Agree with all the reviews. It’s a must see memorial to Katrina victims, but it only takes a few minutes to take it in. The benches are black and burning hot so there is no where to sit and reflect. Combine it with a street car trip to city park or the museum. It’s worth visiting once.

Definitely worth a visit. A somber, but peaceful and beautiful place. I wished I had brought beads to lay down, as many others had. You can get here on the streetcar that runs down Canal St called Cemeteries.

Worth a stop on way in/out of town. Just takes a few minutes to look at the memorial. We felt safe in this area.

This was a somber and sobering memorial. The memorial itself is next door to a large cemetery. There is a large stone explaining that the tombs surrounding the memorial itself contain the remains of people who were never claimed in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. We counted 6 mausoleums housing 18 tombs each.

There really is not much here, but it is a fitting tribute to those whose lives were impacted or lost from the tragic event. Parking is available a short walk and there is an old cemetery next door that you can take in when you visit.

My daughter and I drove back to get a bette look at the memorial after seeing it as we visited the cemetery right beside the memorial. If you visit during a time of year when New Orleans isn’t as busy you can go around 5 pm or after and find parking and spend some time there. Definitely worth seeing!

We didn't spend more than a few minutes here, but it was a sobering reminder of how much Katrina affecting the gulf coast and New Orleans. We stopped here at the end of our "Katrina" self-guided tour and it closed up the day for our boys in a memorable way.

May we never forget those who lost their lives, and those who never found their way back to their families. Wonderful, solemn place to visit. Be aware this is a respectful place of rest for so many.

Recommend visiting the site with a tour to hear the history of not only Hurricane Katrina but the aftermath and the story behind the memorial. The amazing culture of this city was built and maintained by the people of New Orleans. It is pertinent to pay respect to those who lost their lives in this horrible event.

Near cemeteries. This is a simple memorial and not an explanation of what happened. Go to the museum or the open air levee explanation for the details.

Our daughter was a paramedic in Camer Parish and died after this in March and her name was turned to be on the memorial. How can we find out for sure

I hope I am connecting with staff from the Katrina Memorial as I would love background to share with my group. I am with a group of Presbyterians from North Central KS who will be making our 11th trip to New Orleans this year to help with rebuilding - some from our group came twice one year. Originally connected with the Presbytery of LA (you may have seen us in our blue shirts) we are now working under Project Homecoming, an organization still rooted in the Presbyterian Church. That being said, I can't believe we have not visited this memorial! I am responsible for our free night's activity and we have had some wonderful tours and experiences in New Orleans. Our plan is to visit the WWII museum this trip but, now that I am aware of your memorial, we will be there! Does the memorial have hours and is there an admission? How long would you estimate we need to view the exhibit...we do like to absorb ourselves. We love your city and have met and worked with some wonderful people, young volunteers who have now made New Orleans their home, families we have worked with to help them return to their homes and most recently new home construction for low income families. We always feel we gain more than we give. Your memorial will be a highlight for us. Thank you. Luann Miller, Concordia KS

We did not get to see this memorial as it was inside a cemetery (showing "closed"/after hours) with little to no parking around it. It is supposed to be a spiral/hurricane statue/memorial, but not a museum exhibit like we were thinking. Surprised to not find a Hurricane Katrina museum in the whole city!
