Stop at Chalmette National Cemetery next door
déc. 2020
I left another rating under another naming convention for this site. However, I could not pull up the neighboring Chalmette National Cemetery. So, the cemetery is down a long lane with thousands of fallen warriors from various conflicts. My veteran buddy and I were taken aback by the stark serenity of this lying place for our warriors. Just go there. Just drive down the lane. Stop and read some of the tombstones. Do not forget our fallen and please take kids. There is an entire section of "unknown" fallen warriors. Sad, compelling, and needed to be remembered.

An outstanding National Park with great visitor center and walking tour. It’s an amazing set of exhibits and artifacts that really show the importance and significance of the battle.

Great history near NOLA
nov. 2019
Very close to the City of New Orleans, yet it feels far away. I learned a lot about the Battle of New Orleans. It's a lovely area now with a bloody history.

This is the site of the famous Battle of New Orleans. Read about the battle first and it will help your understanding. It’s a short trip from New Orleans.

History Buffs Must Stop
nov. 2019
Small, yet filled with information. Very nice visitors center with lots of hands on exhibits and a small gift shop. You can also walk to the cemetery. Beautiful tress with Spanish moss dot the property. Very nice quick stop.

Guide gave us a good history lesson
oct. 2019
We didn't get to see the inside of the visitor's center, because it's closed on federal holidays - so plan your trip to avoid those dates. But our guide did give us a good history lesson.

Quick little stop when in the area, visitor center very well done
sept. 2019
We pass this sign on I-12 every time we head to NOLA so it was time to make a point to stop by and learn the history of the Chalmette Battlefield! The visitor center was well done, small and to the point. The quick film and the few artifacts get you caught up on the action surrounding this battle! The park ranger was getting ready to do his talk to the passengers arriving on the paddle boat fresh off the Mighty Mississippi, but was friendly and helpful with all questions we had as well. We saw the battlefield, visitor center, and adjacent cemetery in under 2 hours, so you still have plenty of time to find other interesting things in the NOLA area as well!

Very interesting piece of history.

Today this is a pleasant and calm historical marker. There is an interesting visitor center where you watch a movie and see accounts of the battle fought here. Stroll to the Mississippi river and imagine the day. The plantation house wasn't open the day we were visiting but if you can it is an interesting slice of life from the 1800's. Also a good spot for a picnic.
