewaters and islets, Cabugao Gamay being the best. We overnighted at Se San resort on Gianante island which was very local; not international standard at akll and beach very rocky. No cell signal at allreaches there.

I am taking the time to write a review because as I was planning on my trip, there was little if not no information I can find on the net.
Whenever I visit the Philippines, I always try to have some beach holiday. This time it is the Gigantes Islands. Me & my sisters traveled from Manila to Roxas City. I just concluded for myself that Roxas City is the most convenient airport to start our trip. This is specially if you don't want to waste your time. We flew Cebu Pacific. Careful guys, I booked 1 20kg baggage allowance, but we only brouht cabin trolleys. We were not allowed to check in 2 bags that equals to 20kg. Unlike last year, we could. We decided to have the 2 bags cellophaned together. Cost 200P. We got to check it in as 1 bag.
As you leave Roxas City airport you can find a queue of tricycles with a fix rate of 100P/pax, that can take you to the Bus Station or Van Station going to Carles. Carles is where the Island hopping boats start from. We opted for the van as this is quicker with less stops. I'm guessing it is a 12 Seater & the fare is 100P/pax. The van leaves when it is full. So, they don't really follow a time table. But there are enough vans waiting one after the other.
We were staying Solina Beach & Nature Resort. I love the resort! The place is very chill. Breakfast buffet is amazing with lots of choices on food for everyone. Dinner was also good. Portions are for sharing with 2 persons. Prices were reasonable.
The hotel booked our Island hopping tour. We went for the joiners, which cost us 999P including drinks & lunch. We were brought to the pier. The staff at the pier were well organized. The formalities were arranged by the hotel crew, we only had to wait at the waiting room until it was time to board the boat.
Tour was okay with 5 island stops? Touristy as it is. The level of adventure 7 out of 10. One time we had to walk for about 200 meters to the shore because it was low tide & the boat couldn't anchor nearer. Lunch was good, fulfilling the promised unli-scallops! The level of adventure/hike was not as taxing as El Nido islands. All in ll still worth seeing.
We spent 3 days in Carles, the took a van from the bus station to Iloilo City. There were no traffic, it only took us 2 hrs to get there.
Iloilo is great mixture of an urban new city, with a few old spanish homes. Lots of restaurants, malls, & cafes to hang out. Excellent infrustructure & lots of taxis!
Hope you get some tips from my review.

Went in Dec 2022. The pictures doesnt do justice to the beauty of the place. The pictures were taken using my phone. Enjoyed both island tour and land tour hosted by kuya Dondon Billones who was the PA, tour guide and photographer in one. Went to Pawikan Cave, Pulupandan Island, Tangke Lagoon, Cabugao Gamay, Bantigue Sandbar, Antonia Island, Little Boracay.
Sad that the LGU wasn't able to maintain cleanliness of Little Boracay all year round. Bring cash. It's hard to find a working ATM in Bancal. No ATM in the island, though they have Gcash cash in.
Took MNL-RXS-MNL flight. All good EXCEPT the van that will take advantage of you when they figured out you're not a local.

The tour in general was great, visited several spots including a sandbar, beach and lagoon (my favorite was Cabugao Gamay). Lunch was impressive with lots of scallops, prawn, and the crabs were perfect! The boat we got was okay and the crew were friendly. For the price we paid, it was definitely worth it.

Spectacular Views !
Boat organizers, late in taking off to the islands because we have to wait for other passengers who are still having breakfast, agreed meeting time at 0800, left the port at 0835 .
Lunch included, overcooked seafoods!

How to go in boracay from Carles, Iloilo?
Rédigé le 1 avril 2019
From Carles, take a ride (jeepney or tricycle) going to Balasan bus terminal, take Ceres bus or van going to Roxas City. From Roxas City, take a van going to Kalibo and ask the driver to drop you off at the Ceres bus terminal. Take the Caticlan trip and in an hour and a half you willbe in Caticlan jetty port on your way to Boracay. It may cost you less than 500 pesos from Carles to Caticlan.

Good Day!
Can anyone suggest an itinerary sample for a DIY tour in Gigantes Island please? Tight couple budget backpacker here. Thank you.

Hi anyone, I read that there's only 1 passenger boat trip to and from the island...is this true? And what time? our plane won't arrive until 10.30am, so I bet we will miss this boat to the island...but I don't want to waste that one day/night in estancia...is there another way/boat to get us to the island late? is that even possible? are there boats to privately hire? how much you think? many thanks!!!
Rédigé le 12 juin 2016
Yes it is true for the locals and people living in the island. As tourist, I suggest you rent a boat that will bring you to different islands in Gigantes group of islands. We got a package last April for as high as Php 3,500/person for 3 nights and 2 days tour. It will take care of your food, and boat rides going to different islands. You may get in touch with Joel Decano, owner and contact person for Gigantes Hideaway Tourist Inn: 0918 468 5006. Just be patient in contacting him because the island has poor signal and he can only be contacted when is in the mainland Estancia. However, if you arrive if the wharf/port, there is tourism officer who can accommodate your queries and can give you option for different packages. From what airport are coming from? If you are from Roxas City airport, that is 2 hours away and if you are from Iloilo City that is 3-4 hours away to Estancia.

what are the resorts in the island and what part northside or southside?
and if you have a website a number to contact the resort thanks

Sorry for late reply, are you still interested in visiting Gigantes? Anyway, if you wish to push through, in Gigantes Norte, my friends stayed in Hideaway Tourist Inn and a package rate approx US$42.00 included boat transfer, accommodation, island hopping and meals. You may contact Joel Decano at 09184685006. I stayed in Roxas City and was able to join their island hopping tour in Gigantes. Enjoy your trip!

Hi I wanted to check on your comment about the first boat trip leaves at 5:30 am is that from estancia port to gigantes or is that for your island hopping tour? Would you mind giving details of your trip from estancia to gigantes? So far I've read that there is only one boat/ferry that goes from estancia to the gigantes island (north and south). I was wondering if there are any private boat options. Thanks.
