Thank you Holgate Brewhouse for looking after our Probus group for our Christmas in July lunch. Everyone enjoyed it very much. The food was excellent & very hospitable service.

We had the couples package which was very disappointing. The room was very basic with minimal furniture and no door on the bathroom. The room was so cold we had to ask for another heater. Food and beer was good, but the bar was also cold with people in jackets and beanies. Would not recommend especially in winter.

A lovely meal of pork Belly & seafood chowder was delicious and sitting by the fire was warm and cosy. The beers were good too tried some different ones which were nice. The staff were absolutely delightful & so helpful & thoughtful.

We had a 5-star experience with the Ultimate Couple Package at Holgate.
FOOD - Dinner was delicious. Entree (duo of dips), choice of mains, choice of desserts each. The scotch fillet was cooked to perfection. I don't eat pork, so the kitchen was kind enough to swap the veggies wrapped in pancetta with chips and salad for my steak. 18 hour cooked beef cheeks, so tender and tasty! With each meal, generous portions cooked with care.
BEER - Tasting paddle each, with 8 beers to sample. The ESB was particularly good.
SERVICE - Could not fault it. Warm smiles, friendly and prompt service from the moment we checked in and throughout our dining experience. Thank you.
ACCOMODATION - Ok, so the venue is 140 years old, so taking that into account we were really happy with our room. We stayed in Room 3. High ceilings, electric wall heater (the weather was chilly outside, but we were very warm in our room), spacious with basic furnishings, and with private bathroom attached to the room. The bathroom was large, shower in the bathtub. Plenty of water pressure and lovely water temp.
There were some areas with cracked paint on the walls and the windows were a bit rickety - when the wind blew hard enough, you could hear it whistle through the cracks around the window and the window rattled. It really made the contrast between the cold Woodend winter weather and the warmth of the room more noticeable.
CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST - This was nice and basic. I'm not going to comment too much about other people's complaints, but for those that have requested a hot breakfast option - You can't expect a venue to put a team of kitchen staff together for a handful of guests. That would be one way to put yourself out of business. Go for a walk and buy something nearby.
OVERALL VALUE: Really excellent. I totally recommend the Ultimate Couple Package for a short getaway. It's great value for the price, all considered. Just don't go expecting Crown Towers, be realistic with what a 140 year old building looks like, and you won't be disappointed.
Also, make sure you spend some cash in the town. Support the lovely local businesses.

Booked the brewery tour for a Saturday afternoon. Reasonably priced ($25 each and ticket includes a 6 or 4 pack of beer to take home). Tour starts and finishes in the taphouse includes a quick presentation showing the history of the brewery and then a walk through the various rooms. Our guide, James was knowledgeable and brought the process to life. Pleasant way to spend half an our on a road trip with a drink or meals in the pub

Love the internal design, atmosphere, friendly staff and great food in the taphouse. Great for a lazy Sunday lunch with the family.

I hadn't been here in a few years. Went with a friend and had a few beers and shared a calamari.
Food was good, beers were good. Overall a good experience.

Arrived for an early dinner at 6pm on a Monday. It was very busy and there was a long wait to order at the bar due to there only being a couple of staff working (taking orders, making drinks, seating people etc.). When we ordered we were told there were no onion rings left - at 6pm on a Monday. This indicates poor planning in the kitchen and a lack of willingness to meet what customers' want. Our food didn't take too long to arrive, but my calamari salad was quite a small serve - thankfully we ordered a side of fries. My partner's steak was overcooked. I had dined here previously, but this meal didn't meet the same standard. We are not going to rush back any time soon.

Manager useless
Owner seems like she hates general public, and if there is anything that doesn't go her way she must smite it.
Staff were lovely and IN TOTAL FEAR OF OWNER.
Don't give them your business, there are many other amazing places and beers on offer.

We had lunch with our family in the function room. Adult meals were ok but kids meals were very disappointing. Suitable for preschoolers only.
