A great place to go at low tide. There are tide pools for the kids and wonderful views in all directions. The people that frequent the area are very nice and friendly. There are even some surfers there for a low break.
What really frosts me is the area adjacent to it. It is a mile-long pristine beach that is postcard perfect: clean gentle slope to the water with little driftwood. But it is Private! I imagine a pile of money went under the table to secure that. You can pay to visit.

If you are interested in tidal pools, this may be one of the most spectacular. On the road from Port Townsend to Port Angeles, this is a hidden attraction, mainly a tv campground rec area during most of the day. But hit this at low tide and the slippery but marvelously rich tidal pools and bird watching experiences are spectacular! Walk past the parking lot to the right, climb down the rocks, and be AMAZED. Well worth your time!

We picnicked at this park and had a wonderful time! Definitely want to make sure to visit during the low tides to access the beaches and tide pools. Wonderful scenery and we saw several deer while we were there. You can stay in an RV or tent as well. Wonderful place to visit!

This beach has some tide pools you can access when the tide is right. There are several places with tables and a playground for children. If the tide doesn't cooperate, there isn't a lot to do because you need to walk down stairs to get to the rocks.

So this is one of the top campsites we have ever visited and with many first come first serve sites we lucked out this past weekend getting a spot. The views, tide pools, and interesting military history all made for a great time. Sunsets were amazing and the last night saw a whale heading out to sea in the middle of the strait.
Only downside was the bathrooms on a busy weekend weren’t regularly attended and especially bad was the vault toilet at the far end of the campsite which didn’t have the trash emptied for a few days.
That was the only negative and would highly recommend this campground.

Definitely a place to visit during low tide. The tide pools were amazing. We arrived on an unexpectedly warm May Day, the crowds were abundant but so were the Tide pools. A great first day entering the Olympic National Park.

There are trash that are left everywhere by people who come here. Slippery rocks littered with plastic.

I have been going to Salt Creek for 5 years. It's a great site. The campers are peaceful. It's clean -- or at least was until this year. The bathrooms, except for the vault toilet, are fine. The big rig sites in the open may be fine. But all 3 of the smaller sites in the trees that I looked at had litter. Including an abandoned sock at one. Sad to see.

We spent in this campground two nights . Our campsite was great with nice view to the ocean. At low tide we were at Tongue Point. There are stairs to the shore. Toilets and coin operated shower with hot water was clean. Watch out for the racoon.
Really nice campground.

Beautiful views and fun place to visit. Short drive from Port Angeles on mostly good roads. Parking can be an issue.

If I have a 19 foot van (we sleep inside) with no generator can I camp in the tent area?

How early should we arrive to get a first come/first served campsite on a Friday or Saturday? Is getting a first come site on a Saturday extremely unlikely vs. Friday?

The campground was closed when we were there

I have a 32 foot class c motor home and don’t necessarily need electrical hookups. Would the standard sites accommodate my rig? I would love a site with a water view.
Rédigé le 12 juillet 2019
i doubt you would fit in a tent site. the rv sites i saw all had water views.

Do you think we could set two media tents at site #55, #30 or #31? It is hard to tell from the website description. Thanks!

I'm not sure, You may want to call Parks Department there. They have spaces that are only reserved a d some first come first serve.

Can I have a fire on the beach near crescent beach? My mom recently passed away and I want to light a fire while having a very small gathering of friends and family
Rédigé le 31 août 2017
Hello amysomday,
No fires are allowed on the beach at Salt Creek Recreation Area, or any of the Clallam County Parks beaches, at any time throughout the year.
There is a privately owned park west of Salt Creek called Crescent Beach RV Park. The burn ban normally ends on October 1st. You could try calling the RV Park to see if they would allow a fire on their beach. You would probably have to pay a fee for use of their beach.
Thank you for asking about the fire before visiting the park. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact the park directly or the Clallam County Parks office in Port Angeles.

What are the best times to arrive to ensure getting a good campsite and avoiding large crowds? Do you think it would be better to arrive a Friday afternoon or a Saturday/Sunday night or morning? Also, which campsites have the most privacy and are closest to the water?

I was there in the winter & wasn't camping so I have no idea- sorry

I am just so excited to be coming to a whole different hemisphere ... are there any apps that we can download to help identify birdlife, creatures in the rock pools, etc and should we have a particular US or Canadian Sim card?
Rédigé le 3 mars 2017
iBird pro and audubon have very good apps for bird identification.

Hi. We are planning to tent camp (fairly long large family tent) with three toddlers. Good kids... reaponsible parents, but I'm still worried about camping on the "bluff". Is it a sharp drop off? Is the drop off fenced in? We are hoping for a killer view, some privacy, safety for the kids, close to water spicket and restroom, and somewhere that would possibly be less wet and/or could dry out easier after the rain if we end up being there during a yucky week. What camp sites can you recommend? Would you recommend getting an rv site for our tent or would that not work? So many questions! So excited to make the most of this trip! Thanks!
Rédigé le 20 février 2017
Hello Bonney Lake,
The previous responses all have excellent comments and suggestions.
The bluff is fenced along the entire length. The bluff height ranges from about 15' - 20' at site # 67 to 35' - 40' at sites # 53 & 54.
As for the site choice, it is not possible at Salt Creek Recreation Area to have all of the criteria you've outlined - privacy, close to water faucet and restrooms, and open to the sun or free of dripping trees. There are camper favorites for various reasons - # 56 and 58 are more private, close to the water, and large enough for a big tent. #52 is large and private. Finding a site that will handle your sized tent will be critical. As someone mentioned there are many first-come,first-serve sites large enough for your tent, but don't necessarily have the privacy of others. Sites # 40 - 49 are for tents only. Sites # 69, 70, and 74 - 92 are relatively close to the restroom, away from the bluff, and many can fit your tent.
Should you make a reservation at the park and arrive at the park to find a first-come, first-serve site you'd rather have, you're welcome to change sites. We ask that you notify park staff and/or a camp host of the move.
I would not recommend getting an RV site, unless you wish to place the tent on the asphalt parking pad. Only # 16 (Utility Site) can fit a large tent on the grass.
Thank you for your inquiries of Salt Creek Recreation Area and Clallam County Parks. We hope you enjoy your stay at the park.
