Thoroughly Impressed
My stay at Casa Ceiba was simply relaxing, fun, and adventurous. The house is brand new, very clean, and well designed with 3 bedrooms, each with their own porch, a nice living room, and gourmet kitchen. The house has tile floors throughout and a wooden ceiling design that catches your eye as soon as you walk in. We enjoyed a spectacular view while hanging out in the pool and hot tub. Pool and house were cleaned every day, no issues! We were greeted each morning by a charming woman who took great care of us during our stay, cooking us gourmet breakfasts and dinners and treating us so very kindly.
Nearby town of La Fortuna was quaint and plentiful of our needs and included a coffee house for which we went to a few times and enjoyed the best cup of coffee I ever had. Our Zip Lining adventure was quite exhilarating and within 10 minutes of the house. Our hike up the very well maintained Cerro Chato Volcano in nearby La Fortuna was the most challenging hike ever but I enjoyed every minute! We also visited one of the many hot springs which are located nearby and just enjoyed a great afternoon of relaxation and beautiful atmosphere.
While we drove by many other rental properties in the area, I think our rental was in the best area, with the best view, and offered the most amenities. I highly recommend this rental and I plan to revisit next year.

Best Vrbo We have ever rented.
Great location, breathtaking views, super comfortable house. Enough room for 8-10. Great support staff. Amazing food. We are Vrbo junkies and have rented homes all over the world, this was the best.

Jaw dropping beautiful home!
We stayed at Casa Cieba for 6 days and I must say when we first saw the house my mouth dropped open! From the beautiful carved wooden doors to the spectacular lake and volcano views from every room in the house, this place is amazing! You can sit on the porch swing, drinking your morning coffee and listen to all the birds, or sit in the hot tub in the evening and witness some of the best sunsets I've ever seen! We were fortunate enough to see toucans, green parrots, coatis and white faced monkeys along with a host of other birds right from the house. You have to do Sky Trek which is just down the road. I would recommend not only doing the zip lines but also the guided hanging bridges tour. We also did several excursions using Desafio and got a 10% discount for booking multiple tours. These included waterfall rapelling, caving and white water rafting! We didn't get a chance to hike up Cerro Chato volcano as it rained the day we planned on going but this gave us a chance to relax and enjoy the house! Be sure to check out the Eco Zoo right in El Castillo and ask the neighbour alan about the hidden waterfall hike, it's an easy walk but fun and beautiful. We spent 3 hours at Baldi hot springs and could easily have stayed half a day!
There were a few minor issues at the house in regards to using the washer and dryer and hot water but I let Jim know and he is fixing this. Jim was a great guy to deal with, very informative and always answers your e-mail inquiries right away! The rooms have comfortable beds and each room has it's own balcony! There's wifi which is handy and a mobile phone to use for local calls. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need, other than a dishwasher lol. The hot tub takes a good hour to heat up so be sure to give yourself time before sunset! Our only regret was that we didn't book more time at Casa Cieba so we could kick back and enjoy the house more!

Fantastic house!
We just returned from a 10 day trip to Arenal and it was amazing! We were extremely active on the trip (horseback riding, zip lining, hiking, etc.), but at the end of a long day, this house provided the perfect retreat! The grounds and gardens are beautiful and the house has all the amentities you need! We saw more wildlife at the house while soaking in the hot tub than anywhere else (howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, toucans, parrots and 100 other bird species). The individuals the owner has looking after the house and the guests were truly amazing! Emilce and Luis were wonderful and their presence helped us to truly experience and enjoy Costa Rica's food, culture and people! Emilce's home cooked meals were fantastic and enjoyed by all! Their son, Fabricio (and his daughter Emily), were lovely. Alan, from Birdsong B&B (up the hill) was helpful - arranging excursions and making recommendations for restaurants. He even took us to Rancho Margot one night. Greivin, the property manager, was wonderfully helpful as well! A massage from Krissia @ Nepenthe (up the hill) is a must! Tomas and Hannah from La Gavilana Herbs and Art were great - they arranged the horseback riding tour with Guillermo and his brother. Hannah is a very talented artist and Tomas is a fermenter - worthwhile visiting their shop for fresh baked bread on the next ridge (it is quite a walk!) The soda and the supermercardo in town were also convenient to have nearby. A 4x4 car is helpful in this area to get up and down the hills.

Jaw-dropping beauty! An amazing house in a cool location!
My family stayed in this house for 4 days, including our 9-month-old baby (for which the property manager had considerately arranged to have a pack-n-play set up). First of all, the area is really cool. It gets you off the beaten path of La Fortuna, but is still close enough to go there for groceries or dinner a couple of times. It is located near a tiny village called El Castillo, right in the heart of the jungle. El Castillo has the most amazing zip-lining available in Costa Rica (SkyTram), a great "soda" for breakfasts or even lunches, super friendly people (both Costa Ricans and a handful of interesting American ex-pats and retirees that are more adventurous than most 20-somethings I know), amazing hiking trails, and quick access to any other activity you could imagine. The property manager, an American named Allen, lives in a neighboring house year-round, and was more than happy to help us set up any activity by calling for prices or reservations. He was funny and a wealth of information, as well as being a phone-call away for any concerns with the house; he was like our own personal concierge! Up the road from the house is a world-class spa if you want a massage or to eat dinner at their restaurant. Some of the people in my group went horseback riding with a guy named Lelanders, the local cowboy, and had the most incredible ride (& we're all horse people, so we're harsh critics!). Lelanders has gorgeous appaloosas that are fit and very well cared-for, and he took them on a ride for over 4 hours, deep into the jungle on private land of his family's, to a huge waterfall where he had built the trails himself. They saw incredible jungle wildlife, including a 6-foot boa constrictor! And of course, the jewel set into the center of all of this is the house itself. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! It made us want to buy property ourselves to try to recreate it. It has a very clean pool and hottub that look out over an expansive valley - totally private. We relaxed in that hottub and enjoyed amazing views, sunsets, and stargazing every night. There's a bathroom down by the pool and rec room, which has an indoor-outdoor ping-pong table (super fun). Each bedroom has its own private balcony overlooking that valley, and just laying in bed in the mornings you can gaze out at the colorful jungle birds and butterflies. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, the kitchen has anything you might need, there are plenty of towels and blankets, it's quiet and peaceful and relaxing.... I can't say enough about how amazing this house is!!!
Tips: bring a light jacket and long pants; it can get a bit damp and chilly in the rainforest. The house doesn't have AC, but definitely doesn't need it. If you're scared of bugs, maybe scratch a stay in the jungle off your CR list; the house does have its 6- & 8-legged residents (and along those same lines, any food you have or bring needs to be sealed in airtight containers or else it will become bug bait). I can't imagine staying at this house without a car; it's kind of isolated and the hills would be prohibitively long and steep for regular trips to town on foot. We had a rental SUV, but never needed to put it into 4WD, but I could imagine a really different landscape during the rainy season. Allot plenty of time for any drives, because the roads are super twisty, totally unmarked, and rife with obstacles around every turn. For reference, it took us about 3 1/2 hours to get to the house from the airport in San Jose, 30-40 minutes to get to or from La Fortuna, about 2 hours to get to Rio Celeste, and a grueling 6 hours to get to Tamarindo (we got a little lost, and also hit massive road construction). After we booked this house, the owner sent me very explicit directions from San Jose, complete with a ton of reference photos - it was the only drive we made during our whole trip that we didn't get lost!
In summary - book this house! It will be the best vacation decision you could make!

Breathtaking views, in quiet location, in the heart of a wonderful community
If you want to see the country and be near Arenal Volcano, this is the house to rent. The house is big enough for two families. We have two kids who slept in the extra room and my friends who have a teenage son slept on the day bed in the living room (sometimes on the hammock on the wonderful deck) There are plenty of places to lounge and take in the surroundings and of course listen to the howler monkeys every morning. The staff and assistance of Allan (neighbor) made this trip unforgettable. I advice using Emilce's services as chef. She is fantastic! Always plenty of food for 3 teenage boys! Luis (Emilce's husband) even let us milk the cow who grazes on the property, a memorable experience. Dinner, massages, hiking and nature right at your door. I highly recommend this location on your visit to Costa Rica.

Wonderful!!!
We were in the the city of Naranjo, a very scenic and beautiful part of Costa Rica. Watch out for the drivers, they are worst than New Yokers, and the roads are winding and narrow. But go!!! The inconveniences are worth it. If you like geckos, then stay at our rental property.

Panoramic Views
This rented house in the hills close to El Castillo, with a spectacular panoramic view of the volcano and the lagoon, was beautiful and efficient. We were thrilled by the views, the pool and hot tub, the beautiful bathrooms and 3 bedrooms (each with its own balcony and more than enough storage), the hammock and swing, the pingpong table and bar and last but not least, our cooks, who were available to make meals if we chose. We did for 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts during our 5 days there and those meals were excellent! We went zip lining and hiking on the suspension bridges with Skytrek, visited the cute town of La Fortuna and went to Los Lagos hot springs and water park. Lots of fun. We had an incident which revealed how kind people can be. My husband forgot his Iphone at Skytrek, our cab driver went back got it and returned it to our house. We also visited Rancho Margot and got a tour of their self sustaining farm and hotel. Very impressive. In retrospect, we should have rented a car here because we used cabs for all excursions and sometimes they were unreliable. Overall we were extremely satisfied with our time in Arenal. The weather was sunny and warm, the food was great and we got lots of exercise. The house manager, Allan was very kind and helpful with recommendations and explanations of the house workings. We would come back here again.
