Fantastic stay

Just returned from a fabulous 2 night stay absolutely fantastic break visited the spa on arrival ,very relaxing ate in the Dobson restaurant food was amazing and staff very attentive ,Friday we spent the day in the spa booked treatments the ladies were very knowledgeable ate in the on-site pub second night chef came and spoke to us about special again food and service amazing
Definitely returning in the new year

Some good, some bad.

Stayed here for 2 nights, the room was tired and the hotel looks shabby and is in desperate need for updating. Spa was clean and the golf course for the time of year was in great condition.

Had lunch in the linden tree pub which needs updating but the service from Jess was excellent. She was personable, informative and charming. Gave us some tips and ideas for stopping on our journey home. Had fish finger sandwiches which were good. I asked for real ale which they didn’t have but Jess said she was looking into getting some. She also served our dinner in the Dobson restaurant the following night, remembered our plans and couldn’t do enough for us.

Julia on reception was also very helpful.

Breakfast was fine, the staff were busy but we did not wait. The food was hot and tasty. However the manager, I think I heard him introduce himself as ‘Mike’ really needs to learn some customer service and people skills. Watching how busy his staff are and not helping them really is embarrassing to watch. Explaining loudly how he couldn’t be bothered and how tired he was really is off putting and made us feel very uncomfortable. The staff were excellent, he let it down. His language was also appalling.

Thanks to the staff who made us feel welcome.

Fantastic weekend break cannot wait to return

Stayed with my wife on Saturday night following getting married.
Room was immaculate, service in all areas was amazing. Glad to see the linden tree pub reopened for meals. Had a 3 course meal on the evening in the linden tree. Food was outstanding. Chef was lovely checking all was fine with the meal. Darren who served us drinks in the bar was a chatty friendly guy who made us feel welcome.
Special thanks to Lynsey who was pulled out all the stops for this weekend break and gave us 11/10 service at breakfast.
We both cannot wait to return

I enjoyed playing what was a very interesting course. There was a lot of variety with regards the holes...a mixture of short & longer holes which could be played a number of ways. The condition of the course was excellent & the practice facilities were also very impressive, especially the short game area. We were very well looked after by the hotel staff. All in all it was a very enjoyable stay...would definitely do it again.

Tuesday 24 August 2021, My husband and I drove to the McDonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club & Spa for our ‘Twilight Spa’ day.

We arrived at 2.30 pm and were greeted by the Spa Receptionist Courtney, who showed us to the spa and explained the details of our day to us, and she gave us complementary bath robes, slippers and lovely soft white fluffy towels for us to use throughout our day at the spa.

This spa is housed in lovely grounds attached to a mellow soft stone Georgian manor house surrounded by beautiful countryside and lush green flower be-decked fields.

The McDonald Linden Hall Golf & Country Club & Spa Facilities included an indoor pool, Hydrotherapy Spa bath (Out of Order Today), Sauna, Steam Room, poolside loungers, Treatment rooms, Serenity Relaxation Room, Fitness Studio and Nail Studio.

My husband and I went into the well appointed changing rooms with lockers to keep our clothes and toiletries in and changed into our swimming gear. We came out into the indoor heated swimming pool area; the décor was light and spacious with soft mellow lighting and a lovely large pool with steps leading down into the warm water.

My husband and I then went swimming in this lovely pool, and we took photos of ourselves and me swimming in the pool. After doing a few limbering up exercises I managed to do 41 lengths before my muscles decided enough was enough, not bad for not having been in a swimming pool since my birthday back in June. My husband even managed 36 lengths and then did some leisurely swimming and played in the pool like a big kid.

My husband and I then headed for the lovely hot sauna, to ease our tired muscles. We wallowed in here for twenty minutes. We had the whole spa pool to ourselves which was lovely. Afterwards we rested on one of the loungers for an hour. We both then had a quick shower before we were called in for our treatments by Courtney and Rebecca our Spa Therapists at 5.30 pm.

My husband had a back, neck and shoulder massage with ESPA positivity body oil. The massage eased his neck, back and shoulders and left my husband feeling relaxed and chilled. My husband said that Rebecca was very gentle with him. My husband said the massage was lovely although he said he did have one or two knots in his shoulder and lower back muscles, which Rebecca worked on until they eased.

Courtney took me to a soft low lighted room with soft peaceful music and the scents of the oils in the air were wonderful. Courtney did me a back, neck and shoulder massage with ESPA restorative body oil. The massage was amazing and eased my neck, back and shoulders and left me feeling totally relaxed and chilled.

Courtney was very gentle with me. The massage was wonderful although I did have one or two nasty knot areas in my neck and shoulder muscles, which Courtney worked on until they eased. At the end of our time we felt truly pampered and very well cared for by ‘The Angels of Healing’, and very spoilt and very much more our real selves.

My husband and I then went into the darkened Serenity Relaxation Room, where we rested on the lovely soft chairs and listened to the lovely meditative music playing softly in the background for an hour.

Afterwards, we both then had a quick shower before we changed back into our street clothes and then went for our two course evening meal, which was included in our ‘Twilight Spa’ day.

The McDonald Linden Hall Restaurant is very baronial and Scottish in design with deep red walls and dark wood tables and tartan chairs. There are heavy velvet drapes at the windows and it has a warm and cosy feel. The tables were set with lovely shiny cutlery, white napkins and there were fresh flowers on all the tables, and a candle burning in a petal shaped candle holder.

The waiting staff were very professional in everything they did for us. The food at this restaurant is wonderful and beautifully presented; in fact they are artistic creations in themselves.

We had booked a table here at 8.00pm, and we were served to a wonderful meal. My husband for his starter had the ham hock terrene served with breaded quail eggs and toasted sour dough bread, which my husband said was delicious. I did not bother with a starter as I decided to have a dessert instead.

For our main course my husband and I had sirloin steak with a Béarnaise sauce which came served with beef tomato, flat mushroom, peas and chunky chips. The steak just melted in the mouth and was really delicious. We washed all this lovely food down with a nice bottle of red Merlot wine.

My husabnd did not bother with a dessert. I had the trio of ice creams (vanilla, raspberry ripple and caramel) served with a white chocolate triangle, which was nice and lovely and light and a perfect finish to my meal. We did not bother with coffees afterwards.

We then drove back to ‘The Old Rectory’, well fed and content.

If you are looking for a relaxing Spa Day, then this is the place to visit.

Not good!!

Place is old, dated and too expensive for what it is - very short staffed and it showed especially in the public areas - loos disgusting. Worse is we voiced our concerns to Management one week ago and have heard nothing back - would never stay at another McDonalds hotel because of that.

Extremely disappointed. Not luxurious, needs updating. Better off staying at Premier Inn Queen Elizabeth Country Park

Beautiful grounds. Staff are friendly but very understaffed. Bathrooms are appalling, see pictures. When a complaint was made a out rooms (both rooms had mouldy bathrooms) we were advised that is a common complaint!
Very tired premises overall. Terrible value. It was the fact this is self branded as luxurious but lacked it completely. No conditioner in rooms and products locked to walls, which if it was an environmental policy could be understandable but provide conditioner. One room the window was propped open with a towel and looked as though it call fall out at anytime. There was fruit in the rooms that looked as though it had been bought cheap at a discount supermarket when price reduced as it was on the turn. Compared to DoubleTree Harrogate this is a shocker of a premises. Just really disappointed as we wanted luxury and didn't come close but they charged more than other 4 star hotels (and some 5 star) but are not close. The Premier Inn at Queen Elizabeth Park Ashington is cleaner, nicer, and has beautiful grounds without the pretense of being luxury when it simply is not.

Great weekend break

Had a great weekend stay with a couple of mates . Decided to make the most of golf season and chose a great place . Staff were welcoming , hotel was warm and had lots of character and the course was one of the best I’ve played . Will be back next year !

Not what I expected

After a 4 hour drive, and not having had a holiday for over 12 months( for obvious reasons) I was really looking forward to our stay. I’ll keep it as brief as possible. The downstairs and reception is great but that’s it as soon as you get in the lift it smells and is in a state of disrepair. We got to our room which was tiny and this was for two of us plus a dog. The window was sealed shut and couldn’t be opened the radiator was on and the room was unbearable and we couldn’t leave the dog in there. We asked to be moved and was told the only room we had left was above the kitchen and had the horrific noise coming from the air conditioner unit. We were told there was no other alternative as they were now fully booked, the website however advertised that there was in fact rooms still available. If I was to say that the overall cost for this two day stay was £564 you will start to realise my expectations. The second room we were offered also had dead flies in it and we were advised that they don’t really offer this room because of its location to the kitchen. I could go on but you get the idea

Charity Golf Day

I have been coming to this beautiful hotel for well over 20 years now and each visit has been as good as all of the previous visits.

I have just had my annual charity golf day here for the second year in a row and cannot praise the staff enough.

Jeff Hodgson has a wonderful team here from reception to the spa to the golf shop.

I had quite a few rooms booked on the back of my golf day again and have had some amazing feedback from those that played in my golf day and stayed over.

On arrival the reception staff are always very friendly, courteous and extremely professional with nothing ever being too much trouble.

The Bigge Room was set up beautifully for my golf day and again have had some fabulous feedback - with special mention to Anthony who ensured everything was just right and made an amazing contribution the night before and on the day itself - so thank you again for that.

The breakfast offers a wide and varied choice and no matter what you choose you will not be disappointed.

We all opted for the full english and there was a lovely vegan option for one in my group which was very well received.

The food was hot when it arrived and very well presented.

The service is always fantastic as is the quality of the food.

There is a pub in the grounds and again the service in there is always great.

Richard in the professional shop went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure my golf day went without a hitch - with preparation beginning the night before and an early start on the day itself to ensure everything was just right - and for the second year in a row - it was exactly that.

The course was in great condition with a lot of positive feedback from everyone that played in my golf day.

The hotel just oozes charm and character and may not be the most modern hotel you will visit but it more than makes up for that with the welcome you receive and the service throughout your stay which is nothing short of first class.

It is very well priced and offers excellent value for money.

If you are looking for ultra modern this is not the place for you - but if you are looking for charm and character combined with exceptional customer service and great food then this is the place for you.

It is dog friendly and there are plenty of lovely walks in the extensive grounds.

So Jeff Hodgson the GM should be very proud of the team he has here as each and every individual go above and beyond to ensure your stay here is an enjoyable one.

So well done again and thank you for an amazing golf day experience.
