Mount Eglon has many villages dotted throughout the area and is a rich agricultural area with Sipi falls as its main attraction. There are a number of Lodges in the Sipi area for stays many of which have glorious views of the surrounding countryside.

Hahaa, I call it the volcanic experience why, mostly because we all knew is a dormant one, but could not be sure if we would hike up before we erupted into ashes. Great we did not

We did a 5 days trekking using the Piswa trail.
The advantage of this trail is the high altitude of the trailhead Kapkwata.
Another advantage is that you don't use the Sasa trail twice ( ascending and descending ).
We ( 57 and 56) consider the Sasa trail a bit to steep to enjoy twice.
Piswa trail was managable.
The journey was a real joy.
We arranged everything at the HQ of the Mount Elgon NP in Mbale.
We paid there for the entrance and guide , went shopping and took the matatu to Kapchorwa and Kapkwata.
The resthouse in Kapkwata turned out to be full of foretry workers.
We were lucky to carry our own tent. The ranger at the resthouse was friendly and provided a simple meal.and tea in the morning.
HQ had indeed arranged a guide, a cok and 2 porters ( to be paid by us)
They all took good care of us.
A warm sleeping bag is necessary and a tent as well using this trail as at piswa patrol camp there is nno accomodation and hunter's cave camp is only a protruding piece of rock.
Atude cave camp and sasa river camp.shelters with beds ( no matrasses) are available.
In novmber the tracks are well accessible and many flowers are blossoming
A great hike !

I always visit this place on most Tuesday's of the week while attending Rotary fellowships and indeed this hotel offers a great experience of service to clients. It has a great lounge and bar area. I love the welcome sights of Bugisu Arabica Coffee place in the shelves at the entrance.

Hiking the mountain was my first ever more than a days hike, I booked through a tours agency, the experience was a tiring but memorable one. Try the activity if you love hiking
