Amazing place to stay
We just returned from staying at this ridiculously nice, huge house in central Gamboa.
Actually only 3 members of our family stayed there, but we took advantage of the huge kitchen to host dinners for some people we know in town. Everyone oohed and aahed over the place. The pictures don't do it justice, and everything worked well, with very efficient AC in the lower sleeping area, which stayed cool. Pool was nice and well-used by us. Will hopefully stay again, as we love Panama.

HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TRIP
This place was fantastic in every way. First off Chimene could not have been more helpful both in booking, and recommending tours, restaurants, general tips on area.
The location is AMAZING - near enough to the city so as to make the drive doable but in the middle of the most beautiful rainforest - you wake up to the sounds of the jungle and the boats on the canal - really awe inspiring. Also near for visits to Soberania national park, great walks, trips on the canal. Chimene recommended a great guide who took the family out on the canal in the early morning to some out-of-the way islands and we saw sloth, crocodiles, toucans, monkeys, eagles etc... and barely another boat. Also fun to go eat in the Fonda in Gamboa itself, where everyone was really friendly. The walks in the national park were wonderful.
The house itself is also amazing. Beautiful architecture, cool and breezy with high ceilings - the walls made you feel like you were connected to the rainforest - and a great air conditioned kids space downstairs with pool, table football, ping pong etc... my teens loved it. Also seemed to be the only house around with a pool - which we lived in. It was also different to rental houses in that it had a proper kitchen that you can actually cook in.
Really both the house and Gamboa were the highlight of my trip - would recommend 100% and will hopefully be back for another visit!

Gorgeous Canal House on the edge of the rainforest
I have stayed at a lot of airbnb's. In the US, Europe, Latin America. This is hands down the best experience yet. Chimene and Biff have a very special home... and I use the word 'home' very deliberately. Most/some airbnb's are equipped with all the things you need, but stripped down for renters (understandable) but it is impossible to do this in this home. It is alive with the happy years spent in this home. My kids ran in and settled right in. We didn't leave the home for two days. For starters, this is a great value. This home has three floors, kids picked the bed they would sleep in each night, no one ever had to wait for a bathroom and I was able to cook anything I wanted. We've been on the road for a while so that was a luxury. There is air conditioning downstairs but we preferred the two top floors where we really felt like we were out in nature. If we were hot we jumped in the pool or turned on a fan. At night it even got chilly. The pool is a lot of fun! We barbecued, ate outside and inside. There is plenty of wildlife in on the Pipeline Trail, Rainforest Discovery Center and we went on a tour with Almodio but if you prefer you can sit on the deck with binoculors (or not) and spot toucans, mealy parrots, cabybera and lizards). The sounds at night and in the morning are incredible. People pay money to get rainforest sounds to sooth them to sleep. This is exactly what it's like. The other sounds you'll hear in the house are the faints sounds of ocean liner's horns in the distance crossing the canal which only adds to the ambience. If you are as fascinated with the canal as we are, you'll love this. If not, you won't notice. The house itself is beautifully designed and decorated in the style of canal houses. It's truly stunning and we felt it was a special treat to inhabit a space that was true to the historic lansdcape. This house will be part of your Panama experience- not just a place to sleep. Panama City is just a short drive away. We went in with kids day and night and felt very safe and comfortable. Chimene is the consumate host. Really... there's no one like her. She reached out to me before we arrived. Everything was organized by her very friendly and helpful neighbor. There was coffee from their coffee plantation waiting on th counter, more than enough linens, toiletries, etc. We were in constant communication. She helped me organize tours as well as helped me plan the rest of my trip in Panama!!! She went above and beyond in every aspect. Her gestures, she should know, are deeply appreciated. I cannot recommend this house and this host and Panama enough. We will be back!

Amazing, unique place to stay for those that love the outdoors alongside comforts of a modern home
My extended family of 8 stayed at the Bird House in Dec 2014 for six days. Our group consisted of my wife and I, our 2 children (ages 8 & 11), and our 4 parents. The house is a wonderful, unique experience for those looking for something very different from regular hotels. There is plenty of space, the full amenities of home (including very reliable wifi), and amazing decorations that had my wife (a graphic designer) buzzing with ideas. You truly can see the tops of ships on the canal from the deck and there really are birds everywhere. We didn’t catch sight of any monkeys around the property, but there were plenty along pipeline road (5 minute drive away), and there are agoutis and coatis hanging out in the park across the street.
Look at the pictures on the site closely to understand how the house is laid out - the exterior walls on the main floors are giant, slatted, sliding panels with screens to keep the bugs out. This means the house feels almost more outdoors than indoors. Our group loved it, and we never felt like our privacy was impinged upon since there is a fair amount of distance to the neighbors, but if you are not an outdoors lover it may feel strange to you to have all the noises from the world around you in your living space. Obviously, there is also no air conditioning, but numerous fans throughout the house keep it quite pleasant.
Chimene, the owner, is the perfect “remote host.” She helped us extensively with planning activities prior to our stay in Gamboa and also gave us advice for things to do in other parts of Panama. She had tremendous patience with me as I pinged her with loads of emails. Later in our trip we ended up staying at her treetop “beach platforms” in Rio Mar as well which was a whole other type of cool experience.
