This is basically a square surrounded by a market and is located in close proximity to the Laxmi temple. It has a history of its own but the facade is really beautiful. In the centre there is a statue on a pillar of a man with wings. A good photo opportunity next to the main temple.

Bhavani Mandap is located close to Shri Mahalaxmi Temple and it is a building of historical importance, associated with the Chhatraptis of Kolhapur.
Bhavani Mandap houses a statue of Shahu Maharaj, a Wooden Seat and stuffed animals hunted by the members of Kolhapur Royals family.
Being close to the temple, the place is easily accessible.

I went to Bhavani Mandap. Bhavani Mandap used to be the court and palace of Chhatrapati Maharaja in the yesteryears which has now been converted into a public monument and is an important site of heritage in the Kolhapur city. It is great place to go.

Kolhapur is extremely famous a city for various reasons and one of them is history. Of the many things of historical importance in the city, Bhavani Mandap is one. It is a historical building and heritage site in the central walled portion of the city of Kolhapur. Bhavani Mandap is a famous building and the abode of the goddess Tulja Bhavani who is known as a guest in the city of Kolhapur, which is considered to be the city of her elder sister Mahalaxmi.
When Kolhapur became self-governed, this place was built. It has fine and sound construction with 14 squares. In about 1813, the Muslim knight Sadakhan invaded the palace and a part of it was burnt. After repair, 7 squares survived. At the center there is the temple of Kulswamini Tulja Bhavani. History tells that Shambhu alias Abasaheb Maharaj was killed in this very Mandap.Nearly stands a body-built statue to commemorate Shahu Maharaj. As a memory of his hunting a stuffed tiger and buffalo are kept. Tomb to right with coloured fishes and a tiny temple of Lord Shiva, all appears to be history incarnate! Opposite to the temple is a grand hall-pendal which was erected in 1918 A.D when Shreemant Akkasaheb Maharaj, daughter of Shahu Maharaj was married. Further, during 1926-30 Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj gave a new form to it.
It is said that there is an underground tunnel leading to Bhavani Mandap from Panhala, the hillside fort about 20 km away from Kolhapur built to allow an escape-route for warring Maratha soldiers.
