If you are in town for Cedar Point and have kids or teens with you, keep going. If you are looking for a subdued “hands-off” sense of local history, you’re at the right place. This old home has lots of artifacts from various periods of Sandusky’s history. It has a lot of rooms and is stuffed full of mementos. However, it’s kind of stodgy and appeals primarily to an older crowd. The Maritime Museum and Merry Go Round Museum are more interactive and engaging, although older folks or those with an intense focus on local minutae might enjoy spending an hour or two on a rainy day.

Tour lasts an hour and is full of tons of information. Information about his life, his family, his work ethic, and his many ideas and inventions. House contains original items used by Edison and his family. The house is still owned by the family and you are provided with information that only a family owned museum can provide. RECOMMEND

This was a last minute add-on for our weekend stay in Sandusky. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, essentially we had a one hour personal guided tour through the 4 story Limestone Mansion! There is nice variety there, with a lot of period pieces of local significance from the 19th and 20th centuries - Artifacts from the Follett family and other local residents of their time, Sandusky area memorabilia (including Cedar Point), WWI and WWII exhibits, Civil War section including information on the nearby Prison Camp on Johnson's Island. On a warm day they will let you walk up onto the roof to enjoy the Lake Erie view (too cold on April 1st). The kids enjoyed the "Widow's Walk" spiral staircase! But above all, can't say enough about our guide, she was simply a delight and very kind and understanding of our young children! For a free tour, what a find! Highly recommend the visit, and a donation to support this fine little gem of a museum.

This beautiful old mansion, home to a state representative who was very involved with Abolition of Slavery, is full of period rooms replete with Sandusky area history. It is a more traditional Victorian museum, not a kid-friendly, interactive, modern display museum. One large upstairs room is dedicated to artifacts and history of the Johnson's Island Confederate POW Camp off the shore of Sandusky. Sandusky businesses and manufacturing are the subject of many exhibits. In good weather you may be allowed to climb through the scuttle and view the whole city of Sandusky and Cedar Point from the widow's walk.

This house is well maintained and a short walk from the Sandusky Library. Docents were very knowledgable. Don't miss the upstairs with special exhibits.

We stopped in on a rainy day that happened to be International Museum Day. However, any day is free admission to the house. They had a craft area where our granddaughter made a carnation, a plane and had her picture taken in an old time outfit and the picture was in sepia!!! The clothes that were on exhibit were beautiful! The staff was helpful and kind and it is interesting to note the this museum is a branch of the Sandusky Library.

Came here for International Museum Day. Staff is very friendly, and the museum is very clean. Very beautiful statues and women's attire. It was an interesting tour. There are only stairs to get between floors so it's probably not best for those in wheelchairs or don't climb stairs too easily. Bring your camera. They had crafts which made it fun for the kids.

This mansion turned museum has an amazing areay of historical artifacts. Not really much of a theme to it all, just a hodgepodge of cool stuff. If you have kids or are looking for a more hands on and accessible experience, try the maritime museum or the merry go round museum. Non historians may be jaded but it is worth the trip for many.

The house itself was very cool to see. There were several rooms set up from the time period, and those were neat to see. That's what I was expecting from the whole house, but it was only a couple rooms. Otherwise, most rooms felt like walking through an antique shop, with a hodgepodge of stuff from different eras. It was good for a free activity while walking around downtown sandusky.
