We truly enjoy the elegant and delicious wines of Montalcino, and those from San Filippo are our favorite. Exquisitely balanced and immensely satisfying.
Be sure to schedule a tasting with Thomas, the very personable and talented winemaker of San Filippo.
The estate itself is lovely, the apartments well-appointed, and the pool is delightful. We come back to taste the new vintages every year, and we’ll be back next year for sure!

Spent two nights at San Filippo on June 2018 during our family road trip through Tuscany. We chose it due to its proximity to Montalcino but also been a bit out of the way and private. We found it on Airbnb and loved the place. For some reason there was no one else staying in the other apartments while we were there so we experienced total peacefulness and privacy. The estate has the old architecture of the region but the apartments interiors are very modern, clean and well stocked with two bedrooms and one bath, good for a family of 4. The pool is quite nice too and the views of the vineyards and the country side just add the the beauty of the place. Unforgettable experience. Will definable stay here again

An oasis a stones throw away from the beautiful town of Montalcino and amongst all that Brunello, not to forget the superb Rosso's. The Estate was superbly run and all were extremely accommodating assisting to ensure we had the most relaxing of times. Excellent open accommodation, spotlessly clean with Terrace overlooking the stunning pool and vineyards in the distance. Could not have asked for more, all worked well for us with brilliant weather, lounging by the peaceful pool and dining well in Montalcino and surrounding towns and villages. Great food as anticipated in Tuscany and as a fan of Sangiovese and Brunello an ideal location to explore. So pleased we stayed for the full 7 days !

Uma excêntrica experiência no interior da Toscana. Quartos enormes e limpos. Lugar com poucos hóspedes e vistas incríveis. Parece que vc está hospedado na casa de parentes. Ambiente bucólico. Vale a pena conhecer. Acomodações excelentes. Mas lembre-se : os serviços não são iguais a de um hotel ( nesse caso o q é até melhor ).

A little gem surrounded by wineries, we're so glad to have invested 7 nights in this blissful retreat. The hostess, Bridget was more than just an inn-keeper, this super efficient and remarkably energetic lady is also the official wine maker of the San Filippo wines! The location is second to none, despite the seclusion , you're just a short drive to Montalcino and all the neighbouring villages.
A few days prior to your arrival, you'd probably hear from Bridget through ( What's app ), yup, she's also quite IT savvy! She would ask for your time of arrival and make necessary arrangements to meet you in person during your arrival. A basket of organic cookies and crisps readily available in your apartment as welcome gesture and a chilled bottle of water in the fridge. We opted for the 2-bedroom apartment which is located on an upper floor just above the wine tasting room. The space was sufficient for our family of 3. A baby cot readily set up in the second bedroom, towels and toiletries neatly placed awaiting our arrival. The apartment is fully furnished, rustic and cosy. Kitchen has sufficient utensils to make a simple Italian meal, and an oversized window to let in the breeze with peaceful sights of the woods. The two bedrooms are almost similar in size, not too spacious but more than enough storage for us. Comfortable beds and each bedroom has huge windows overlooking the winery's compound or your own balcony. We were so lucky to have a huge private balcony with a small dining table and some chairs, we spent hours sitting there enjoying the breeze and the marvellous views of the Val D'Orcia plains. You'll have a Nespresso coffee machine and a selection of coffee pods, a dish washer with washing tablets ( thank God for that!) and a brand new washing machine in the laundry room where my wife enjoyed spending some much time doing laundry and ironing. The large swimming pool has a beautiful view of the winery next door. There were enough deck chairs for all the occupants of the apartments, a gazebo with a large dining table and a BBQ area which was pretty well-used by the other occupants during our stay.
The entire compound of Tenuta San Filippo is so well-kept, this is just not the regular apartment stay, it was more like an upmarket villa retreat. And don't worry if you run out of wines, just run to Bridget and sample her remarkable Rosso di Montalcino and Brunellos, buy a few bottles to take home with you, you will not regret it! Bridget also conducts wine tours and wine tasting sessions. Bridget does everything, she was like the one-stop centre for all your travelling needs!
Back to the location of this retreat. A drive to Montalcino will probably take you 5-7mins. The nearest convenient store is the Coop in Montalcino. During the weekdays, you will also find quaint little bakery, butchery, grocers in the centre of the village.
Good restaurants are aplenty in Montalcino, but we've only dined here twice, once is a smart joint called Drogheria Franci, with an impressive wine cellar and fancy menus, and our last night in Osteria di Porta al Cassero, a very cosy, homely atmosphere serving hearty authentic Italian cuisine. If you fancy dining elsewhere, the little charming village of San Angelo in Colle ( 20 mins drive from Tenuta San Filippo ) is a good option with two very good restaurants , IL Pozzo and IL Leccio. Siena is about 55mins drive from San Filippo, Pienza 30mins, Montepulciano 45mins, the Thermal town of Bagno Vignoni 26mins, and the famous San Antimo church- 20 mins. No matter what, the easiest way to navigate and enjoy Val D'Orcia to the fullest is to drive!
We have beautiful memories in Tenuta San Filippo and we hope to make another trip there soon!
