After spending a very comfortable vacation on Hydra in Theodora House in 2016, we couldn't wait to return. And despite a prolonged delay due to Covid travel restrictions, we returned in 2022, and it was worth the wait. We did not see nor cannot imagine a better rental on the island. The location is high enough above the port to afford outstanding views but not so high to be arduous. Highlights of the exterior of the house include a spectacular courtyard/garden entered directly from the street; a terrace overlooking the harbor for watching the sun illuminate the water and houses, a roof deck for sunning, sitting and drying laundry and a balcony off the living room for sunset. The interior is old world charm, with much of the lovely furniture having been in the family for decades and many photos and other art works adding to the authenticity. There is a full kitchen, two bathrooms (one with a washing machine), a den with a daybed and couch and a large comfortable master bedroom, with plenty of storage space and its own bathroom with shower. Each room offers lovely views over the harbor or the Aegean. AND that all-important addition to Theodora: An AC in both the bedroom and the living room. Myrsini, the rental agent, could not be more charming, accommodating, willing to answer all questions without hesitation. All communications were promptly answered. Theodora House will always be our home away from home when visiting the stunning island of Hydra. A special thank you to Myrsini for making it all run so smoothly and efficiently.

La propriétaire a annulé mon séjour le dimanche soir alors que je devais prendre les clés le lundi midi. Elle a inventé un dégât des eaux pour se justifier, en réalité elle a gardé la maison pour sa fille pour le 15 août, je l'ai trouvé dans la maison, puis ensuite elle a loué la maison à d'autres personnes, j'ai pu le vérifier. Mon mari et moi, nous nous sommes retrouvés à la rue le 15 août, dans une ile où tous les hôtels étaient complet. Cette personne est malhonnête et elle est connue par les habitants de l'ile pour cela. Surtout ne jamais réserver sa maison.

Really great location and fantastic views. Lots of comfortable space for two people and great facilities, although the kitchen lacks a few basics, like salad bowls and chopping board. If you don't like cats inside you can't leave the front door open, but Hydra is an island of cats! Overall we really enjoyed staying at Theodora. It's a great spot. The pictures on the website are realistic.

Theodora's is a unique property perched above Hydra harbour with extensive and panoramic views. In fact from the top patio (level 4) the views are 360deg I reckon and in the sunshine this is a great spot to be. Watching the comings and goings of the little harbour, particularly in the holiday season could be a day-long 'activity'. In fact to enable this very enjoyable past-time I would recommend a parasol be provided, if possible, as by mid afternoon the sun can be pretty fierce. The house itself is over 4 levels and has been well and accurately described in earlier reviews. Nicely furnished and with Greek art-ware and some personal items (I assume) adorning the walls and surfaces we felt really at home here. Cooking in the 'bijou' kitchen is a bit of a challenge although in reality hot weather food prep is of the 'construction' variety. In that vein a decent chopping board would have been very useful, if provided; all the other items were adequate with some showing signs of ageing though. For our first few nights the temperature was in single figures - this thankfully picked up during our stay - but there were plenty of heaters around to take the chill off. After a couple of total electrical overloads (= blackouts!) we soon worked out the 'switched on' combinations to avoid being in the dark; from our extensive travels in Greece over several years this 'flavour' is not unusual! On arrival from Piraeus we were met by Antonis who guided us to the property and gave us the low down. Reaching Theodora's is a steady climb from the harbour-side up 80+ steps; this could present a challenge for those with any mobility problems. This is mentioned in the description of course but it's not until you're there with a few bags of shopping etc that you realise the effort required. This didn't put me off at all although my wife, at 63, did feel that going up and down more than twice a day was not something to look forward to. So an evening stroll around the harbour taking in the tavernas etc was really only attempted once. For the explorers amongst us the positioning of the Theodora's inspires a hike to the Elias Monastry as well as coastal forays to Kamini, Vlycho (and beyond) and Mandraki of course. Plenty of street walking in and around Hydra Port but avoid, if possible, the timing of the midday cruise boats as the little port can quickly seem over-whelmed by tourists. As independent, wordly travellers who have spent the last 2 years visiting Greece both in and out of season my wife and I would consider Theodra's to be a Premium property and a one-off in Hydra. I think that is priced as such. We did expect Premium service, albeit relaxed, but felt somewhat let down on arrival to be told that we were leaving a day earlier than planned. Now a day later, after email checks etc, this was found to be a mistake. Whilst a lovely cleaner was gratefully provided, we were told by Antonis that she would be in on the day after our arrival and require 3 hours to clean. Well for a 6 day stay having the property cleaned after 1 day seemed unnecessary, so with some persistent discussion on my part the compromise of a mid-visit clean (seemed the most sensible to us) was agreed. In the event the cleaner arrived a day earlier, re-stated that we had to vacate the property a day earlier than booked. The cleaner was happy to accept that she had arrived on the wrong day, re-arrange for the next day (1 hour clean required). We ignored her assertion to leave a day earlier than planned. As for vacating the property on the actual due date then the cleaner wanted to start at 0900 which, you know for holiday is a bit on the early side we thought. We settled on a 0930 start as she had another job elsewhere at 1030. This is small stuff really but our holiday shouldn't be organised around the cleaner to this degree. However, we were all set on departure day/time but no show. We waited until 1115 as we didn't want to leave the property unlocked (keys on internal table as requested) and then called it a day. We left. We really enjoyed and appreciated Theodara's house, it's style and setting but felt that we were at times somehow having to manage the administration of our holiday during the holiday. This is not relaxing actually; this is not Premium There was also of an early, owner-instigated change to our formal original booking acceptance (and paid deposit), due to an online issue somewhere. There were some communication issues too which necessitated Tripadvisor assistance to resolve. So, we're happy to give the property 5* (with room for a few enhancements as offered) but 3* for all else as described above. Hence 4* overall.

Review by his wife, Jackie Miller : Yes a great stay. Interesting historic home on 5 levels and built into the rock. 82 steps from harbour level (6 flights of typical home stairs) to be factored in. Heavenly scented garden below the house, tendended for by an unannounced, kind gardener. Modern shower/bathroom, kitchen somewhat dated. Exceptionally comfortable double bed with AC/Heater located in this room. Strong wi -fi. Suggest a parasol be available for terraces. Tip: ensure departure procedure discussed prior to arrival.

Attempting to add your own distinct list of superlatives to the Casa Theodora is quite a task, particularly after the other enthusiastic comments from other guests who have had the privilege of staying in this magnificent home. From our arrival on September 2nd through our departure three weeks later there has not been one false step with the beautiful rental or with Hydra. We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge the house's amazing setting offering perhaps the most camera-worthy photos of Hydra's port from anywhere on the island. Being able to compare and contrast the Greek light from early morning through high noon and on to the golden sunsets of early evening will undoubtedly be in our memories for life. The house itself is the best stocked of any property we have rented in our 35 years of traveling. All of the interior details help create the Theodora's character, both on a personal as well as cultural level. The most personal touch was speaking directly with Theodora via phone immediately upon arrival. And all rental arrangements through Myrsini were conducted with professionalism and yet with a personal warmth. We thank both Theodora and Myrsini for making our three weeks in Hydra a very special experience.

What a brilliant little house and the view really is stupendous!! We stayed nearly a week here, Myrsini communicated well and was most helpful when we had a slight problem with the water supply during a storm - it was fixed within the hour!! Very well situated, close to town but a little bit detached - local restaurants and shops within easy (ish - there are a few steps) walking distance.

Theodoras House is a very special place indeed. Situated in the perfect spot for wonderful views over the town and over the sea towards the Peloponnese. We will definitely be returning.

This was our second visit to Hydra but our first in this lovely house. We think the house is perfectly located. High enough for those amazing views but not too strenuous a climb from the harbour. We fell into an easy routine of breakfast on the terrace, a day out on the beach, watching the sunset from the balcony and then reverting back to soak up the view over the harbour. In a town of great views, we don't think there is a better view in Hydra. We had a fabulous week and left Hydra relaxed but with a heavy heart to be leaving such a beautiful island and house. The house is well equipped, authentically decorated and perfect for a couple. The pictures don't tell the full story. Myrsini was very responsive and all arrangements went very smoothly.The air con coped admirably with the summer heat and the wifi was speedy and reliable. A larger shower is the only thing on our wish list. We will definitely be back!
