We’ve long been attending Preakness weekend going to both Friday and Saturday races, all day, inside the Turfside Terrace tent. If you’re looking for everything you want for your money, go to the Derby. If you can handle always slightly less than great, come here. There is always one or two things that seem to go way wrong and it’s almost always an uninformed employee that is involved. This year it was getting yelled at by a wage window worker. Unprofessional, not knowledgeable and just plain rude and almost cost my new and inexperienced betting friend $65 for no reason. Once I remembered where I was, I moved on but I stopped spending my money betting and just enjoyed the included alcohol.

1. the announcements could be made audibly.
2. A videoscreen at our bleachers could have shown us plenty of info on the event.
3. Seemed like an hour or so between races: usually there was silence and no announcers commentary, a wasted opportunity.
4. For $250 ticket they could have offered better food and drink beyond the 2 wines offered gratis.
In sum, for this nationally famed event, I was very disappointed and felt all in our bleachers section, sitting on the first curve, were ignored and kept in the dark. Seems this event is nearing its life span.

I went to the Preakness in 2022. First time. I am new to Baltimore.
Like others here have said, the stands are a bit rundown. It's not that big of a deal, but for a Triple Crown race I was expecting more.
They should have had audio piped into the stands: the buglers, the TV announcers talking about the tradition, this year's jockeys and horses . . . all this was shown on the outdoor big screens, but I couldn't hear any of it! I had to look at buglers silently playing on TV! Then just the murmur of the crowd for 20 minutes, then the race happened, and that was it?! I would have had no clue that it was the second best horse race in the country, unless I had already known that!!
Also, they don't sing the traditional Maryland song anymore, because it was deemed racist. Lame! (Lots of blacks and whites at the race by the way. Everybody polite and mixing and having a great time, even with a lot of drinking going on.) It is clear that this is a big deal for the city, as it ought to be.
Bring back the pageantry, and lets us watch and hear it on the outdoor big screens, and you've got a four star event. Spruce up the stands and you've got a five star event.
P.S. - There was some sort of party tent in the infield blasting rap music almost the whole afternoon. Loud enough that the entire track had to hear it. This was also a negative . . .

Pimlico for the Preakness was great! Like other travelers recommended, go early and enjoy the other races. We arrived about noon, parked at a Metro station and took the Metro to Rogers station and then the shuttle to the track. It was easy and quick.
The parking was very congested and it was nice just to walk right by all of that at the end of the day. I would not have walked all the way from the Mero station to the track - the neighborhood looked rough.
The track itself was fine. We sat in the Grandstand; some lines at the windows (to be expected) but otherwise things were good. Note that the crowds were reduced for 2022 (weather was 92 degrees so the grandstand was a good idea).
Recommendation: Go early, don't drive to the track if you can help it; Bring a hat!

I went to Pimlico because being a former jockey next to the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders Cup the Preakness is a race jockeys dream about but looking at this track changed that. This track is maintained poorly as it looks old and rundown. The parking lot has nothing but potholes and grandstand looks like termites holding hands. Don't bother even stopping at this dump.

Pimlico is very important to us. There are long term plans to revitalize and upgrade the facility very soon. We look forward to the future of Pimlico and having you back once our upgrades are completed.

I'm not much into horse racing but really wanted to see Pimlico as I enjoy historic buildings. The betting area was clean and functional. There wasn't a race but the track looked fine and functional. There's lots of Preakness signs around. The neighborhood however was scary to say the least. I've spent a lot of time in Baltimore and this is one of few times I was actually shaking while driving to the track. The area is run down and the people looked shady. I know this track is historical but I question if the safety of guests who attended the Preakness is worth keeping the race here. Such a shame really.

Disclaimer: I have only attended Pimlico on Preakness and Black Eyed Susan days, both in 2019.
Going to PIM was so much fun. It has been on my bucket list for years, and I finally made the trip in May of 2019.
The good: It's easy to get to from downtown, or anywhere in or near Baltimore. I wouldn't drive on big race days. Take an Uber or a cab, and you'll avoid a traffic mess. They can drop you off at a designated space by the back lot, and when leaving, walk to Sinai Hospital for an easy pickup.
The great: The track itself is beautiful. It's just how I imagined it would be.
The people that work there and other race patrons were just fantastic to talk to. Super helpful, and always a smile for you. Superb quality of horses coming from all over the world. Plenty of totes, we never got shut out.
The bad: It wasn't really organized that well. It seems like the owner (Stronach Group) really wants it to fail so they can close it and move the races to Laurel. It's a shame as there is 150 years of history at PIM and moving it to a suburb would be a bad move for the prestigious BES and Preakness. Laurel is great, but it just wouldn't be the same.
The food was pretty bad. Maybe the best hot dogs in racing, but I'm just not that into hot dogs.
The ugly: The track facilities (infield, club house, bathrooms) are in serious need of repair. There was water from god knows where leaking on us when we were in the clubhouse. The bathrooms smelled and were old. It just looked shabby, even for a race track. I've been to county fairs with nicer facilities. If I could have went and took a leak in the parking lot, I would have been much happier. Really felt bad for ladies, can't imagine what they had to go through. Especially with all the nice dresses, etc.
Bottom line: Do go in 2020 if the track is still open. It will probably move within the next year or two.

First time in Baltimore and to the Preakness Stakes. First yes it is crowded and the traffic is slow getting in, but come on it is worth every bit of the hassle. We Parked in a private citizens yard, ate home cooked bar b que, crab cakes, danced and this was befor we even go into the track. Yea the track is old but thats the beauty of the whole experence, 100 plus years, crowd is dressed up and excitement is palatable.
Thank you Baltimore, the people, and the Pimlico for a great weekend

My husband and I enjoy watching and wagering on horse racing at various tracks throughout the country and Pimlico is by far the most disappointing. Bought tickets in the clubhouse, for the Blackeyed Susan Stakes, and were very unhappy with our seats. We attempted to step outside for some fresh air and some sun and were told we couldn't, as we weren't outside seating ticket holders!!! Not only is this track run down and unattractive, but a lot of the staff is rude as well. We watched the Preakness simulcast at Larel Park, the next day, and wear greater warmly by staff. Laurel Park is absolutely beautiful inside and out!!!!!!!

After watching the Preakness every year, we decided to visit Pimlico Race Course while we were in Baltimore. How disappointing. We entered through the club house entrance and walked upstairs to the simulcast area. It was dirty and run down, and reminded me of an old casino that was well beyond its useful life.
In the betting area there were a lot of people milling about -- many that did not look as though they could afford to lose any money. We walked through the area, went through the track-side door to the outside, snapped a few pictures of the track, and left as quickly as possible. With the people milling about in the parking lot, it all was a little scary.

Are they breeding horses for racing? What happens to horses from birth to their passing, that are deemed not worthy of racing? Thank you very much.

Can you bring chairs to the general admission area at the Preakness?

Is there a race May 26th and what's it like? Time and price would be helpful as well. I've never done horse racing before and just want to check it out. Also is the crime bad?

Just verifying that if you buy Clubhouse Turn Reserve tickets, you are supposed to be allowed access to all areas...except corporate tents etc. ? Thank you in advance-

Hi Carolyn - your review of the Preakness said you were inside close to the finish line. Could you let me know where you were sitting. Were you in the Terrace Dining facility?
We are planning a trip for 2017 and would like to sit inside near the finish line.
Thanks....

ARe there any close hotels to this race course?
Rédigé le 23 juin 2016
There are but it really isn't a great area to be in. The Baltimore waterfront is a much more scenic option with a number of highly recommended eating establishments.

have never been to the Preakness, would like good reasonably priced seating for 2, my wife has issues so need to be near betting station, fewer stairs, less walking the better. how is the Grandstand Apron 20-50? tks, best, dla-

I think you would find that seats in the area known as " Concourse Box" would be to your liking. check with the site as far as availability or visit any one of the on-line brokers

What transportation is provided from hotels in Baltimore to Pimlico race track?
Rédigé le 1 février 2016
City bus line; cab. Parking passes and on site parking are available but poorly designed as are on opposite side of track and staff do not seem interested in helping one get around. Good luck!
