Had always been disappointed with Menai Bridge until we found how to get to the walk to Church Island from the top road from the bus stop before the roundabout. (Currently the bus from Bangor uses the Brittania Bridge rather than the Menai Bridge.) Went down to the island and a pleasant walk around it, stopping in the Church. Others seemed to be ignoring the reverence of the simple structure. There are some information boards about the island but there could be more made of it, with a pleasant view from the top of the mound. Continued the walk along the promenade under the suspension bridge alongside of the strait to the garden and bowling green.

Relatively easy to get to, just a short walk from the car park. It is pay and display, but it's £2 for 4 hours and you really don't need that long. We were lucky to see the church open, we were told that it's not always open, but it's still worth a visit nonetheless. It is quite a steep walk down the the path to get to the island, so I maybe wouldn't reccomend this trip if you're a wheelchair user or struggle with mobility issues. There isn't really anything to do when you get there, apart from enjoy the views and the church itself, but we really enjoyed it.
Overall, it's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

This was a lovely experience. Drive past the Waitrose on the left hand side and there is a very reasonably priced car park. It’s a short walk to the church which grounds offer superb views of both bridges and the surrounding beautiful landscape. It was a very thought provoking experience looking at the gravestones, many of which were for the war dead. Afterwards you can take a walk around the Belgium promenade with more stunning views. Only took an hour or so, definitely worth a visit.

worth the visit if your there - was wet when we went but well worth the visit- park at pub nr the bridge and walk along the river path to the island.

Many of the war graves here have been adorned with small knitted poppies and a short but moving laminated record of where and how the person died. I thought this was a very thought provoking and sensitive way of both honouring their memory and reminding us of the terrible sacrifices they made. It really underline how much every corner of the country was affected by these 20th century conflicts.
There are fabulous views across the straits from here.
The church is interesting but was unfortunately locked at the time of my visit.

Park in centre of Menai and take the short walk to the strait then just follow the path along by the strait heading for Menai bridge .you can't go wrong it's a lovely walk and there are splendid views of the bridge which you walk under and join the Belgian promenade built by, yes, Belgian refugees given asylum during first world war. They were so grateful to the people of Menai Bridge. Notice the churning water this is a dangerous stretch of the menai strait.There's even a stone circle to look at. Continue as the island comes into view and then cross the causeway and through gate into church yard . You now get a good view of the Brittania bridge. The church is tiny unfortunately was not open when we visited. there's a war memorial on the island to commemorate the dead of two world wars. This is the highest point and offers wonderful views of both bridges and the mainland.

The pathway down to the Church is not obvious until you stumble across the car park at the top of the path. It is then not far down the path to the walkway across to the island.
This old, yet small, church, is full of character. The island has been a special burial place for many years.
From the island, you get a good view of the suspension bridge.

Simply enigmatic! Worth the short walk from the public car park down the hill through the woods to the pretty Church Island nestled in the Swellies between the the old and new Menai Bridges. Extend your walk under the original Menai Bridge into the Town.

Hi i would love to visit with my mother but she is getting on in years and replies in walking sticks or wheel chair, is there anywhere near by i could park that doesn't involve steps if so does anyone have address post code thanks

Hi, you can park in Waitrose car park for I think two hours, LL59 5AE. Follow the beach road down to water (best use wheelchair)

Would love to get married here. Are weddings still performed? My cousin had both her children baptised at St. Tysilio's and my aunt is buried on the island. If anyone knows the answers please let me know.

I plan to visit Anglesey for a week next week. I wondered where you parked when you visited this Island? I cant seem to find anywhere close by.

There is a car park, there is a waitrose car park - do not park there. Just a little further along - a matter of yards, there is a car park it is not free but not expensive. Then you are at the top of the path leading down to the Church. Enjoy your stay on Anglesey and I hope the weather is kind.

Sorry, I only just found this question. The tree isn't a yew tree at all! There are photographs of it as a small sapling the early 1900s. I believe it's either a Monterey Cypress or a Monterey Pine & is only around 110 years old.
