Lovely waterfront scenic park close the Liberty Station and San Diego (SAN) Airport areas.
Well-maintained and peaceful walkway. Very safe.
There is a fairly large fishing pier midway along the park. The pier has a bait and tackle shop as well as a bistro/cafe.
The park has a children's playground area as well as various statues throughout.
Lots of street parking along Shelter Island Drive. There are also parking lots near the north and south ends of the park.
No fees for the park or parking.

Walked this path and it was beautiful. Nice easy walk and there are plenty of things to do and see. I really enjoyed this walk and was a nice way to see some excellent sites and different ships.

There's a nice paved walkway that goes along the bay with views of boats, statues, and interesting monuments. There's plenty of free parking nearby.

Yes Shelter Island has been our 2nd home for the last 7 winters. It is the best place in San Diego as one is in the city but not. The island makes one feel as if one is on an island. It is quiet and peaceful but yet has a lot of activity. We have stayed at the BEST WESTERN ISLAND PALMS for all 7 years and with it's friendly staff, great location, and many activities, is for us the best place to stay on the island (as many as 23 nights) and the best bang for the buck. If one stays on the island, one does not need to drive any where for days and can enjoy the long walks, or just sitting on the many benches and watch the ships, helicopters, fighter jets, people, birds, seals, dolphins and many more exciting things happen and just relax. The city view across the bay is always beautiful and a night just glows.
If you have never been to San Diego or you have but not been to shelter island, try it. You just might discover an Oasis that you have been looking for.

If you like to walk, enjoy bay views, and explore some history, this is the place to be. There is a wide flat sidewalk that stretches rrom the iconic Bali Hai restaurant that was the haunt of Hollywood stars to the South tip where the Harbor Police/Customs is located. Along the way you have sweeping views of the naval airbase at North Island, pass by the new public fishing pier, and stop to see markers, such as the one to Portuguese fishermen or the Japanese Friendship Bell. If hungry or thirsty, there's a range of places to stop from the hotel restaurants to casual eateries on the water, such as Fathom or the Fuel Dock.

What a beautiful place to walk! We walked over from our hotel, but there is free parking near the Bali Hai. While walking we stopped and checked out America's Cup Harbor, the concrete gazebo, the fishing pier where a pelican posed for us (we came back to dinner at the cute little hot dog restaurant on the pier), then continued down to the Tunaman's Memorial, the pagoda and the mosaic fountain, minus water, at the far end. We turned around to walk back and saw a Navy ship returning home from deployment. We then retraced our steps and returned to our hotel. It was a lovely morning walk.

Da unser hotel direkt am Hafen von shelter Island liegt sind wir natürlich spazieren gegangen und es ist sehr ruhig und entspannt hier.
Wäre unser hotel nicht hier würden wir wahrscheinlich nicht extra herfahren.

We stumbled across this place and were so happy that we did. The walkway was clean and had plenty of trash bins should you need one. There are sculptures along the way as well. The fishing pier seemed to be a crowd favorite. We sat at one point and just watched the Navy jets take off and land across the bay. There are a lot of dogs being walked here as well. We would go back.

As a previous reviewer noted, there's a lot to see and do here and it is very scenic, especially with all the palm trees lining the road and sidewalks. It's a nice way to spend a few hours or more walking, dining, fishing or even boating. The current launch area is still closed/under renovation as of October 2018, however. There's ample room on the grassy areas for frisbees, kites or whatever and even a small playground for the little ones.
A lot of marine traffic to watch, awesome views of the harbor and downtown San Diego skyline (if the marine layer hasn't settled in). The marina side of the island - where the hotels are located - isn't as accessible for walking, but the harbor side is pretty much wheelchair friendly.
Accessible by the #28 bus, otherwise lots of free parking, can get full during concerts at Humphrey's however. I was also surprised to see that it was still available late-night; in some cities they would close a gate at 10 pm or something but here it was wide open. No overnights allowed, they will tow.
