On the outskirts of Shaftesbury with its famous Gold Hill, you’ll find the charming village of Semley, at the edge of which is the historic estate of Harthill Farm, a working sheep farm. This semi-detached, two-bedroom cottage is adjoined to the main house but is completely separate, including separate entrance, driveway, parking and garden. Harthill farm is a small, traditional livestock farm in the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The oldest part of the house dates back to the 17th century and the house was extended in 1848, around the time that the South Western Railway reached the South West and enabled the farmers to sell fresh milk further afield (there was a United Dairies factory at Semley railway station). The cottage itself was added in the 1960’s. Harthill farm was originally part of the Fonthill Estate until 1936, when the outlying tenanted farms were sold. Harthill was described as a fine Tudor residence, and like most of the farms in the area, was bought by a wealthy landowner. The farm was sold in the mid-1960s and converted into a stud farm, although some beef cattle remained. The present owners purchased the farm in 1994 and have returned it to its original purpose of livestock farming, currently sheep. The farm is situated in a small bowl with attractive views, and there is a footpath across the land which provides an attractive walk. The cottage has a private entrance and gate, through which you drive in and park in a secluded grassy area. Eight steps lead down to the cottage’s entrance. The garden offers the ideal spot for the children or perhaps the dog to enjoy, out in the fresh air. Hart Hill Farm Cottage comfortably sleep up to four guests across two bedrooms, both located on the first floor. The master bedroom has a kingsize bed and its own en-suite bathroom for added privacy. The second bedroom has twin beds and there is a family shower room on this floor also. The interior of the property has been lovingly furnished and is quietly tasteful with a traditional English feel. Enjoying a rural location with quiet countryside in all directions, you’ll be sure of a relaxing time away at Harthill Farm Cottage. Shop and restaurant 2¾ miles, pub 1½ miles.
