Une maison très vieille, les couchages en témoignent, deux bars et snackettes ainsi qu'une épicerie en bas de la maison, bruit continue 24h sur 24h00, klaxons, chiens, coqs, une pause entre 01h00 et 4h00,du matin, juste horrible, nous sommes partis 4 jours avant la date prévue, épuisés, nous avons acheté de l'eau de javel le premier jour pour désinfecter la terrasse de l'etage, la vaisselle est sale et il n'y a pratiquement rien comme ustensiles de cuisine, le tapis de la salle de bain est très sale, à l'image du reste de cette location, nous regrettons amèrement ce séjour, un seul conseil, Fuyez !!!

Sleepless in Layou Village
Very small. The unit only sleeps 3 not 4 as advertised. The futon is very uncomfortable. The access to the roof is not connected to the interior of the house. You need to go outside and access thru a locked outside door. The street is very confined and tight. The noise of the village (loud music, truck honking and roosters) doesn't allow much rest. Music stops around 11pm and the roosters start at 3am. The whole village comes alive at 6am. We booked for one week and after three nights decided to leave and find another spot. The one good thing that we can say is that beach is one of the best on the island.

Jack Sorry to hear about your problem in Layou. We always leave contact information for ourselves and our property manager as well as a local cell phone for guests to use, in case there is a problem and ask guests to contact us so we can rectify any problems. After hearing from a neighbor that you had left, we did try to contact you through several means to see what the problem was and to try and solve it. I have since spoken to the neighbor about the music and they have been very good about keeping it down and even checking with the guests that they are not disturbing them. The house is in the middle of a vibrant village and on the only road in the village. The street is typical of a Dominican village. The unit is very small and is described as such in the description. The roof access is also clearly described in the description as having an exterior access. You say the house is suitable for 3 not 4 guests. We have had 4 guests many times in the in the past without complaints. Sorry you found the futon uncomfortable. We’ve had some guests prefer the futon over the king size bed.

Culturally Inspiring
The beach house was exactly what we are looking for in a vacation. My girlfriend and I were hoping for an environment were we mingle among the indigence population. Were we could learn from them, specifically, how they lived on an island that gives so much. We wanted basics with some modern conveniences. At the very least WiFi. It was well painted and clean. There were 2 options for us to sleep. The main area had a futon. The loft had a memory foam mattress which we elected to sleep in because it was fun. Nearly everyone in which we came in contact treated us with respect. Learning a new culture can be difficult for some as it requires a lot of closed mouth participation. They are eager to teach for those willing to listen. Remember that this village is home to many families. Its an active fishing village. Its not a resort. It is someones home. That said, The island itself was breathtaking and we drove everywhere and tried to experience as much as our time allowed. Patricia the owner was very helpful in this regard as she gave us information for guides on both the Indian river and boiling lake. BOTH are necessary and highly recommended. Raymond and Lenni respectively. Lenni was our guide for boiling lake and I can honestly say without exaggeration he saved my life more then once with his sound advice. Later after the hike he invited us to his home were he gave us herbs for cooking and poured us some cocoa tea. Excellent host/guide. We are going back again. That said, The music in the little hut/shed behind us played most of the time. We were told its a bar and that seemed the norm as most music could be heard from nearly every where on the west coast. It seems to be a cultural thing. Parking in the garage/car port was really tough. It required a lot of maneuvering. I did get the hang of it, again, thanks to the locals help. Driving in that country is an experience. It was really fun, and challenging. This is an area of the vacation that you should not take lightly. It is difficult and the locals are unforgiving, but kind. I would give this rating a 4.5 but can only give a 4. We will be going back.

Jonathan You think parking your small jeep was tough in the garage, you should try my full size SUV. We are working on the road in front of the house with the village council to get the gutter across from us enclosed, adding an extra two feet of maneuvering room and no fear of falling in the "gotcha gutter" I will be speaking to the owners of the bar behind the house about the loud music. We have a reciprocal agreement and i send people to them to buy fish. But in a village people do "share" the music. The people in the village are very nice and helpful and we try to contribute back with help for the schools and community. I am glad Lenny and Raymond worked out. They are both really nice guys. Hope to see you on your next visit to Dominica

Our stay in this place was amazing. Good place with people very nice. A beautiful Terrace, with a beautiful view. We loved all the atmosphere!! I recommend!

Great Location
Patti was a fabulous host. She had just returned to Dominica after being gone on some adventures with her husband. The village is great. It can be noisy in the day, but quiets down at night. The sunset from the top deck are amazing. Even more so with a glass of wine in the hot tub. Patti even has a privacy curtain to block the neighbors view of the tub. The house is centrally located for exloring Dominica. The main house is one room and cozy . It is decorated with Patti's husband's underwater photos. The sleeping loft is up a ladder to a king bed. The living room, the house is one room, has a double futon. This house has great neighbors who watch out for you. It is the perfect place to stay. I'd do it again.

Perfect location,next to layou river,this beach house with air con & wifi gave all the comforts of home & all round views . Perfectly placed in the middle of the island , Also gave great insight to island local life,if you need anything just ask there's always someone who can help . If on a short break 1-2weeks a car is a must ,you don't want to miss anything,you'll be stopping for pics everywhere The owner Patricia Rendell (patty) is a sweetie who just shares her love of dominica

The Beach House
We have rated the beach house a 5. But for some the ladder to the sleeping loft might render the house not the best choice. I am a fit senior who, personally, had no problems with it. This is a great place to stay for most everyone, because of the beach location, the gorgeous sunsets, the village neighbors (especially Mary and clam, who have a store and take out restaurant next-door - when we didn't feel like cooking or going out to eat, they provided us delicious chicken and fish and provided us with most of the provisions we needed.) The Beach House is two floors. The main floor has the main kitchen, Coach chairs WC and sleeping loft. The second floor covered Terrace, open on two sides, windows with screens on the third, has two hammocks, a BBQ and hot tub. From here in our rental car we travel to almost the whole of the island, over several days. You will probably need a car. We recommend Valley car rentals and thank Merle & Miguel for their great service. Miguel picked us up and delivered us to the ferry. we had a problem with the car's AC. Miguel brought a replacement vehicle to our door. Thanks go to our host, Patti, who is gracious, knowledgable and very helpful for all of our needs and concerns. She supplied a local mobile phone which came in very handy. We highly recommend this location

Unforgettable Stay at The Beach House
Patti was a great host, so friendly and warm and definitely made us feel right at home in Layou. The village is great, people are very friendly and the food is delicious. Loved the Beach House, it had everything we needed and sunsets on the top deck were amazing. I would wholeheartedly recommend Patti's place to anyone looking to explore Dominica because it's perfectly situated in close proximity to a lot of great hikes, waterfalls, beaches and towns. If I return I'd stay there again in a second. Thanks again for your hospitality!

Experiance the true culture of the village of Layou, with first world amenities.
Patti met us at the Beach House and introduced us to the local surroundings and neighbours. This was much appreciated. The Beach house is right in the middle of the busy village of Layou, which although noisy at times, tends to become quiet around 9pm each night (even the small bar next door was quiet by 9pm). Cleanliness and amenities were good and we appreciated the little 'variety' store, bar and eating 'kitchenettes' we had as neighbours. We spent the majority of time, when we were at the Beach House, on the upper covered porch, which offers a 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding area, including the quiet secluded beach with it's amazing sunsets and rainbows. However, what impressed us most was how welcoming the people of Dominica were. They are extremely friendly and offer help every chance that they get, without any expectations in return and if you do tip them, they are extremely thankful. If you are looking to be pampered and waited upon, the Beach House is not for you. If you want to experience what it is like to live in a third world village complete with the people, noises and smells associated with their laidback lifestyle, with first world amenities at your fingertips (in the Beach House), Layou and the Beach House, is the perfect destination.

Bien, mais...
Le confort de la cuisine est rudimentaire, impossible de mettre les genoux sous le bar qui sert de table. La propreté du logement laissait largement à désirer. Evier avec la vaisselle encore dans l'égouttoir, lavabo SDB sale, tapis de douche très sale. Par contre terrasse très appréciée avec vue sur mer et baignoire à jet. Cuisine de plein air très agréable, mais pas très propre non plus. Nous avons beaucoup apprécié de vivre parmi les Dominiquais qui sont des gens très aimables et serviables.
