It's a 1:45hr drive from central Abuja, the road is tarred all the way, I got to see the famous zuma rock, we got there around 5pm just as the sun was setting, the locals and staff were very friendly and helpful, encouraged us to come back and camp for the night which will require a $50 security fee, it was the dry/harmattan season so the water levels were low and the grasses not as green. We did not attempt to swim but the were signs all over strongly advising tourist not to swim. It was a breathtaking view, I will definitely visit again, and you should too!!!

One of the easiest waterfall to access in Nigeria. A beauty locked out 3 Hours away from Abuja in Niger. Picnic, Fishing, a little hike, and sightseeing in a really serene environment. It costs 500 Naira per person. Best to go at the beginning of the raining season when the falls aren't too aggressive.

So I visited the place on 15 Feb 2020, and what I saw was intriguing. From the landscape to the falling waters with a thunderous sound. I sure had a wonderful moment hiking around the attraction.

simply wow we saved the best for the last. Gurara falls is well managed - there is an entrance fee of 500 naira per person. Its better to have your own means of transportation. There are different areas of the waterfall. The lookout point, the sandy shore part where you can do pinics and barbeque , the rocky front at the waterfall base where you can sunbath if you wanted.

Towards the end there is a swimming area where you can take dip. The locals fish there also so its possible to get white catfish, black catfish and some other types. We had a guide and gave him a 1000 Naira for taking us around. Absolutely a must see

Hmmmm, how will I start my review... I'm a lover of nature, wildlife, history and art. I needed to go away for a few days and take time off so I went on a group tour with friends and family then I made some new friends. Gurara waterfalls is a beautiful and breathtaking sight, it is located in North central which is a safe area in the north, Niger State. You will have to pay a token to access the waterfalls. The serene and atmosphere is fresh and cool, the environment is pristine, with lots of trees, plants, flowers providing fresh air and oxygen which helps the brain. It is surrounded by rocks and mountains. The water is very clear around the dry season and a little muddy during the raining season, it's better to go during the dry season, you will see the beauty of the clear water when the sun is shining,it's a place to skinny deep without feeling an ounce of guilt. You have to descend some rocky stairs which is very steep so you have to be careful will descending, it's easier to go down to the waterfalls but when you are ascending, it's like you are going hiking, I tend to look at it as two in one exercise and sight seeing - pleasure n pain. You can sit close to the water flowing from the waterfall and cast your mind back make amends, look into the future and smile for it brings hope and tranquillity to you. It's a place to go to bird watching, romantic getaways, family picnics or me time. When going bring along your food, snacks, drink, swimming gear, hat, sun screen, nice hiking sneakers, pack extra warn clothes cos it might get chilly. The river and falls itself is noted to have great potentials for sport fishing,it has also been said that there's an area down the river where crocs can be found in their natural habitat.

Gurara falls is a place to be, I had lots of fun. Nature is indeed beautiful!

Discover an amazing wonder of nature right in the heart of Niger where our tourists were surprised to see a glittering rainbow right at the center of the water fall! It's a place to be for family, student and nature lovers though we weren't sure if the rainbow sighted was because the day was sunny but all the same it's a fun experience anyway!

Went there from Abuja - a good 2-2.5 hrs drive with private car. Entrance is N1000. A guide will walk you to a viewing platform and on your own time to the river bank. Swimming is prohibited (maybe it's the rainy season but nobody in his right mid would get that idea). The waterfall is impressive. You can look at it for minutes and be mesmerized by the same yet different image of water passing by under all the noise made by the water. We spend then a good 45 minutes at the river bank, just enjoying the spot, looking at the water passing by. The guide gave some information when asked. The place itself is not much frequented, we saw another 2 small groups and the visitor's book showed about 10 people per day who pass by. There is a small area where you can sit on a bench and table under the shade (you cant see the waterfall from there though). There was some trash lying around which was not so nice. All in all, a good stop when in the area or when you want to get out of the city for a (half) day trip.

Yes, the site is attractive, a great place to picnic and have a cool swim during dry season when the water flow has subsided. But do NOT swim in the central pool of the fall area. About once every few weeks, someone drowns. No one knows why or how, but the individual gets pulled in and cannot resurface. We were there when this occurred once and it was horrifying. Just the month before this, a whole Indian family drowned. Stay close to the large smooth rocks further downstream with the smaller pools. Try to go with someone that knows the place.
