Great fort to see if you are a fort lover, try visiting in the morning or in the evening to avoid humidity, also carry a binocular for a good sea view.

Breathtaking views of the Arabian Sea from the ramparts of this 12th century fort. The fort in itself is devoid of any other attractions inside it, except the Bhagavati Devi mandir. However the walk along the perimeter of the fort is worth spending an hour. The view of the sea changes from a calm, clear blue expanse to waves crashing with force on the cliffs.

This fort is located on a mountain and provides a spectacular view of the city. It is surrounded by the Arabian sea on three sides. There is an old temple inside and no other structure. Just before the temple, there is a viewpoint which is worth stopping. There is no entry ticket for this place.

The importance and layout of the fort should be brought out by sketch or pamphlet at the entry which is not done. Could understand the layout only by referrin to internet. Not a tourist friendly place at all.

This fort is high on a mountain but when you reach there you will have no regrets as the place will refresh your soul. Go during the evenings as it is very hot.

The drive to fort is a little bit tricky and narrow road from main city . The fort offers great views of sea and sunset . Not much else to see on fort other than one temple since the fort condition is very old and all structures inside it are in broken down state with vegetation grown inside . you can just walk around the fortification wall of fort for the sea view

Situated in Ratnagiri , the fort is easily accessible and has a green walk way around it . Just walk around it to get great views of the Sea.

ideal time to visit this fort is in winter. It has a Bhagvati Mandir . Also you can do a round on the fort ( peripheral walk ) so that you can have nice view of the beach from top. No food ,water is available on fort . Vehicle can go at the base of the fort and not many steps to climb. Must see historical fort.Timing of visit is from 8 am to 5 pm and no entry fee. Free parking at the base is available.

Good half an hour go around, not much of climbing steps, just boundary wall with watch points. Provides good view of city water front including jetty and motor boats place.

One can drive till the doors of the fort. There is a temple inside. One can walk on the perimeter wall. The views are great. At a minimum it takes 20-30 mins walking around the perimeter wall and visiting the temple. But the fort is much vast and were a guide available, one could explore more. There are no guides though.

Yes, you may visit at at any time during the whole year because it is situated at very height and around five kms. from RATNAGIRI RAILWAY STATION and you may hire taxi or auto riksha from railway station as per choice and number of passengers.
Is it a summer friendly place?and have heard that one has to swim in order to go inside the fort -do we get guides over there.

Well not really a summer friendly place but there are a few places where there are shades which can be used to take a rest. In addition just outside the fort there is a hotel which serves beverages, it can help you survive summer. Secondly, you need not swim to enter the fort. The fort is well connected with a road where 2wheelers as well as 4 wheeler can reach. When I visited there was no guide but according to me there is no need of guide there.

Hi, Just take a train to Ratnagiri or an overnight bus or rent a car. There are many hotels in Ratnagiri. Ask the reception guy or any local, they will guide you to the tourist spots. Dont need any tour agent for this.
There is also are many Mumbai based groups which also organise excursions. Like Shikhar Vedh (Jagdish Patil) : 9869369836 / 9702121373 or Sunetra Ambekar (bungalow on rent) : 9869536488 / 9167766631. Give them reference of Manasi S.

The distance is not very much. Should be a 15 minutes ride from the station.

We stayed at Hotel Sea Fans Mandovi Beach. For travel from Ratnagiri station to the Hotel we paid a flat rate of Rs 150 by auto - it should be about 4-5 km. From the Hotel we could see the light house - about 2 km away. That means from Ratnagiri station it should be about 7 km. If you are coming from Ganapati Pule it should be 25 - 30 km as Manee997 has said
