This temple is the second temple to visit in Naalambala Yatra in kerala..
This is one of the rare temples where only one idol is there.

Situated at Irinjalakuda in Thrissur district, Kerala, Koodalmanikyam Temple is the only temple in India dedicated to Bharata, the brother of Lord Rama. One of the distinctive feature of Koodalmanikyam temple is that there is only one single Prathista (single deity).
According to the legend, thousands of years ago, Irinjalakuda was a dense forest . Kulipini Maharshi and some other sages did a great Yagna to please Lord Vishnu. Pleased with their devotion, the Lord Vishnu appeared before them. As boon, Kulipini Maharshi and other sages wanted the eternal presence of the Lord at that place. The Lord readily agreed. Happy with the presence of the Lord, all the sages prayed to Goddess Ganga to bless the sacred Yagnabhoomi with her presence. All the sages immersed themselves in the sacred waters and became one with the Lord. The temple itself was not built immediately after the incident. The place was not inhabited for many hundred years probably. According to the legends, a local Chieftain, Vakkay Kaimal, had a dream one night in which some mysterious person appeared before him and told him that the four idols have been washed ashore and that these idols are to be consecrated at such and such places. Next day, Kaimal hastened to the seashore and he saw four idols laying there as indicated in the dream. As per the instructions in the dream, the four idols were duly installed in four temples. Lord Rama at Thriprayar (22 Km North west of Irinjalakuda), Bharata at Irinjalakuda, Lakshmana at Moozhikulam (30 KM south west of Irinjalakuda) and Shatrughna at Payammal (5 KM south of Irinjalakuda). It is believed that worshiping at these four temples on the same day is especially meritorious. This temple is part of the famous Nalambala Darshana Yatra. The eastern gate way (Gopuram) is an impressive structure in the typical Kerala style of architecture with tiled roof and white washed walls.

Kerala do not have many Bharatha temples. Koodalmanikyam is the most important one among those. A must visit for those interested in temple architecture. Parking space is available in front of the temple. There is an entrance in the back side also. Try to come from the main entrance. Decent Veg food is available near the temple.
This is one the dour temples visited during ' nalapmapalam( 4 temples)' visit during the Ramayan month.

Beautiful, Divine ans Serene. Has a positive vibe. It's in my native and i will try go here when ever i go to my native. it's approximately 25 KM far from the nearest City Thrissur. Main deity is lord Bharatha .This is the only temple which is dedicated to Bharatha, the younger brother of Lord Sri Rama and The God is also called Sri Sangameshwaran. The main offering to the God is Lotus garland.. this is one of the temple it has a very large Koothambalam ( temple theatre is a closed hall) . There wont be any rush normally to see God and Temple is crowded in the Malayalam auspicious month Karkidakam . i will recommend this temple to all .

Visited this on a quite holiday morning. Absolute peaceful place, large open prakaram (open courtyard), auspicious big temple pond, rarest of the temples, dedicated to Bharatha, the traditional soap a sangeetham played. All this makes the place so serene. Best thing me to visit any Kerala temple is before 7-8 am to save time and feel the serenity. There is parking available right in front and no steps for elders to climb. There is a good vegetarian restaurant also there within a km.

Koodalmanikyam is the Malayalam translation of the Sanskrit word Sangameswara. There is, however, another folklore about the name. One day the idol was found to give out uncommonly bright from its forehead.
This is one of the " Nalambalam Temples" and people should this temple at once.
