Beautiful stone manor house (of 25,000 sq ft) set on over 1100 beautiful acres in Giles County. Well worth visiting.

Fascinating part of Giles Co, Tennessee, and Mars (think candy) family history. The house is stately with many interesting features, grounds are beautiful especially in spring. The horse racing connection is an interesting feature as well with indoor and outdoor facilities that were tops during the early 1900's.

My best girl and I had ridden past the farm entryway in the past and vowed to return one day to investigate further. Finally, as part of a day out with my parents, we made arrangements to visit and tour the manor house and are so glad that we did!
This visit was only the four of us. Our host, Kim, greeted us on arrival and led us into the dining hall where we watched a short presentation on the history of Frank Mars and how he came to choose this area for his farm. Kim then continued our history lesson with her vast knowledge of the Mars family, the property and the area in general. Afterwards we were allowed to stroll about the house and explore at our leisure. Kim remained available to answer questions at our whim.
The manor house is as stately as one would imagine and full of history, craftsmanship and a few mysteries (Such as, why are their two call buttons on Mr. Mars' bedroom?). The architectural and styling details are numerous and fascinating, both inside and out, and I was glad that we were not rushed and had plenty of free time to wander and explore. Even my mother climbed both staircases to explore, which frankly shocked me more than a little! In all, we spent a good hour and a half in the manor house.
We had other plans for lunch in neighboring Lynnville, so we didn't tour the grounds on this visit. My best girl and I plan to return for the Christmas festivities.

This is a remarkable place - a saving of an entire town during the depression. The Mars family took such attention to detail in their buildings, and used local individuals to assist in their buildings. Today it is a first of its kind touring. Don't miss it!

Really enjoyed the tour of the farm and house and lunch was delicious! The staff keeps you entertained as well as informed about the time when the farm was owned by the Mars family and right up to today. This would be a great spring or fall day trip.

Very beautiful house and view of country side - 20 bedrooms (really). Built by Mr. Mars (funder of Mar s candy company - Chicago, Il. back in 1930's. He employed a vast amount of local men during the depression for (50 cents a day) which was a great salary during the depression years. The house is unbelievable - built of stone. We visited with a group thru a church reservation. You can also reserve the house for special occasions (wedding), etc.

Got a very nice quick story about the house and its owners. Loves that we were encouraged to wander through the house on our own. Very lovely.
