Great place, not the easiest to get good seats in, but worth the try. Knowledgeable staff, happy to explain what's in each . Nice strong drinks, but be careful, they will catch up with you.

This is in the lower level of the Penn Hotel. The people were super nice. The place had a cool old feeling to it. A nice spot.

My wife and I stopped by after reading the reviews.
We were planning to sit, relax and try a few different drinks but we each stopped after having one.
Both of our drinks were ok, but average.
Maybe this was just an off day, but the two cocktails we tried were not worth more than 3 stars.

The Speakeasy is really living up to its history, even down to the barrier to entry. We returned to our stay at the Omni and thought a nightcap at Speakeasy would be the absolutely perfect end to a perfect first visit to Pittsburgh. Before we even got to the red velvet rope, a gentleman asked "May I help you" in the tone of voice one uses when they find someone sitting on their parked car. We were dressed nicely, and clearly we were not lost. I said that we were interested in a drink. He seemed deeply put upon and said he'd "have to make a space" for us. Luckily he gave us just enough time to realize that this level of elitist posturing was something we would never be interested in, and we told him not to bother. It couldn't ruin a wonderful night, but it did put a mark on our experience at the Omni. I get putting on a bit of a show to make a space feel exclusive. I even understand it on the branding level of a speakeasy being purposely guarded. But this didn't feel like either of those things. This felt like high school. And no one likes that feeling. I would skip it. Go somewhere you're wanted.

Honestly, the place was ok way better bars in town than this but what made it bad and the reason we will never go back was our waitress. She was rude and ridiculous. The drinks were sub par too.
Don’t bother going, there are way better places to go than here. Not worth the hype at all.

Hidden gem! Located in the Omni hotel. Great place to sit, relax, and talk. Wait staff is friendly. Definitely reminds you of an old time speakeasy. They give you complementary candies mixed nuts which were great! We enjoyed the old time music as well.

After moving to Pittsburgh last year my husband and I were excited to find a comfortable bar with good cocktails. This bar has everything we were looking for on paper. We arrived about 10 min after it opened on a Friday evening to a dark yet cozy feeling atmosphere. It took longer than expected to be served even though servers were scurrying around from the bar to the back of the space. Apparently the bar was still being set up which is distracting and noisy given the small-ish size of the room. The drink menu had the standard fare but featured prohibition style drinks. Makes sense. I enjoy a good vodka Collins so was happy to see a variation on their menu. My husband ordered a double rosemary gimlet. How can you mess up these cocktails? Let me count the ways...my Collins had about 3 ice cubes in it, tasted like poorly brewed flat root beer and had 2 potato chips floating on top. WTF? My husbands gimlet wasn’t much better with a burnt rosemary sprig stuffed on the side of the drink and very little gin flavor. The burnt rosemary sprig was very off putting. Neither of us finished our drinks which is a first. We will usually give a place 3 try’s before rendering an opinion but not this one. It’s a hard no.

Speakeasy is under the lobby of the William Penn Hotel, down a half flight of wide stairs, It had been a storage space, and care was taken to bring it back to its former glory as a Prohibition getaway. It is rich and dark inside, with the bar running the length of one of the shorter walls. Plenty of plush seating and a tin roof really add to the ambiance. The very best thing about Speakeasy is Dawn, the bartender. She is amazing! We were staying at the hotel and went to Speakeasy for drinks. Dawn immediately made us feel welcome and began serving up great drinks (and nonalcoholic beer!). We had dinner reservations outside the hotel, but we were having such a great time that we cancelled the reservations and stayed at Speakeasy. Dawn ordered us a charcuterie and we just continued having fun. Speakeasy was one of the highlights of our trip to Pittsburgh. Dawn made us feel like regulars, and if we lived in Pittsburgh, we WOULD be regulars!

Attempted to gain access, placed our name and party number (4 people) on the waiting list. Waited 35 mins while others were called. Had the doorman verify once with me about 15 mins into the wait and he said "party of 2?". I had to correct him and remind him it was a party of 4. Another 20 mins passed, others were still called while we waited. He then looked at me and said, "I called your name and no one answered so I moved on." Problem was that I was standing right there watching him call others and never saying our name. When I attempted to clarify he got snarky stating he called our name. At this point we were rather frustrated as last call was in 20 mins and we had already been passed over several times over the past 35 mins. Needless to say our fellow guests decided to no longer wait as it was apparent we would not be getting in. The hours posted here say until 1:30, but they clearly call last call at midnight. So no true review of the actual lounge as we never gained access. I can live with waiting but to have the doorman state he called when he clearly did not and then make a comment that "he doesn't play favorites or take bribes and was offended at the notion" when no one even said anything about favorites or bribes leads me to believe this type of event has happened with him on the past for him to turn so quickly defensive.

We had some time to kill before a show and wanted to have a cocktail. Speakeasy was a few minutes away from the restaurant where we had dinner. Located downstairs in the beautiful William Penn Hotel. Intimate space. Had a great Sazerac at the bar and my sister-in-law had a Pinot grigio which was a very generous on the pour.
