El Presidio Park was part of the El Presidio. He was in charge.

Starting at the City Hall, we start to learn about the Presidio who was in charge.

There were several important people:

Teodore Ramirez 1791-1871

Christopher Layton 1821-1898

The Mormon Battalion

The park has lots of Mexican items and statues.

I learned a lot here.

Walking at this park will help you to know who was Teodore Ramirez.

Wonderful art gallery and miscellaneous items in the heart of Tucson. Since most people were at the Gem and Mineral Show, so not crowded. Nice cafe next door for a beer and sandwich. Nice walk from the parking ramp. Recommend

I am not sure that all these previous reviews belong here, as this is the large 2.75 acre Plaza/Park located downtown between City Hall and the Pima County Courthouse. There are so many "Presidios" everywhere that it can get confusing. The name of this park is "El Presidio Park/Sunset Park".

This was my third time doing jury duty in Tucson, and this is the third time, I spent the lunch hour stretching my legs, and walking around this plaza. In the summer, I am sure it can be unbearably hot, but on lovely days, it's very enjoyable here. No skateboards allowed, so it's quiet, and relaxing. There are people reading or eating their bag lunch here, as there are many convenient seating areas, benches and tables. The landscaping is attractive, and there are nice shady spots.

When one walks around, one comes up to all sorts of history and art items. The Vietnam Memorial Wall is here. There you will find the names of the 616 Arizona servicemen who lost their lives in that war. There is a "Battle of the Bulge" monument, and a small rose garden where the bust of John F. Kennedy stands on a pedestal. Unfortunately, the interesting very large fountain does not work, at least I have never seen any water there. The large bronze sculpture of the "Mormon Battalion" (who were the first to plant the American flag in this area in 1846) provides lots of information, but nowhere could I find the name of the sculptor. The same for some of the other art pieces. There should be a plaque giving credit where credit is due. The 1987 sculpture of a "Leatherjacketed Presidio Soldier" by sculptor Buck McCain is another interesting statue.

If one is downtown, or has business at the Courthouse, this Plaza offers a nice little respite. If you like visiting statues and monuments (we do), this Park is very close to the Museum of Art, and could be combined in one visit.

There are many different historical monuments to see in this area and it allows for a peaceful break from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. It is also a park with a lot of shade to help beat the Tucson heat in the summer. There are also many historical and cultural museums and attractions nearby to make the trip extra special.

Surrounded by modern buildings sits the remnants of an ancient fort. A true look at how far we have come from such difficult times. We had a very knowledgeable guide that gave a great view of how people lived 200+ years ago.

I think my biggest disappointment was hoping to see the fort and all you see is rocks where the fort used to be. Not ruins, rocks that someone place to show the outline. However, there are still some sites to see here.

The reenactments and the people who told about life in the days when El Presido Park was inhabited was very interesting. My grandsons thoroughly enjoyed it when the cannon was shot off!

I had never been to this tiny gem of a park! I had heard about El Tiradito before and I had to visit. It's a beautiful, serene place for folks to pray and wish for healing for their broken heart. It's easy to miss, but VERY worth the visit! Be sure to write your hopes and prayers on a paper and place it in a hole in the wall. Maybe they will be answered by 'The Outcast'!

After living in Tucson, Arizona over 20 years, my wife and I stumbled into a very neat little piece of history.
While attending to business downtown in the government offices, we were headed back to our vehicle parked in the Lohse YMCA parking facility on Alameda Street.
As we looked to cross the street (Church Ave) we noticed a walkway leading into a time line of Tucson. Following the trail, we turned into a plaza inside an old adobe wall to find the El Presidio Park and interesting plaques explaining this area's significance throughout the city's history.
Cool, even in July, due to overhanging roofs and the thick, adobe block walls. seems people of this region knew how to deal with the 'dry heat' long before the advent of air-conditioning.

We walked to the Presidio area from where we were staying at Hotel Arizona. It was very hot so the cool shady garden that the cafe is set in was nice. There are also artisan shops surrounding the area with quality art and craft. It is definitely worth visiting while in Tucson.
