Almost all the reviews of this place quite rightly say what a wonderful place and experience it is.
This was my third visit and this time it did not get the 5 star review it deserves and for one simple reason.
Heaney is an Irish poet who wrote in ENGLISH. Every one of his works is in English; he himself reads them in English; his most important work of reference was the complete multi volume set of the Oxford English Dictionary. He was educated throughout his life from primary school to university in English and he gained a first class honours degree in that English at university and he taught English at the same university. All his work is for the English speaking world. The Centre displays all of his published works including any translations. There is NO translation into Irish.
It is a hugely important attraction for academics and the reading public world wide. So why on entering the centre are all the essential information signs are in Irish first followed by English?
This is a cheap political stunt by ignorant, bigoted, and poorly educated Irish language enthusiasts on the council which runs the centre. They need to be told that no one should be allowed to make a cheap political point at the expense of a world wide and world renowned author. If they profess to be proud of their local hero they should be ashamed of what they have done

Excellent on all accounts. Friendly staff, and we learned a lot about Seamus Heaney. We particularly enjoyed hearing the poetry being read by Seamus.

I’d met Seamus only a few times. The word genius is often misused, but I do think it applies to him.
Last time I met him was accidental; it was Stansted Airport where he was displeased with a check - in lady; he was as the Ulster Scots would say in a splootèr and he crabbitly told me that Ryanair had made him furious, in that wonderful mid ulster dialect. So they even annoy genius. It’s as well he didn’t put pen up paper and include Ryanair in one of his books of poetry. They would likely have come off deservedly badly.
We enjoyed the museum as it was focused on Seamus’s wider family and the strong influences of his upbringing and terroir growing up in this beautiful part of our island.
So much of poetry is personal. Seamus isn’t my favourite poet, my favourite among his great works is his second book of poetry ‘Door Into The Dark’.
I much prefer Keats with his range of poetic forms from the sonnet, to the Spenserian romance, to the Miltonic epic, with his own control of conflicting perspectives and his impish dry ironic wit but this museum stands as a wonderful tribute to one of our greatest modern poets.

Best attraction. Beautiful and functional. Very well made. Very peaceful. Left feeling we really knew the man as well as his work. Definitely recommend this.

As a retired English teacher, I was very keen to come here having been recommended a visit by friends. I have to say it even exceeded my high expectations. So much to see and interact with, every aspect of Seamus Heaney's life and work was put into context in an extremely well designed and spacious centre. What a great man he was - and clearly loved by all who knew him. The staff here are knowledgeable and very helpful too. Thanks, Audrey!

We enjoyed a wonderful visit to Home Place. The layout, atmosphere and exhibits were a perfect way to discover more about the great man himself. Hearing his voice reading so many of his own poems was evocative and unusually moving. The team are all lovely people too - they really do make you feel at home with typical Northern Irish warmth and natural hospitality. We allowed 2 1/2 hours but could have stayed all day, it is a relaxed but inspirational place. A must if you are in Northern Ireland. My 94 year old Aunt visited last year and was enthralled - it really does feel like Seamus is talkning to you. A brilliantly accessible venue for our wheelchair too, bravo!

This museum gives one an excellent insight into the mind and work of iconic Irish poet Seamus Heaney, both for those who wish to learn of his work for the first time and for established experts in his poetry. This museum is to be recommended for anybody.

This is a wonderful place for anyone interested in Seamus Heaney's life and work. The exhibitions are thoughtful and really immerse you. The staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful too.

Amazing place-if you know his work it’s a treasure and if you don’t it’s an education.
Great use of old photos, maps and interactive exhibits to bring his work and life to life.
Wonderful welcoming staff and a brilliant cafe! Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Visited here recently to go to an event in the Helicon. The centre and cafe is lovely, wish I’d allowed more time to look around. Only letdown is seating in the Helicon. It’s bench style and If it’s sold out, it is very cramped with very little room between everyone. A lovely venue, but not the most comfortable.
