We a bunch of friends visited Lake Sevan around sunset, so we were able to enjoy the very beautiful orange sky while we were there.

Went to the lake by minibus with a tour. You have to go up some steps to get to the churches but the view to the lake is great. There are also a few restaurants and souvenirs.

This lake is 1900 metres above sea level. We travelled from Yerevan by car with a private guide. It is a popular holiday destination for people from the capital, but there are also many sanatoriums. We climbed up many stairs to Sevanavank Monastery, an important historical site. I liked the panorama best. It is well worth a visit.

This is totally worth the time to visit. The scenery of the lake as viewed from the Sevanavank monasteries is just breathtaking. Pictures just don’t do any justice to the beauty of Lake Sevan and its surroundings.

This is the largest lake in the Caucasus and an interesting location, with two churches located on top of the hill. Several recreational activities can be taken along the lake. Boat tours also available, although do not seem to really be essential.

This trip happened at the beginning of May 2024. The impressions are fresh and every day it becomes less and less believed that this happened to us))😌 (Big things are seen from a distance)). Mountains of Armenia, People of Armenia, great water of Armenia. Medieval cemeteries and ancient monasteries. And, as the heart of the trip, a family cheese factory with a long history and a magical tasting of homemade cheeses, meats and sausages. This whole trip is a complete surprise gift 🧚♀️ magic in short 🤗 We didn’t want to go to Sevan by a big bus. We wanted a guide, but in all countries we prefer local guides to tripsters. Local residents in the center of Yerevan, with whom we became friends, advised us, as it turned out later, to be a first-class guide with a comfortable minibus - Samvel Tsaturyan. (I didn’t find him on Instagram for some reason, but he’s on Facebook). Thanks to him, everything was as it was, and it was wonderful ❤️ intelligent, deep presentation of very important milestones in the history of all of Armenia and the lake and its surroundings in particular. But without being too academic: we learned a lot of interesting things, including fun and heartfelt things about the houses we passed through, traditions, customs and the people living in them. Only a good friend who is “from here” can tell this. Who knows all this from the inside, who doesn’t “practice a training manual,” but wants you to fall in love with Armenia as much as he loves it. We fell in love! Then Echmiadin, Noravank, Tatev happened. In general, Armenia ❤️ forever)) And Sevan is one of its marvelous wonders 🤗

I want to divide my impressions of the lake into two parts: 1 - nature, and it is gorgeous, 2 - infrastructure, and the feeling that after the collapse of the USSR little was invested in it.
I'll start with nature. This alpine lake is the largest freshwater lake in the Caucasus. Around the forest, nearby monasteries included in the UNESCO list, gorgeous views. The climate is excellent, even in August there is no scorching heat here. The waters of the lake are home to trout, which are now endangered.
And now the infrastructure. The coastline is not wide, there are paid and free beaches, but they are not very different and are very dirty. The equipment, especially for changing clothes, is antediluvian; sunbeds in August 2023 cost 2000 drams. The beach has water activities and a cafe. The beach and entrance to the water are stones. On weekends there are a lot of local residents, “there’s nowhere for an apple to fall.”

Most visitors will see Lake Sevan from Sevanavank, which gives you the height for panoramic views. The lake is of enormous importance to Armenia, both historically symbolic and economic. It covers one 6th of the country and sits elevated at nearly 2km above sea level. It provides Armenia with drinking & irrigation water, electricity, tourism and a plethora of delicious fish.
As one of the three original Armenian lakes - the only one still within Armenian territory ! - and the home of Sevanavank, it remains a very special place for Armenians (who, in general, can hold very nationalistic views).

The colors of the water are beautiful. Shades of green. Green, green/turquoise, olive green, deep green, green/light blue. A show.

A pond of fabulous beauty. I never thought that water could be such a rich azure color as in the pictures on the Internet. Nature is luxurious.
For tourists, this place is still poorly developed. Decent 3-star hotels cost from 120 euros per night in August. The beaches in the city of Sevan and the surrounding area are undeveloped, the entrance to the water is rocky, you cannot swim without shoes. Paid beaches are not much different from free ones in terms of quality and cleanliness. There is almost no sand anywhere in the city of Sevan and its surroundings, there are stones everywhere, pebbles in the water.
There are few cafes and restaurants, since the choice is small, you have to take what you have. There is a huge shortage of strong conceptual establishments from Yerevan.
There are a lot of abandoned buildings on the shore, unfinished buildings, etc.
I really hope that the Russians who moved here will bring money, civilization, and concern for the environment here, and this place will flourish
