This was one of the more intense hikes we have done around Oahu. We have certainly been on longer distance hikes but this one was slippery and wet and you needed to use the ropes to scale down some small embankments. All in all it was a good day. We did it in flip flops (we are aussies so “thongs” but didn’t want you to get the wrong idea 🤣.

Be aware of wet ground if you take this hike. It's a great hike and you'll probably get a little muddy. Slippery spots on the trail. Some intense parts too. The end is nice. Worth the hike for sure. Just Do It!

This was a highlight of our one day around the island tour. Great hike to waterfall. You must wear a life vest provided for free (I tipped $5) by two guys friom Brazil. You have to walk carefully over slippery rocks to get into the cold water My wife swam to the falls and back while her chicken husband stood close to the rocks (me) Great place with extoic trees and plants

Overall this hike was fairly easy for us as an athletic family of 10, 13, and 40. However, there were a few steep spots that could be considered difficult. The scenery was gorgeous for the entire hike and the waterfall was especially beautiful. If you are a more inexperienced hiker the steep parts might be enough to deter you, but there are ropes by most of them that are very helpful. The waterfall at the end of the hike will make the hike worth it, though.

Waimano falls trail is a mid level challenge trail, that will end up with beautiful falls. It's a big challenging to some but doable. Little kid say need help in some areas. Do not confuse it with Waimano Valley Trail Head, which is a nice trail but won't lead to the waterfall.

Moderate trail with lots of shade. Don't get fooled by the first half of the trail. From the 3/4 mile sign it's all steep down hill over boulders and tree roots with ropes to help out - felt like a full body workout! It was fun to use the rope at the end to repel into the base of the waterfall. When we visited the waterfall it was only a little trickle of water, but it was a fun trail. There's also a rope to swing into the pool but the water level looked pretty low so we didn't. The trail took us about 1.5 hours each way.

You can park on the street around the entrance. There were some kids with dogs that I think people rent for hunting, so dont be alarmed if you see them. The hike itself starts off easy then becomes moderately steep, but not dangerous. Follow the trails signs as you go along. When you have been walking for a while and are in the thick of the jungle, you need to make a left turn to go to the pools at the bottom. There is a little arrow made of sticks pointing the way. If you go the wrong way, it is very obvious and you just turn around. There are some waterfalls, rope swings, and wading pools at the end of the hike.

This short trail it’s a good family hike with kids, and at the end they can jump in the pools by the waterfall. The 1st mile it’s very easy, basically flat walking until you get to the junction with Manana Trail. Here you take right and start descending, and yes you get to the famous Cardiac Hill which gets a little steep and covered with roots. This section it’s a little bit harder coming back from the falls, but if you take it easy and steady you will be over it in no time.
Best to visit weekdays, weekends can get very crowded (that is the reason I don’t go to often here). Summer time water gets little stagnant, I prefer to go after rain to see more flow. Rope swings are fun over the pools.

One of the better hikes to do that isn't as packed as other main hikes or trails. When we went it was a little muddy, but not a difficult hike at all.

Trotzdem, man kommt ganz schön ins schwitzen.

Yes it's safe. The upper pool is probably safer for kids, as it is not deep enough for adults to swim in. The lower pool is adequate for adults to swim in, and there is a gradual decline so no need for hesitations, if you had any. However, as you swim towards the center of the lower pool, it gets pretty deep and you won't be able to touch the bottom (my husband jumped from the top of the rocks, above where the ropes are, into the center of the pool and he was unable to touch the bottom). So I wouldn't allow kids to swim there unless they're adequate swimmers.
Make sure wear water shoes as there are a lot of rocks in both pools.

Hi! I'm planning a photography trip to Oahu, and I have some specific questions about the Waimano Pool and Falls. I hope you can help!
1.) How difficult is it to find your way/stay on the trail? Do you think a group could easily get lost, or is it well-marked? What do the trail markers look like?
2.) How far away are the two pools and falls from each other? (Are there more than two pools?) Are they on different trails, or can you follow the same trail to get to each one? Does each pool have its own waterfall?
Thanks for your help!

The manana trail versus the waterfall is clearly marked by a sign. The only time we weren't sure which way to go was when we got close to the falls- there is a T in the trail- take the left to the falls. There were a FEW trail markers- ribbon tied on a tree I believe. The pools are tiered- so they are basically connected by the waterfall. Whatever you do- make sure there has been enough rain in the week before you go. We only had one morning of rain and therefore there was no waterfalls and the pools were pretty shallow.
