so, i've been going there for camp for like.. 3 years, and its pretty cool. if you have kids. send them to the camps there. and its also great for tours, i went on tour there a few hundred times and its awesome, i always learn something new. anyways, if your looking for something entertaining, traveler's rest is great. Also, all the people that work there are the sweetest. they all know so much about the history of the house. 10/10 would 100% reccomend

Amazing house with incredible history spanning different civilizations. The tour guide was incredibly knowledge and passionate about the history of the site. Uber struggles to find the location, but the staff are great at giving directions!

Travellers Rest is the only true Federal-style home open to the public in Nashville. The tour is generally small and makes you feel like a guest in the home. An award-winning slavery exhibit tells the story of the enslaved workers in an inclusive and intentional manner. This house has a ton of history from the Mississippian culture to early Tennessee and even the Civil War. If you love history - do this one before you do the Hermitage!

Any history nerd will be very happy with this visit. I love seeing history at its original site and this is exactly what you receive. In the past, I have unfortunately visited American history sites that did not give a full account. This was not something I had to worry about here. Not only did I get an accurate interpretation of the homeowners and their family, but I also obtained the history of the original indigenous culture and the slaves who inhabited and contributed greatly to the home and land. If you have the time, make sure to see the original herb garden and learn about the home methods used to combat disease and maintain well-being.

I was fortunate to receive a tour from Lucy. She was very knowledgeable and wise beyond her years. If she is an example of the future of American history preservation, we are all in good hands.

Our guide was great. We had a small party, and our guide was able to spend extra time with us. They were wonderful and seemed to really like their job. They were super enthusiastic and made sure we had a fantastic time.

Beautiful plantation house with antique furnishings & a knowledgeable guide named Benita. She answered all of our questions thoroughly & gave us background information on may people living on the grounds, including enslaved persons. We could freely take pictures & have access to almost every part of the house.

Hadn't planned to go here but just stumbled upon it looking around the Battle of Nashville monument. Glad we stopped by. Was a great history lesson for both us as parents and for the 7 kids we had. Ben, our tour guide, did a great job and spent extra time with us. He kept engaging the kids, especially our youngest "Mario". If you enjoy history, then this is a great place to visit.

SO much history and such an interesting story with such characters! Plus the docent really loves the place and her heart is in her work, so that brought it alive as well. It's never been moved either, everything authentic and he founded Memphis - but note when it was being built, they found 37 skeletons. It's on a mound - yes, a Native American burial site! The docent told us it makes some people frightened to go in. But do, and see all the beauty of the grounds as well.

Interesting tale of the Overton dynasty. The house itself has been built and expanded. Most of the items in the house are pieces from the period rather than original to the family or house. The tour guide was very casual - more like holding a conversation with attention to all our questions. It is worth taking the tour - I can’t imagine not taking a tour. The weaving house had an exhibit on enslaved people that is worth visiting. I hope they can revitalize it; some of the information is high up making it difficult to read and a bit faded. The exhibit on the history of Nashville, the Civil War and the Overton family’s involvement put all the events in perspective ( I had an aha moment there). We spent about an hour and forty five minutes in total (on a very cold day).

Debated about 4 or 5 stars and landed on 5. They have done a great presentation of the property with what they have. Not the first place to go in Nashville, but it should be on the list for history buffs.
