Make Reservations ahead of time. Real early during summer tourist season. The prices downstairs are not bad. Very small dining area, quaint. Great food. Great service.

Whenever I visit Gettysburg, I make sure I have meal at the Dobbins House Tavern! This is was different because I ate in the tavern and not the dining room. I ate at the bar which was nice. The staff were very attentive and polite. I ordered the crab cake, baked potato, and ceasar salad. The crab cake was delicious! I highly recommend and ask for a side of tartar sauce (over the top) puts it over the top. No visit here is complete if you don’t have their famous Rum Jelly drink…so good!

We stopped in for a drink and appetizer and headed downstairs to the bar area. It was such a nice surprise! We loved the colonial atmosphere. Really LOVED our fun bartender, Linda - funny, warm, friendly and welcoming! The roast beef sandwich was fantastic!

Wait for a seat, they shuttle you down to a cellar, elbow to elbow. Waitress was robotic and rude…..food was good, but not good enough for me to spend another cent in that establishment. Stay away better options

Three of us couples were visiting the Gettysburg area and it was recommended that we stop by this historic tavern for a great dining experience. Though we had to wait 30 minutes for a table, it was worth the wait! We eventually were seated in the downstairs dining room where you feel transported to the colonial era of the late 18th century. It was a darkened room with low lighting & candles and servers were dressed in colonial outfits.

The menu provided a variety of choices and the pricing was reasonable. A few of us got the roasted chicken which was very tender and delicious. My wife ordered the blue cheese burger.

Following our meal, we made our way to the museum portion of the Inn where you can ascend a steep set of wood stairs to see a hiding place used for former slaves that made their way north as well as a collection of period artifacts.

The Tavern at the Dobbin house is one of my must eat places when I visit Gettysburg. Going down in the cool candlelit tavern is so unique.
The staff is dressed in period clothing and is very attentive.
This was my first time eating at the bar and it was nice to sit and chat with the bartender.
The food is always good and I make sure I leave room for desert.

Awesome building. Amazing history. Cool atmosphere. Tremendous service. Rum Belly drink was delish. French onion soup was phenomenal. $37 prime rib left me disappointed—overcooked, ok flavor, barely warm by the time our party of 14 was served. Another guy in our party raved about it, so maybe it was just me. I expected better. Caesar salad was a $4 upgrade. Cool experience overall, just wish I would have felt better about my $60 meal.

Was REALLY looking forward to eating here and our entrees and French onion soup was great but we had an EXTREMELY LOUD PARTY OF 8 beside us ( all caps for emphasis). It made the evening miserable for our party of two couples as it made conversation impossible. We left without ordering dessert to escape the cacophony. The manager needed to address this but didn’t. This was very disappointing as this was a first trip to Gettysburg and was looking forward to eating here. Doubt we’ll ever go back here as it was such a letdown of an experience. Of course, a lot of blame goes to the party of 8 with absolutely zero sense of the appropriate or common courtesy.

The Alexander dining room (upper level) of the Dobbin house was the perfect blend of old world charm and top notch food. Our knowledgeable server Rachel, gave expert advise- tailored to our tastes, based on her 10+ years at Dobbin house.
We started with a mixed basket of home made breads and rolls, followed by a fresh Caesar salad. I had the Gettystown shrimp- ( basically shrimp stuffed with crab imperial) but it was far from basic. I had to close my eyes and just appreciate each bite to its fullest! My daughter had the William Penn's pork tenderloin that was indeed tender and the raspberry sauce was a great compliment. Her side was the Brussel sprouts, the outer edges had some crisp but the inside remained soft and flavorful.
We requested "to-go" containers for part of our main courses just so we would have enough room for dessert! Smart decision! The pecan pie was delicious with a scoup of ice cream on the side. We also ordered a slice of "vanilla caramel crunch cake" that was on special. We ate EVERY crumb of dessert and then had leftovers for a light lunch the next day.

I have to add.... that we also had 2 meals from the Dobbin House the day before this fine dining dinner. We stopped in to the tavern on the lower floor the day before (see that review) and when we learned of the eminent snow storm we ordered dinner to go before heading to our B&B. For that dinner we ordered an open faced Ruben, a grilled salmon salad and entire loaf of the date nut bread!
