Stunning worldclass snorkelling location. Beyond belief the Qld gov allow fishing at the wrecks, allowing cowboys to trawl through snorkellers with their lures at six+ knots. Beyond that 20th century stupidity, the fish life and viewing is worth the visit. Suggest take own gear (fins essential) and swim out (about 80 strokes) and spend some time with schools of fish, bigger fish and turtles. Tide can be strong but I’m old, unfit and not a good swimmer but didn’t have a problem.

See my review of Morton Island.
We signed up for snorkeling tour on the mainland and it was a total waste of time and money.
99% of the people have no idea how to snorkel. The tour itself in the water was only 30 minutes because it took literally three hours of getting everybody ready to go, getting into the boat, getting out of the boat, getting everybody prepped, and then trying to get everybody dried off and showered to get back to the boat.
When we got to the island, we had no time to do anything other than go straight to the shop where we had to do all kinds of prep stuff to get ready to go snorkeling. What was stated on the tour and what really happened were entirely different.
Once we got back to shore, there is really no place to shower or change. There are some showers outside, so I had to shower outside on the grass in my bathing suit and then put my clothes on underneath my towel. My wife went into the tiny, dirty, gross bathroom And rinsed off and changed in there.
Once we changed, the restaurants were all closed so we could not even use our food voucher except for one small place that pretty much ran out of all of its food so I just had to grab junk food and usually vouchers that we were given.
The wrecks itself were OK to see, but it was quite surgey and with all the inexperienced people it was not a pleasant experience

Wrecks were absolutely incredible. They can be a little difficult to navigate if you are not a strong swimmer but the water is generally calm in the wrecks. We saw an incredible amount of fish, ex butterflyfish, pufferfish, anglefish, surgeonfish, etc. Also saw large wobbegong shark which was definitely the highlight for us. Highly recommend snorkelling the wrecks.

The wrecks have signs on them warning people there is Asbestos on/in the wrecks and possibly in the water.
No one tells anyone about this before you get to the wrecks, the Queensland Health Department need to take some action about this.

The snorkeling tour we booked was a rip-off. One hour of introduction. 60 people on the tour and 20 minutes in the water. Because of the many people, you couldn't see much except for the fins of the person in front of you.
It doesn't help when the tour guide points to an air bubble and says that's the turtles.
Really pretty bad

Went snorkeling the wrecks, was very nervous as not a confident swimmer. Spoke to guide before hand and she put my mind at ease. She had a ring which I held into which ment I felt safe. A lovely atmosphere and group of guides who catered for everyones capabilities. Inga our group leader was amazing, told us all about wrecks and fish we were seeing. A true asset to Tanglalooma resort. I could not recommend highly enough. Something I never though is be capable of doing made special by an amazing group of young people.

We seemed to spend most of the day waiting to get the boat to Tangalooma, A quick lunch ,then waiting to check in to the snorkeling tour, then fill out waivers ,get kitted out, and wait for 40 other people to do the same.
Then have a long winded safety “ briefing “…..then get get out to the wrecks.0900 to 2pm.

Time wasted because one customer couldn’t snorkel, wouldn’t get back in the boat, needed individual supervision by our guide, then eventually went back to the boat.

The guide raced around the wrecks so fast we could barely keep up,and after a total of about 30 minutes in the water we were back on the boat. Then a free hour and had to queue for the boat back to the Brisbane terminal
An exhausting and expensive day for 30 minutes snorkeling…so disappointing
However, what I did see of the wrecks and marine life I enjoyed very much

The Tangalooma wrecks are a great snorkelling experience. Having said this, there are strong currents which can be difficult for even strong swimmers and those with flippers. We went initially on a tour and chose a time when they advised the current would not be as strong for our children. They provide a wetsuit, flippers and snorkels. My husband went back by himself the next day after he monitored the current and found it to be an enjoyable experience. However, earlier that day we saw many swimmers and paddlers get quickly swept sideways along the beach as a result of the current. Great experience but not recommended for poor swimmers.

Awesome snorkelling area about a 300m walk from the resort. Lots of sealife to see in the crystal clear waters. Easy swim out from the beach if you've got flippers on, and are a medium fitness level and swim level (there is a current). Suitable for older kids or teens. A must do if you're on Moreton Island.
