Anna was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable, and keen. Made the tour very interesting and interacted with us.
Highly recommend for those interested in historical Bermudian living and home life.

This is so underrated and I was enchanted by my visit as I had no clue as to what to expect but this house has remained untouched for hundreds of years and has no electricity so you experience the feeling of the house as it would have been .
The interesting history and artefacts are enough to fill the imagination but to also gleam a hint of life for a certain type of person and wonder at life and how things have changed is priceless.
I could look at this place again and again and find more to look at and love each time.
The Dollshouse that is a perfect replicated miniature of the trust house and the toys are amazing .
The pictures and paintings of the family are truly magnificent along with the house furnishings.
I shall go back very soon.

This is off the beaten path, but was nearby for us so we were curious. The tour is $5 and partially self guided but the "curator" is very knowledgeable and available for questions. It takes about an hour. I believe it's the first house built on Bermuda. It has a lot of fun history inside. Rooms with old toys, views, and an outhouse. There is an outhouse and separate building that is private but believed to be the kitchen of the original house. There is some slave history as well. Very interesting. Bus stop right near it on Sayle Road.

Verdmont is located in Smith's Parish. You do need transportation to get here; bus or scooter. The salmon colored home is located on a hill with an absolutely gorgeous view of the South Shore. You actually enter the house through the back. It is furnished in 17th Century period style and has a fantastic Bermuda cedar staircase. We took the advice of the docent and started our tour by going out of the front door and viewing the house as it would have been seen by arriving guests. She then suggested going up to the 3rd floor where there was a static display explaining the history of the house and its ownership before proceding downstairs and through the lovely rooms. There were books on tables in the rooms giving details of some of the pieces in the room if you are interested. The gardens are lovely and the docent on hand gave really helpful advice which enhanced our enjoyment of the property. We purchased a combo ticket for $10.00 which includes visits to the Globe Hotel and Tucker House in St George. All of these properties are worth your time to learn something about thehistory, the lives of the people and the culture of this beautiful country.

Verdmont is an amazingly beautiful museum home. We spent a little over an hour there. Admission is $5 per adult which we were happy to pay to support this beautiful structure. It is definitely out of the way, but the bus stops at the end of the road and it was something we enjoyed on our second trip to Bermuda. The docent seemed surprised to see us, and nobody else showed up while we were there, but that meant we had a private tour. Only go if you truly enjoy old homes and the history behind them. There was a beautiful view that I will never forget. Take a few minutes and walk the grounds as well and don't miss the slave quarters off to the side. All of that said, our young teens were bored but they dealt with it and the did like the view. Be advised the bus stop is not in a safe area, traffic wise, and only runs every hour so plan accordingly, and bring water.

If you love history you'll want to take the time and effort to tour this big, lovely home in Smith's Parish. We started on the 3rd floor where there is a lot of background information and a great display and made our way down where a tour guide could answer questions and give more information.
It is not easy to get to. You take Bus route 1, which only runs every hour. We missed it leaving so spent 2 lovely hours at the house. Not a bad thing, but we were done in an hour. The bus stops are pole stops at this location, which aren't always the best places to wait.

Your image of National Trust properties, certainly in England, may be fusty old buildings with long corridors full of slowly moving queues and hundreds of pieces of furniture that after the first five minutes you cannot recall one from the other. This place is different.
I went on a hot sunny day (as they tend to be in Bermuda in June) to be met by a breeze blowing through the house which stands on top of the hill, giving views of the ocean both south and north.
Start in the attic, it has an informative display that sets the context - a 300 year old home structurally unchanged, Georgian design yet before that had even become popular in England. The model of the building with dolls-house furnishings is outstanding. If you have children go to the nursery room next - a fantastic collection of old toys with detailed little figures. a couple of cribs and nursery furniture. Downstairs some valuable portrait paintings of former residents.
Why is this place so wonderful? In part because it is small, a manageable size for a pleasant visit, not so large as to be tiring, not so repetitive to be boring; well-selected Bermudian furniture, enough information about each so as to stimulate your interest.
I strongly recommend you find time to go here, even if an old house would not normally feature on your list of things to see - you will like this one.

This remarkable, beautifully situated house is basically unchanged since the early 1700s and contains a wide collection of Bermudian antiques. Our tour started with a fairly short overview of the property and its history from the docent, after which we were left on our own to explore the rest of the house at our leisure, assisted by the very detailed, item-specific notes in each room. This was a real highlight of our week in Bermuda. It is easily accessible on the #1 bus, with a stop right outside the driveway to the house. If you have any interest in history, this is not to be missed.

FINALLY got in to see this (i've tried, twice, and both times missed its 'open' hours) Sunday and found it an interesting view of what 'grand living' was like in Bermuda's hey days. I'm grateful to the Ntl. Trust for preserving such a homestead, complete w/ the UNESCO Slave Quarters on site, just wish it were open a couple days a week with someone interesting on site to tell you of life in Bermuda in the 1700's. Entry is included along with other Ntl. Trust properties, so if you have one of these joint passes and it is open, DO amble up.

If you only see one Bermuda National Trust museum, make it this one. Verdmont is an historic plantation built in 1710 and still has a lot of original features, including objects from the families that lived there. The house is on top of a hill and has amazing ocean views! Then number 1 bus can drop you off right near the main gate. If you are a fan of historic houses and wondered what life was like for wealthy 18th century Bermudians, this is not to be missed. The admission when I was there is February 2009 was $5 for adults and $2 for students/seniors.
