Very interesting museum for anyone, but especially for those with firefighters in the family. There are interactive exhibits for children. There is a lot of history for the adults. It was a fun experience and you can spend as much or as little time as you wish and still have a good time.

Fun for kids and adults! Lots for the history lover and fun for kids with a small house to go through, fire Engine to explore and slide down the fireman’s pole and ring the bell! Grandpa, mom, dad and kids approved!

He loved this museum. Had a video on the lower level of Sesame Street characters on how to handle a fire. He liked the fire truck you could sit in!

Interesting history on a topic you don’t often think of. It was fascinating to learn the role Cincinnati has played in the field of fire fighting. The museum is on two floors, but I believe there is an elevator if you need it.
We spent a little over an hour here. There are some informative movies that are worth a watch.

Very nice smaller museum. Staff there were very friendly and informative. My husband was a firefighter for many years and enjoyed all the equipment from the past.

Our visit probably didn't start off great, the unwelcoming - welcome didn't go great.
It was a " ok what are you doing here " kind of welcome. We didn't know where to check in/ buy tickets.
The ladies tone never became friendly nor told us anything about the place.
We wondered around on our own.
Neat place to read about history of fire fighting. Has a pole for kids to slide down.
It seems to a place for teens who want to be fire fighters and learn or a place for current/ retired fire fighters. Not a place for 10 and under, you will be there maybe ,45 mins Max.
My suggestion, visit your local fire station. Your kid will see more, have more hands on and I am sure a much more inviting environment.

Cincinnati is home of the very first professional fire department in the nation. Great displays and a staff that is more than willing to educate you. This is one place I'd suggest bringing children old enough to appreciate it.

All things CFD are here! the price is low and the wow fact is high! For being a small non-city funded museum, this place packs a punch! The docents love kids and welcome questions from adults, too! Slide down the pole and see the hhow Cincinnati becasme the 1st City Fire Dept. in the US!

There is much to see and learn at a low cost! Children loved it but it didn’t take any more than an hour for the visit.

With the boy out of school, and I with a rare day off, the rainy day hampered a planned hike around the lake but not a hike around a local museum, or two. Making our way North of the river, we located the Cincinnati Fire Museum and parked on Court street. There appeared to be some pay lots close by, but as it was raining, I opted for the street.
I had not even heard of the museum until recently when I was researching another museum and this one popped up. We both agreed it was worth a look.
The museum is housed in the old Engine Company 45 Fire house where it’s been located since the early 80s. The admission cost for the 2 of us came to $12, Later, with some checking around I discovered I could have reduced that by using groupon. However, this was a spur of the moment decision. Besides, even the small museums have bills to pay. But check groupon as it may save you a few extra dollars.
We discussed the layout and best way to tour the museum with the only staff member present, then headed for the lower level where we began our tour. I thoroughly enjoyed the several sections of hallway covered with fire department badges from around the country. Also, on the lower level, there is also a “home” mock-up promoting the various fire safety techniques for your own residence.
The several hours we were visiting we had the entire museum to ourselves and thoroughly enjoyed our own self-guided tour.
There is a lot to see and do for a smaller museum. Some of the exhibits date back to the very early days of firefighting in Cincinnati. My son, of course was immediately drawn to the fireman’s pole which he proceeded to use no less than a dozen times. There were several other hands on exhibits that we both enjoyed trying out as well.
I grew up watching the TV show “Emergency” so our visit was really a trip down memory lane for me in the modern section. I was amazed at the “technology” of the time period; from the ubiquitous fireman’s life net to the industrial sized Rolodex. Today, with computers and GPS we forget just how difficult it was to locate a house just 40 years ago.
The museum is smaller compared to Union Terminal, but contains a wealth of exhibits and knowledge regarding local firefighting history. It does close early, so check the hours before planning your visit. We also noticed the facility is available for birthdays, parties and other corporate events. I even learned several weddings were held there. There is also a small gift shop on site with plenty of firefighter themed wares.
We immensely enjoyed father/son outing there and we will keep it in our rotation of places we like to visit from time to time.

I am a Cub Scout den leader. I will be bringing my den to visit on Weds. the 24th of this month. We were wondering if we are allowed to pack lunches for the boys to bring in? If so, is there a designated area to sit and eat? We were also curious about how long it takes to walk through the museum. We'll have approx. 7 boys and 7 adults.

I don't recall seeing a "designated area" for lunch. I would suggest contacting them through their website>Plan a Visit>Educators and asking them directly. They do offer birthday parties, so food is permitted.
I would allow 2 hours. That will be enough time to see the museum and play with the hands on exhibits they offer for that age group.
