Very nice walk along the Stromsay coast. The cat of Kirbister is one of the highlights of this island and it did not disappoint! Simply Beautiful

This is a coastal walk with breath taking views of natural rock formations. There is parking at the north of Burgh Hill with a short walk towards the coast. Then turn right and follow the cliff top walk. Buffalo can often be seen along this walk too but I didn't see them on this day.
Bluther's Geo is the name applied to a small creek situated about a 176 yards north from Nebbi Geo. Between theses two Geos there is a large face of flat rocks slanting seawards known as the Malme and is a natural pool.
Walking on you reach the Vat of Kirbuster which is a gloup or blow hole whose entrance is spanned by a spectacular rock arch. It really is quite impressive.
For the brave (I don't have a good head for heights) I believe that continuing with the walk will take you to a sea stack known as Tam's Castle and further on there are the remains of an Iron Age Fort

Amazing views and well worth the walk. The coastal scenery around Stronsay is beautiful and it is well worth getting off the beaten track to explore

I was able to see the Vat of Kirbister whilst on a visit to Stronsay. The rock formation of the Vat of Kirbister was formed when the roof of a large sea cave collapsed and what was left was an 66 foot high arch which is a spectacular sight, however the arch seems to be eroding quite quickly and I wonder how many storms it could survive in the future.

It is located in the south east of the island and once in the area the Vat is well signposted and is accessible by footpath from the road. It is about 5 miles from Whitehall and a pleasant cycle ride to the sight but I was lucky enough to be driven there so it was a short walk along the footpath to the formation. Stronsay is full of surprises and the Vat of Kirbister is one of them and a must see whilst on the island.

Enjoyable walk along the coast. Ground could be a little soft so suggest good boots or wellies. Lots of sea birds. Easy parking and it is signposted

Recomendable visita.

The weather wasn't great the day we visited but we didn't have much choice so set off. Parking is by the side of the road and then follow a made path down to the cliffs. Take a right turn and follow the cliff path - at times quite narrow, over a couple of wooden bridges to the Vat which isn't visible until you're nearly there. Great location and arch. From here you can continue on to other coastal features and round the headland - we didn't as very muddy.

Can birdwatch as well along the way.

When you find the car park to the south of the island this is a worthwhile walk with some impressive views and wildlife. You can extend the walk round the headland but this is not particularly well signposted. It was good weather and we cut across the heather to take a shortcut. We were glad we did the extra walk as we found the remains of a whale skeleton on the beach. If you want a short walk it would be best to turn back after seeing the Vat. Go as far as the second viewpoint though.

This is a lovely walk along the clifftops. Plenty of birdlife. Quiet and peaceful. If you have time and energy walk on to the Ness.
