McMiller is not hard to find, it is about 20 miles north of Lake Geneva and there are very clear signs starting about 2 to 3 miles away. There are multiple ranges – all of them outdoor and almost all of them covered with a roof. There is a 100 Yd, 50 Yd and 25 Yd. I believe that there is a static trap/skeet range as well (we did not use) and I think there might be a trap/skeet action trail back in the woods as well.
There is plenty of parking, and a small office/lodge type building. The lodge is warm, with a wood burning fire, flush restrooms, a small and rather basic concession stand, a few large tables, and a small retail section. The retail section sells common ammunition… .22, 9, .308, .30-06, shotgun rounds, 7.62x39 etc…it isn’t a huge selection, but as long as you aren’t shooting something weird like 5.78 Sumatran, you should be able to find your round. They sell gloves, a few basic cleaning items, muffs etc…there is a gun smith on the premises which is nice to know. They also rent some guns, but the selection is not exactly enormous. They also have a few guns for sale.
The prices are very reasonable – for $20 bucks, we could shoot all day on any of the rifle/pistol ranges. There are no target carriers here…on cease fire, you simply walk to the frame and use the provided stable gun to put on a new target. The range officers are friendly and attentive. If you break their rules (say, emptying a clip rapid fire)…, you will get a very stern verbal warning (probably) and told a second occurance will get you thrown out (and I believed them when they said that to the guy next to me).
If you are hauling a lot of gear, a range cart is a nice idea. Dress for the weather…even though it is covered, the wind can still get you. There isn’t much around that I saw as far as food (apart from a basic concession stand selling brats and chili and little else), but you could probably bring your own food I would think…we hit a place afterwards in Lake Geneva and that was fine.
All in all, it is a nice facility and the price of the all day pass can’t be beat.

Wasn't sure what we would be doing as a family, for Father's day. Then our son thought of shooting practice at McMiller's outdoor shooting range. This turn out to be a great idea. We had beautiful weather and a great day. It was a busy day but got on the range with a short wait. It appeared we weren't the only family who planned on going. The staff there was all about safety first. Reviewing the rules beforehand. Making sure we understood how the everything worked. I saw many people of all ages enjoying themselves. We plan to do this again very soon.

Very safe place to shoot.
Staff is friendly.
They encourage women.
Wish they had a small restaurant - that would be heaven.

Went to Mcmillers wesbite recently about sporting clays and in bold letters it said sporting clays closed Nov 6th-9th. Went today Nov 15th from 2 hours away to be told on arrival sporting clays was closed due to construction. No where on there website does it say this or even say under construction phone first to see if range you want is open. I wasted a whole day driving fro nothing

Sporting clays are managed with consideration for all skill levels. 13 stations are mixed so there are some presenting relatively easy birds, and some quite challenging. It's difficult to keep everybody happy, but they try their best!

I've been to probably all the public ranges in the Southern Wisconsin/ Northern Illinois area and this one is by far the worst. After only my second visit in two years I will not go there again. I thought the first time might have been a bad day but the second time around was even worse.
My shooting buddy and I are both around 40 years old and have been around firearms our whole lives. Gun safety was instilled in us at a very young age. So being well versed in the do's and don'ts, we got by ok there. But everyone, including us, got looked down upon the entire time we were there. We witnessed the staff belittle multiple patrons for the slightest infractions. One guy just arriving, during a cease fire, set his cased rifle on his empty bench and before he could turn and walk away you here "get away from the bench". And the words "I hope we're not going to have any more problems" was overheard more than once. All the replies to the staff members were all "yes sir" and "no sir", no one at any time ever returned the rudeness. One poor guy on the 100 yard range got told that if he couldn't shoot any better than that he needed to go to the 25 yard range, as if he was getting put in time out. The guy ended up leaving. During one cease fire all the weapons were secure and everyone was away from the benches, two guys started walking toward their targets and the staff member yells “the range is not clear”. The two guys walked the five steps back to where they were, waited about two seconds, and to no surprise “the range is now clear”. Those are just some of the things I can remember off the top of my head.
I understand that a gun range can be a dangerous place and the staff is there to keep everyone safe, but there was never a reason during our visit to be treating people as if they were complete idiots. The staff doesn’t have to be all smiles and cater to your every need, but scolding grown men like they’re little kids is unacceptable. In this day and age, gun ranges and gun owners tend to get a bad rap, and places like this is only going to fuel the fire. Someone at this facility needs to get a handle on things. I can’t imagine how bad of an experience it would be for someone new to the sport that just wants to learn and to get better at shooting. They would probably leave there never wanting to shot again.

I won't be going back to this place! The RO's treat people like they're idiots! As a former RO myself, I would NEVER treat or talk to people the way they do! I'm 58 years of age, and have been a shooter/hunter for the better part of those 58 years. I'm not claiming to be a "pro", but I've done my share of competitive shooting so I kind of know what I'm doing when it comes to handling firearms. It's too bad, because this is a nice facility, but these "people" give the shooting sports a bad image! I couldn't imagine taking a new shooter to this place only to have them belittled!

If I could give negative stars I would. I was very excited about the opportunity to find a nearby outdoor range. I've been shooting handguns for years, but have two long guns that I never get to shoot because I can only find indoor ranges. Instead I left after only a few minutes after one person in our group broke their procedural rules. He did nothing unsafe... He had 3 guns on the bench instead of 2, took his gun out of the case while the case was off the bench, and walked to the shooting position with his firearm pointed toward the ground. Everything done here is common practice at any other range we have gone to, and perfectly safe. Granted, it was a violation of their rules, but none of the range officers pulled him aside to give him a rundown of their rules like they did with the rest of us in our group. Instead of pulling him aside to make sure he knew the proper procedures that they expect their customers to follow, three of their employees began belligerently screaming at the three of us. We repeatedly tried to explain that the one person was not aware of the rules, and we tried to de-escalate the situation. We repeatedly stated that since he now knew the rules he would follow them. But they continued to create an extremely hostile, and extremely tense situation. They took a procedural mistake made by one person, and turned it into an extremely hostile situation involving six people. McMiller staff creates a very unsafe environment. We all chose to leave because people should not be shooting firearms in that situation. These are the hot headed gun nuts that the liberal media wants the public to believe we all are. Fortunately, these instances are few and far between, but be safe and go somewhere where the employees are not completely insane.

I have been to McMillers at least a Dozen Times. Always a pleasureable experience. From Clay Pigeons to Plinking to the 100 yard Range. (never used 300) They are always very friendly and safety conscious. Will definitely continue to go back there.
