Kermit Ruffins, the famous trumpeter has closed this place but it was excellent. The good news is that he opened a new one a few blocks from this one, also in Tremé. Look for the "Mother in Law Lounge" to reach it.

Went here on the recommendation of a frequent visitor and we were not disappointed. Slightly out of the way, but not with Uber, small indoor space with much larger patio outside, where you can still hear the music. Don;'t expect anything fancy but good friendly service and fantastic music. We will definitely go back when back in town.

Kermit is definitely in the coolest guy in the universe club, and his place in the Treme has a lot to do with that. We got there early on a Sunday. Hung out with the man himself and with Kermit's family. Watched the parade roll by out front, dined on a proper barbecue out back, meeting people and soaking up the vibe while Kermit played host. Several hours later when he took the stage we were in fine form to hear his horn. Small place with a lot of love and a lot of history. Bring your mother in law!

I can't speak highly enough about this establishment. We walked in from the quarter (which many will tell you is a bad idea); we found the walk to be quick and easy and not at all intimidating. The food was stellar and we had a great time interacting with the staff and other patrons before the music started up. Kermit was amazing to see in such a small, local venue! We even got to shake his hand on the way out - it made our trip! A big thanks from Colorado, Kermit!

My boyfriend and I just got back from our first trip to NOLA and Kermit was a must see for us. This intimate little speakeasy is the perfect place for comfort food and good music. We had dinner while we waited for Kermit to show up (he was coming back from San Francisco and coming straight to the bar to play). They were out of a few of the specials like the rabbit stew and tamales but the red beans & rice, frog legs and chicken wings were all delicious and hit the spot on the chilly rainy night. After the show Kermit walked around and thanked people for being there and he was very friendly when we asked for a picture. This was a GREAT ending to our vacation.

Visiting from San Francisco, we were looking forward to hearing Kermit at his Speakeasy. The show was billed as Kermit and his band. We showed up over an hour early to get seats. A drummer, electric piano player and bass guitarist came on, the latter two being quite good. However, the drummer was obnoxiously loud, drowning out the other two instrumentalists and the various, not-exceptional singers who came and went from the stage. After enduring about two hours of this, the show seemed to be wrapping up, WITHOUT Kermit ever appearing! Talked to one of the women working there (his daughter, I believe - who was a very good singer) and she said he wasn't coming in tonight because he didn't feel well. Did anyone tell us this when we showed up and paid the cover charge?? So far in NOLA, the best, most professional music we've heard was Delfeayo Marsalis and his group at Snug Harbor. Also, some exceptional street musicians surpassed tonight's performance at Kermit's by miles. So be sure to ask if Kermit is playing that night before you pay the cover charge. If he's not, consider turning around and walking out.

My husband and I LOVE Kermit, we are his biggest Canadian fans!!! so it was a must to visit on our latest trip to New Orleans. Well, he did not disappoint! The food was delicious, the drinks icy cold, and the entertainment was number one. After his set, Kermit made sure that he thanked everyone and was gracious enough to pose with us for a photo. We are already planning our next visit and Kermit's Treme Speakeasy will once again top our list!

I encourage every lover of music to make this a must when in New Orleans. My party did not arrive early enough to partake of the amazing looking food... but the music and people (both performers and patrons) I found to be unmatched.

This is New Orleans, circa 2013. Sunday night at Kermit's Treme Speakeasy with Mr. Ruffin at the mic. This was my most memorable musical experience in New Orleans next to a 7th Ward 2nd Line parade. And you just feel the cultural richness of Treme by being there. This is an essential experience for anyone traveling to the Crescent City for music.

My husband and I absolutely loved this place! This is what we had been wanting to experience the entire time we were there. The people were very welcoming and the food (A+ on the frog legs & Creole tamales) & music were awesome. We arrived a bit early in order to get a table, which proved to be helpful info since we got one of the last tables towards the back. We end up sharing our table with another couple who happened to be regulars of the establishment. Since we went on the weekend before Christmas we were not only able to see and hear Kermit and his band but also Michael Baptiste (a relative of the couple that sat with us) and Trombone Shorty! Each of them were gracious with the patrons there and all had much respect for one another's musical performance. I would highly recommend this place that loves music and wants to get a better feel of what New Orleans has to offer besides just Bourban Street.
