Took this as our first hike into the Arizona wild after arriving for a multi-month stay in Tucson. It was listed as one of the shorter dog friendly hikes in the area. We have an older / flat lander dog that this was probably a little more than we should have bit off for a first trail. It is steep, rocky and narrow with lots of cactus growth. Trail is not well marked as you head down into canyon, so on the way back up we got off the main trail by accident and had to pick out way back onto the route. Beautiful canyon and a beautiful drive up that was undergoing a lot of construction work, so you had to follow a lead car up the dirt road while we were there. I would do this hike again, but probably not bring the older dog.

This is a nice trail down to the falls. We don't hike much and this was not too long or difficult for us. The area down by the falls is beauriful and really nice for a picnic or just to sit and visit.
Even though there was quite a bit of rain a couple of days ago, it's fall and so the falls are pretty dry. I'm sure this is even more impressive in the spring. A great hike for beginners with great views.

My husband and I visited Tanque Verde Falls on a last-minute stop to Tuscon as part of a hiking trip in the southwest. The trail was very lightly trafficked. We only saw a few other hikers while we were there. It's a steady incline down to the falls and back up; well marked and easy to follow. On the way back up, we followed some little paths away from the main trail and were able to scramble rocks for more of a challenge on the way back up. It was a great trail for seeing the cacti and the water at the bottom. There was a rock we scrambled to on the way up where we were able to sit and enjoy the view of the valley. There was parking right across from the trailhead. I'd definitely recommend this trail if you're in the area!

We followed the Tanque verde Canyon Ravine. We were looking for flowers. They were beautiful!

We also enjoyed the cacti. There are many of them. Beautiful! Ocotillos and saguaros.

We found a waterfall and sand as well.

There was a lot of water. Wow!

We were surrounded by mountains.

A must see. Many people enjoyed the water and sand.

I wished I could stay here all the day!

This is not too long of a trail, nothing crazy.
We went the early part of February and there was some water going over the rocks.
A very pretty area, and the rocks at water level are super smooth, careful on your footing, easy to slip.

My family and I love the falls. We hike it when the water is running so that the dogs can swim during the hot days of summer. I live 30 mins away and I experience total freedom. However, if you find nudity to be offensive it's best to go somewhere else, you never know who you are going to run into. I can't wait to go back again.

Beautiful day and scenery. We were hoping to see more water, really just a small trickle this time. I would definitely come back, walking sticks would be a plus to have. The trail is not marked so make sure you note your surroundings when descending, so you know where to return to the trail on the way back up. We were able to call out to some fellow hikers who missed the turn to go back up.

If you aren’t at least moderately fit then don’t try this. You can get down to the canyon easy but to walk along to the falls is tough. In places you have to climb, jump down and have to watch your stepping at all times. A couple of places we had to cross across the water. Take shoes that can get wet and lots of fluid.
I would say this is at least moderate as a hike. It took us 3 hours with some time spent in the water.
The fall wasn’t that impressive due to the lack of rainfall/water. Although so worth it. The sights on the way are unbelievable and really breathtaking!

For the normal hiker BEWARE. The allure of water in the desert is enticing but extremely dangerous to get to. Take the lower trail. It is safer, but unless you have plenty of water and a couple of hours to spare, in good shape, have the right clothes on, don't mind climbing up slick rocks, YOU WILL NOT GET TO THE FALLS! Its beautiful in the canyon, the trail is easy, but once in the canyon beware. Flash floods occur within seconds. Look around. Know your surroundings. Did it rain in the last 24 hours on the mountains to the North and East? If so DO NOT ENTER THE CANYON. HAVE A EMERGENCY PLAN. 33 people have died here and counting. Thousands injured and many airlifted out. This is a wilderness area.

I decided to take Sunday off from my work and find this place. After some great intel from a new friend, I knew where I was going now. The drive requires a non-sports car. It is paved until Tanque Verde road ends and turns into Reddington Pass. From there, there may be ruts or large rocks which will cause your low-to-the-ground car to bottom out.

Anyway, the area is beautiful. You'll see aloe, cactus, rocks, huge rocks, and a typical dessert landscape. I parked at the second trail head then walked. MAKE SURE you take plenty of water!!

After a brief walk, the trail along the river became sandy in places but VERY rocky in other places. By this I mean you'll need to carefully walk from boulder to boulder to move along the path. After some time I came to a very nice waterfall. It was really beautiful. I laid out my towel and took off my shirt, and laid back on my backpack to soak in the beautiful sun. It was about 80 degrees that day. The mist in the air from the water cooled me perfectly.

Now, I have read many reports of people hiking to this area to sun bathe naked Despite how I would have joined in, I saw no one there naked. Perhaps I was in the wrong place, but nonetheless, I had a good time even though I was in shorts. If there is some other path for this there, please message me.

On my trek out I took the path to the third trail head. It was a lot easier than walking back down the way I came in. Do not get stuck here at dusk. You won't be able to find your way out. Its always better to travel in pairs, anyway. There are NO services anywhere. This means no Starbucks and no toilets!

If you found this review helpful, let me know below.
Thanks,
Dave
