The title says it all.
Location: 15-20 mins walk from the magnificent Praia Da Adraga. The beach is beautiful and was not crowded at all, despite the sun and great temperatures for this time of the year (24-25 degrees in the last week of October).
Don't miss the clifftop walk from the beach to Praia Grande - great sea views. You also get to see real dinosaur footprints as a bonus!
We didn't try the restaurant right on Adraga beach - it always seemed to be booked up days in advance. The food reportedly is good, but appearance and decor is utterly charmless.
It's easy to go to Cascais, Lisbon or Sintra from Almocageme.
Sintra is a delightful historical town, 20-25 mins away by car. Excellent restaurants, great sights and attractions, good souvenir shops. Don't miss Pena Palace. Try the tuk-tuks that take you up to or down from the palace, rather than the always-crowded 434 bus.
Cabo Da Roca is 3-4 km away. Its quite touristy, though you can't not go there after coming in this area. Expect coachloads of camera-happy tourists all vying to get their pictures taken against the pillar.
Cascais is a modern, prosperous town like any prosperous seaside town anywhere, as far as we could see.
Don't miss Alfama, Baixa and Barrio Alto if you go to Lisbon. We suggest you leave for Lisbon early and spend as much of the day as possible in the city. Of course, taking Tram 28 is a thing to do. Expect having to wait quite long to get on the tram, but it is worth it.
Apartment: Quite good, great views westwards towards the sea. Good sea view. Beautiful sunset views. Well equipped kitchen. Great, tasteful, African-themed decor. Ample room for 4. The near-constant barking of misbehaved dogs couple of doors up the road can be annoying, but can't be helped. Thankfully they never barked at night!
Host: Mario, the host, was wonderful and welcoming. There was a welcome bottle of good wine and fresh fruit. Thank you, Mario for a very good stay in your beautiful apartment.
Food: Couple of grocery stores in the village and a few cafes serving basic fare. If you want to go to a proper restaurant, it is advisable to go to Sintra.
Transportation: Car is strongly advised, although public transport is available. The way back to the apartment from Praia Da Adraga could be considerable effort for people not used to climbing up steep roads. Plus, a car would give you freedom to explore more nearby areas. However, we didn't have a car and didn't miss having it (apart from the inconvenience of the upwards trek from the beach). We used Uber when needed to go to Sintra or Cascais. Public transport to these places is also available, but we didn't use it due to lack of time.
Overall, a very good experience staying in Almocageme in general and Mario's apartment in particular.
