What a joke, Marriot negotiated a 4 night stay at the custom house in Boston. I chose the encore package in their 90 minute vacation club presentation. in past years the encore package allowed me to travel to resorts around the country, this time they failed to mention that my contract would FORCE me to book another trip in BOSTON in their smelly hotel and not be able to travel to another premier destination like times past. the same price package as I have bought before but this time they are requiring me to return to an alcoholic town and i don't fRICKING drink. I might start drinking because of Marriotts refusal to accommodate me on the package allowing me to preview many other resorts. THis will be my last warning to the management. THEIR IS NO FINANCIAL LOSS FOR THEM IN ALLOWING ME TO ALTER THE DESTINATION. THERE IS NO LOGIC IN THEIR LACK OF ACCOMODATION FROM A PLACE SET UP TO ACCOMODATE ITS MEMBERS AND GUESTS. WHAT THE .FRICK.... AM I MISSING?

This review is strictly for the observation deck at the top of the tower, not a review of the hotel. I'll start off by saying that the views are outstanding - probably the best in Boston, and well worth the visit. You need to reserve about 2 weeks ahead of time, though, and you need to call (can't reserve online). Only 8 people are allowed on the one trip up the tower per day, and it's in high demand.
I was quite disappointed in that I was expecting a tour, providing background of the building's history and the sites you could see below. Instead, a security guard met us in the second floor lobby, escorted us to the observation deck, and told us we needed to return downstairs within 30 minutes. That was it.
The views are awesome, the time up there is generous, and it's all free. This is definitely worth it--just don't expect a tour, as I did. I was also surprised that only 8 people are allowed per day. There's plenty of room up there for more. Also, in the second floor lobby, there's some historic material. Take the 10 minutes to look at it and read the info yourself, since no one will provide that information for you.

I have no reservations recommending this hotel! First, it is in a historic building (rooms have been recently updated) with displays of interesting art and artifacts from the history of the building and Boston. Its clock tower stands out in the skyline, which makes it easy to find your way home. Speaking of walking around Boston, this hotel is very well located. There is a T station right in front (2 stops from the airport). Almost everything we did was under a 20 minutes walk or a short T ride (Walking: Freedom Trail, North End bakeries and restaurants, Boston Commons, Beacon Hill, Bunker Hill, Tea Party Museum, Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall; T rides: Fenway and MFA; 15 minutes Uber to JFK Presidential Library). There are lots of restaurants and bars nearby. The rooms are spacious, clean and the room we had on the 12th floor had great views (definitely ask for a room on an upper floor). It was very convenient to have a fridge, microwave and utensils in the room. Also we liked having the bedroom in its own room, giving us space to spread out after a day out. The hotel (there were no resort fees which was very refreshing) arranges several activities, snack times and happy hours. We participated in the Freedom Trail and Beacon Hill walking tours and Kim our guide showed and taught us things we would not have noticed/known if we walked them ourselves. The staff was friendly and helpful! Kaylee, Brenda and Zach were very helpful when checking in and out. Since we had a late flight out of Boston, they offered to store our bags, and gave us key so we could still use the facilities. I would definitely stay here again the next time I visit Boston and I would recommend it to my family and friends without hesitation!

My family and I were in Boston on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, when understandably most attractions are closed down. We went to the custom house on the 25th, and were told the observation deck was closed. However, within minutes (after I explained we were there only for the day), the Christmas spirit kicked in and we were given an exclusive trip to the deck. Just made our day!
The deck itself is a beautiful and must-do event for anyone that’s joys panoramic views. There are wrought iron tables and chairs strewn around for tired feet, and iron grills to prevent accidents. Go for it!

To clarify, there are only 8 reservations per day allowed and they book up well in advance for the summer. The 48h is the minimum notice to call the front desk.I called May 29, 2023 - and they were booked up for all of June 2023 already…. Good luck! It’s such a shame they limit it as much as they do.

Huge thanks to Sean M! He was incredibly friendly in our interaction and was able to schedule an amazing outdoor 360 tour of the top of the Clocktower for me and my family. He even gave me his card so that I could confirm how many of us we’re going to attend.
Five stars to Sean, but I do wish that the Marriott would be more considerate to the public, and allow more visits. My understanding is that when the building was sold to Marriott, they agreed that they would allow public visitation. I think they are following the letter of the law, but not necessarily the spirit. It's a shame that this amazing, beautiful piece of Boston history is so difficult to access.

We stayed in The Custom House as part The Marriott Pulse Hotel. It was our third stay and it remains an excellent option for downtown Boston. The staff are all very helpful and welcoming, from the front desk to maintenance everyone is so friendly — they made us feel at home and cared for. We come for a week and enjoy all that Boston has to offer. Parking our car at Post Office square (a short walk back) over the weekend and then early Monday we drive out to Wonderland in Revere, it is a clean quick T ride home to the Aquarium stop on the Blue line. Very easy & very inexpensive covered parking compared to valet or the city garages!

This was a real disappointment... we had reserved a Sunday tour of the Custom House Tower nearly 2 months in advance, only to arrive and find that Marriott (which now occupies the building and runs the tours) had lost our reservation. They had us wait a full 30 minutes to see if there were any no-shows, and then told us that they could not accommodate us. Advance reservations are made by phone -- I am kicking myself for not calling back to confirm or demanding an e-mail confirmation from the start (I had asked and was told that they didn't do that, and that it wasn't necessary). I typically think of Marriott as a highly trustworthy company. Our trust was obviously misplaced this time - we lost 2 hours of transit time, my son left his job early so that we could get there in time, and we ended up paying $28 in parking, all for nothing. I'm sure it's a lovely tour, but be sure to call in advance to re-confirm reservation, and ideally get it in writing.

Beautiful hotel that is centrally located but lacking security. The hotel is perfect for families, especially those with young children. Lacking security with the observation deck. A large group of locals camped out on the observation deck during the July Harborfest fireworks, selfishly taking up all available space that is meant for hotel guest to enjoy the fireworks.

Tremendous views and amenities. The staff was first-rate--extremely friendly and helpful--Joseph Louis (the bell captain) was gracious and kind beyond belief. Also, for some reason our door stuck, and security couldn't get it open, and sent for an engineer. All this took less than five minutes, and Leah at the front desk sent up wine, candies, and toffee to make up for our inconvenience. We weren't inconvenienced, understanding that life happens while we're busy making other plans.

What’s the best way to get from Logan Airport to the hotel without a rental car?
Rédigé le 20 avril 2022
Can you go to the top of the tower anytime or are there times you can go????
Rédigé le 13 septembre 2019
You can go anytime and the view from all four sides is spectacular. This was the very first high rise in United States so when it was built it was the highest building in the country! I just got home from this hotel 2 days ago and the observation tower is being renovated/restored so there was no access for us during this journey. I expect they'll have it finished asap but I'd check first.

what is the parking situation at the hotel and around the hotel ? Also do you have to pay when you go in and out?
Rédigé le 18 juin 2019
Parking isn't a problem. They have valet service. However, there are many parking facilities around and near the hotel if you prefer to park your own vehicle.

Hi. Slightly confused. Custom House is a timeshare AND a regular Marriott hotel property as well? I booked a weekend and m not a timeshare owner. Thanks for clarification.
Rédigé le 17 janvier 2019
Yes you’re correct. You can book it like any other hotel. You will love it.
