Gorgeous, characterful, calm oasis surrounded by forest...
We had the most wonderful stay in El Granel.
We were welcomed, at the airport, and shown the way to the casa where we found the most carefully prepared property, a very generous welcome hamper of organic fruit and everything we would need for an evening, breakfast and many avocado sandwiches! The house is an old farmhouse, carefully restored and every need has been thought about.
The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen has all the implements that we could need, the TV has many channels, the WiFi is very good, the bathroom great, there is a fireplace and electric heaters to take off the evening chill. Perfect!
We were woken each morning by the sun reflecting off the ocean - magical. We loved the perfect sheltered garden, surrounded by flowers, particularly for our morning yoga practice and meditation...as well as sunbathing and reading! There are birds singing all around in the laurel forests around the casa, and the gentle sound of goats bleating from the lovely farm up the road.
Puntallana itself is not a very nice town, but there is a bar and Spar supermarket, however San Andreas, which is 10 minutes drive away is gorgeous - one of the original habitations on the island and the restaurant there, which dates back to 1604, provides great food and drink and is not expensive.
Also; Los Tilos, the original biosphere reserve on the island is very close by. We can thoroughly recommend hiring a taxi from the information board at the beginning of the walking trail, up to the top and walking for 5 hours back down, through the levada tunnels carrying water from the most amazing gushing springs, through ancient laurel forests. We would love to have done a similar thing at La Galga, which is even closer to the casa. The mercado in Santa Cruz, the tapas bars nearby and the famous balconies along the seafront are also worth a visit.
The jewel in the crown of La Palma is undoubtedly the Caldera de Taburiente an incredible edifice that equals the Grand Canyon in grandeur! Explore it as much as you are able!!!

Une adorable et très confortable petite maison
Calme, avec vue sur la mer, cette location très bien équipée est idéale pour se reposer. Les propriétaires sont extrêmement sympathiques et prévenants (accueil charmant et familial à l'aéroport, explications très claires sur la maison et les environs, tout le nécessaire pour un vrai petit-déjeuner en plus d'un généreux plateau de produits locaux).
A deux kilomètres un supermarché et un marché local le samedi à ne pas manquer.
Nous y avons passé deux semaines de vacances merveilleuses avec d'inoubliables grillades au barbecue et de réconfortantes soirées au coin du feu ( un bonheur après la rando !) grâce au stock de bois fourni.
