Truly remarkable lodgings in the heart of a quiet yet vibrant medieval village. Uncluttered, sophisticated elegance appointed with the finest,details in furnishings, artwork, and ah, the linens. Lovely vistas from huge windows grace every room. And a secret undulating stairway beckons you to the large Terrace above where you live among singing, cavorting swifts, soft breezes, and look down upon a gently flowing river below where herons wheel and pause in the little eddies. At night happy frogs chortle among the grasses across the river, while the ancient golden walls breath out their long history. Never tiresome. A truly captivating village with a farmers' market under a 9th century Halle, charming and original restaurants, hikes, swimming in the river, gardens, a summer piano festival, even an Abby founded by Charlemagne. Castles abound nearby. Best of all, the owner, Nicole, multi-lingual, attentive, creative--an elegant artist herself who is willing to share her knowledge and her grace. Lucky traveler to stay here!

We spent a week in this large, beautiful and well equipped apartment in late March, having been welcomed and helped to unload by Nicole - very useful in a narrow cobbled street on market day! Lagrasse is justifiably a "plus beau village" and the surrounding countryside is great for walking - ideal on our first holiday with our dog. After a couple of very windy days, the weather improved and we were able to put the riverside balcony to good use - the sun arrives at around 2pm, so it is worth delaying lunch until then.

If you’re visiting the of south west of France, Lagrasse is ideally situated to explore the area. Lagrasse itself is an absolutely beautiful place with all the local amenities that you should need. If you’re looking for accommodation in Lagrasse, House La France is the place to stay. We stayed in the Riverside and Ramparts apartment, however had a look around, and the whole building has been beautifully restored. The apartment is a generous size, well supplied, clean and the Rampart balcony overlooking the river is hard to tear yourself away from. Nicole is a lovely, welcoming host and the whole holiday will be one that will be fondly remembered.

This is a beautiful house in a very tranquil setting. You enter from the street just a few metres from the market place into a cool and peaceful courtyard. Once up the stairs the rooms are simply but stylishly decorated. The bedrooms are comfortable and each with a lovely en suite. But it is the roof terrace overlooking the river that makes the house so special. Largely shaded during the day its the perfect place from breakfast to star gazing late at night (we saw several of the planets and the international space station on most evenings). We will be back

House La France is centrally situated just along from the market square, overlooking the small, picturesque river below and the famous ancient bridge along with shrubs and trees on the other bank making the apartment feel very private. We rented the smaller apartment and it was very comfortable for two. Much of the furniture is gorgeous - obviously old and Nicole has ensured that it is all functional, cupboards closing properly etc. The apartment is reached via a beautiful internal courtyard, full of plants along with some antique garden furniture. We were lucky enough to see the terrace apartment and that is divine, with lots of privacy for guests bedroom-wise and a great view from the terrace itself. I think it would probably suit adults more than children as it's styled in a sophisticated manner. Nicole obviously has a very keen eye for interior design and is also very friendly and approachable - we enjoyed our chats whenever we bumped into her. I think House La France is probably the best choice in Lagrasse from the extensive accommodation research I did prior to booking. I certainly wasn't disappointed. Thank you very much, Nicole. Firstly I want to say Lagrasse is just stunning, breath taking scenery and beautiful buildings with a lovely friendly atmosphere. I stayed in the terrace apartment, wow it’s so obvious the owner is an interior designer , the furniture and furnishings are just gorgeous , it has the most impressive ambience and the outside space is fantastic with wonderful views over the river. I have already booked for next year, can’t wait to return

We rented the smaller of House LaFrance’s two apartments. Both the bedroom and living room are gracious, with lovely views over the river, and a small terrace. The sound of birds in the morning is special. The bathroom and kitchen are compact but well-organized. The apartment is stylishly decorated and very comfortable. Bed linens are crisp. We toured the larger 3 bedroom apartment, with its huge terrace, also overlooking the river. The decor is more sumptuous, in keeping with the grander space. We don’t generally like travelling with other people, but might make an exception, just so we could stay in the larger apartment! The owner provided thoughtful and well-researched notes about the area in advance (restaurants, beaches, walks, sites) which were very helpful. We had visited Lagrasse in the past, but this was our first extended stay. The Village is beautiful, and with more time, we walked all the laneways, focused on the architecture, and really enjoyed the small Saturday market, which is held in the old covered market hall. We found Lagrasse a good base for exploring the region.

The setting is perfect: on the banks of the river right in the middle of the beautiful small town of Lagrasse, with views of the old bridge and the abbey opposite. All you need right on the doorstep. The accommodation was spacious and comfortable, and well presented. Nicole is a very friendly hostess, available when needed. A place to return to.

House la France In July we stayed two weeks in House la France. The welcoming by Nicole was very kind and personal, so that we felt home immediately. The apartment is lovely. It is situated on the best place you can wish, in the centre yet very quiet and with splendid views at the bridge, the river in which you can swim and the abbey. The apartment is tasteful decorated and offers all the comfort you need. The village is beautiful. Sometimes it can be a bit crowded, but from the moment you’re back “home” in the apartment, you don’t hear almost nothing from the rumor. We lunched and dined very well in Lagrasse. The Hostellerie de Corbieres, LaCocotte Felee and Les Trois Graces are good and not expensive. We loved our holiday! Thanks very much to Nicole.

Our stay in Nicole's apartment in Lagrasse was idyllic. From the town of Lagrasse itself with the river, good restaurants, wine tasting venues and lovely people to the apartment's location and amenities everything was perfect. A reasonable drive away from a number of other interesting locations in the South of France the apartment is also a great base to explore the area. Nicole's neighbor rents bikes and there are nice villages to explore by bike in the area or head to eat fresh oysters a short, 45 minute car ride away to the med. Great vacation!
