I did the trail from Warburton to Milgrove and slightly beyond. Very easy flat trail. Very pleasant for an easy walk especially when the weather is nice. Some lovely trees along the way. Past Milgrove, it was more open areas, and less shady.

Recently I walked along this part of the way in Mount Evelyn ... it is exceptionally beautiful with highlights and information boards along the way. The trail is a 40 km recreation trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The trail follows the path of the historical railway line through the stunning Yarra Valley starting behind Lilydale Railway Station and finishing in the Warburton township.
You can access it at any point and enjoy what it has to offer...it will take you past many remnants of former station platforms. The Rail Trail's gentle gradients make it ideal for all levels of fitness including families.

Well worth it, I did this ride starting in Lilydale to Warburton. From warburton I added the Aqueduct trail which runs along the mountain just above Warburton, total 90ks. Amazing scenery, I’d class this as an easy ride, the only step part is the climb to the Aqueduct section. Highly recommend to future cyclists...

About 40km gravel ride Lilydale to Warburton. Fairly flat apart from a bit of a climb to Mt Evelyn. A few cafes and easy access to local shops. Lots of water fountains.

I live in Mt Evelyn and have many activities from Lilydale through to Warburton (specially Launching Place) so would be on this trail at least once a week at some point, and I don't walk that much, being due for a second hip replacement! As an ex train line it is easily graded. The graceful curves around Mt Evelyn and the general beauty as you head towards Warburton makes this a winner.

Friends of the trail and local council are doing a great job with weed eradication and replanting along the track. The walk from Lilydale to Mt. Evelyn is a lovely walk with a real feel of "in the bush" about it.

We have done hhis track many times on foot some of the way and ridden on bikes all of the way, but mainly we just ride sections. The track being the old railway line is a slow gradient. It is accessible from many points along it with designated places for cars. Why we do sections is the trail is about 40 km so we would normally on ride 20 km say from Work yallock to Warburton , have s coffee and breakfast anc then ride back. There are various sections that on s bike you seem to pedal uphill alo but walking you do not notice. There are many places on and off the trail to stop and buy z drink etc. the trail is well maintained with good phone coverage all the way. There are also safety markets along the way so if in trouble you can tell where you are. A beautiful part of the world.

Seville was our ideal location to gear up our transport, namely 2 horses and a bicycle. The trail offers stunning countryside and is basically very flat, so ideal for walking and riding your bike or horse. The surface of the trail is based on Lilydale topping a light coloured gravel based surface. You will pass the remains of a number of old railway platforms and of course many stunning rural properties running horses and cattle in it. An ideal pit stop even if with horses or dogs is the Carriage Café Seville, only a 5 minute walk from the main car park.
I was impressed how all the various users from walkers to horse riders applied genuine care and caution.
Overall a great experience for 30 minutes to as long as you feel and manage on the trail.
Compliments to the crew maintaining the trail....really well signed, plenty of benches and pic nic tables and in top condition.

Partly tarmac, partly gravel even at its steepest is only a gentle incline. This is the perfect trail to buzz along with your electric bike or even paddle. Lots of cafes along the trip as well as pubs and shops. Lots of the major road crossings have pedestrian lights to help you cross.

What is the walking distance between lily dale station and the next town? Can we catch a bus back from another town? I’m wanting to take my client who is deaf and blind who loves walking.

I'm wanting to ride the trail starting at Wandin or Seville and leave my car overnight there (staying the night in Warby) and then return the next day. Is there anywhere safe to park, even in Mount Evelyn?
Rédigé le 18 octobre 2017
I usually park near the police station. Talk to the police for guidance, and I am good to go. Our bush walking club even park for a few days on long walks. Unless you have a nice glaring flashy car! Enjoy our beautiful trails!

Hello, I am going to do this trail in the upcoming long weekend and am wondering, because I've never been or even seen it, how hard would it be to pull a trailer with my dog in it plus camping gear? I am of moderate fitness, I ride around 20ks a day to work and back and on the weekends I ride too but I've never actually ridden with a trailer but it may be my only option as I can't get anyone to look after my dog so I can go away for the weekend! Thanks everyone in advance.

Track is wide so towing a bike trailer shoud be fine.
There are some steeper hills at the lilydale end that yu may have to push a bike with trailer.

We want to ride one way, from Warburton to Lilydale. Is there a way to get riders and bikes back to Warburton rather than have to do a car shuffle before and after?
Rédigé le 9 mars 2015
You can try Yarra Valley Cycles in Lilydale or Cog Bike Cafe in Warburton. They maybe able to advise. I hope this helps.
