The Barrio Logan community is a jewel of San Diego. It is located in a predominately Mexican community that takes pride in its Chicano legacy. Located about 2 miles south of Petco Park it is very easy to access. We took the trolley from downtown and it was a quick 15 minute ride.
The area has gone through a redevelopment so there are staples from the past as well as many new businesses and cultural icons. The murals are exceptional. It is a nice place for a walking tour (but use common sense) and Logan Blvd. has many great businesses

Fantastic area if you're into street art like me. The way the artists utilized the freeway pillars is amazing!
Only a few stops on the train from downtown, with plenty of restaurants near by. We stopped at the local Mexican supermarket to pick up groceries.

The scale of the art work & the fact that the canvas are primarily the freeway pillars makes this street art space truly unique. Although the actual artwork isn't particularly outstanding, if you enjoy street art... I would say this is a must visit! The mural of the guy holding up the freeway is pretty special.
There is a good Mexican supermarket nearby & some pretty good Asian restaurants if you're hungry.

Barrio Logan is filled with culture. Art, brew pubs, burgers taquerias and barrieria.
Make sure to stop at Hayes for a tasty burger, mishmash for a hipster experience and Birrieria 664 for your soul.

On my return trip from the las americas outlet mall on the trolley there was a stop at Barrio Logan so I decided to get off here and hunt down some Mexican food. Walked up the main drag Cesar Chavez and saw a large market the Mercado north gate this is a Mexican supermarket and on occasion I’ve stopped at other location to get good cheap Mexican food. Inside is a Mexican deli serving tacos, tamales, burritos and plate combos.i decided to get the two tacos for $4 deal chose the pescado tacos which the fish were breaded. My only issue was since it was Covid there was no available seating allowed so I ended up going out to the large square outside. Other then that there was the attitude brewery a few yards up the street which had a decent selection of craft beers.
I got some free entertainment when a low rider drove down the street and started bouncing his car

I took the MTS bus to this area and picked up the La Neta magazine which had a map inside for the Barrio Art Crawl which is a self guided tour of murals, open studios, galleries, and local shops with music, food and drinks from 4-10pm. I worked my way down National Ave, Main Street and Logan Avenue. Lots of people out and about but as it got dark I was able to hop onto the free trolley back to my starting point at Thorn Brewery. I needed to come back another day to walk around again when there was more daylight.

This is a neighborhood that is experiencing a revival, and it is fun to see it (re)develop.
Just head for Chicano Park under the Coronado Bay bridge to get a sampling of local flavor. The blocks of stores are not very long, but look promising in the long run: savor tacos and beer as well.
A fun walk around on a Sunday afternoon (and for the ART CRAWL on the second Saturday of the month.)

A humble place with a Big Chicano heart beat. So colourful and arty a must see in San Diego. Eat tacos at Salud or taste a Barrio dog there’s also a brewery and get an ice cream from the sweet paleta man pushing his cart through the park. The skatepark is under the bridge too. There are quite a few homeless around the park, but no more than anywhere else I’d seen. If you love old cars you’ll love the low riders cruising around or parking in Logan street.

Barrio Logan Art brawl is one of the best cultural experiences in San Diego! I'm so happy to have found this monthly event. I had a great time last night through and through. Chat up a storm with local artists and had authentic Mexican street food ( you guessed right, it is Taaaaco.
A very welcoming environment and a diverse collection of art/artists!
Interesting eclectic crowd with art.
Such a great way to explore the neighborhood of Logan Heights and support local business. So many great shops and galleries.
Do check it out, you'll be amazed at how welcoming the Barrio community is.

I recently went back to the barrio to see what all the buzz was about. What a transformation from what it use to be. Indeed there are still neglected (very) areas that look the same as they did 20 years ago, but the renaissance on Logan Avenue definitely makes up for it. Amazing places to eat, drink and shop.
I would recommend the following for any visitor:
1. Chicano Park (during the day)
2. Logan Ave (Por Vida, Salud, Barrio Dog, Boarder X, El Carrito, Ciccia Osteria, Grind House)
3. Cafe Moto (hip coffee shop with massive roasting facility at back full of cool vintage stuff)
4. Cuatro Milpas ( the line out the door speaks for itself)
5, Mishmash (delicious comfort food with vegan options)
6. El Mercado ( Pho, Ironfist, Dough Nation, Maggies Cafe, Oi Asian fusion, El Pulpo).

How do you get to the water from Barrio Logan on foot? Where is the nearest waterway for taking a nice walk/stroll along the water/pier/beach/dock/anything? (Not including the navy base where we have no access.)
