Welcome to Casa Alta Vista! Situated on 1.2 hectares of land, Casa Alta Vista is positioned on a hillside overlooking the Gulfo Dulce of southern Costa Rica. The property offers a 1 bedroom Main House and separate 2 bedroom Cabina – comfortably sleeping upto 6 guests. This home was lovingly crafted by hand, using teak and other local hardwoods, to provide a unique experience of Costa Rican jungle life. The design is totally unique, inspired by Hawaiian architecture - it is the only house of its kind in the area. Stairs lead from ground level up to the main house, with its sea facing balcony providing beautiful views of the colourful rich tropical garden and rainforest, and ocean beyond. From this vantage point, you will enjoy some of the most sensational sunsets across the ocean that you have ever seen. The Main House features 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom and open plan kitchen and lounge, plus an office with sleeper couch. The bedroom offers a king size bed, and the bathroom features a large shower with views onto the surrounding trees. Awakening every morning to the dawn chorus of birdsong is pure magic. The entire design of the main house is to maximise the flow of Pacific ocean breezes through the dwelling (hence there is no need for air conditioning) - so there are no floor to ceiling walls, but instead exposed wooden ceilings and Japanese-style screens create the rooms. Large windows with mosquito nets and optional glass shutters, again allowing for maximum air flow and providing full experience of the jungle sounds that surround the home. Furnishings are hand made, giving the home a rustic and simple feel, but nonetheless comfortable and truly a haven for anyone who appreciates nature immersion. A 30-metre stone path is found between the Main House and the double storey Cabinas. At ground level there is the Green Cabina, with its own entrance, bedroom offering queen size bed, shower with views onto the jungle, and double doors from the bedroom leading onto the wooden deck overlooking the trees and offering a partial sea view. Separate stairs lead upto the Blue Cabina, with its own balcony offering sea and jungle views. The bedroom features a queen size bed, a bar fridge and a shower with separate toilet. Fruit trees and tropical flowers fill the garden, and depending on your timing, you may be lucky enough to enjoy bananas cut straight from the banana trees. Paths allow you to explore the garden but we recommend wearing closed shoes always, and being alert to the local wildlife at all times. Water is collected by 4 x 4000 litres rainwater tanks - this is the water that supplies the house with drinking water, showers, toilets and all watery needs. Casa Alta Vista is accessed by a private jeep track that is only accessible using a 4 X 4. Surrounding the property is tropical rainforest, so you can expect to hear the most incredible cacophony of jungle music from the local birdlife and resident Howler Monkeys, expect to see a variety of colourful birds including Toucans and Hummingbirds and Trogons, expect to see Squirrel Monkeys and White Faced Monkeys swinging through the trees of the garden, and if you’re lucking, you’ll see Costa Rica's iconic Blue Morpho Butterfly. Don't forget to bring your camera and your binoculars! Being a tropical rainforest experience, we also share this environment with local wildlife such as the occasional scorpion, snake or large spider. We recommend that guests are vigilant and observant, particularly when walking in the garden or grounds surrounding the dwellings. For this reason, and also for the various staircases, balconies and decks - Casa Alta Vista is not suitable for young children or pets. Other than fantastic surfing, this incredibly untouched area of Costa Rica offers beautiful beach walks, waterfall excursions, horse riding, boat trips, explorations of the Gulf and its unique marine wildlife, and delicious traditional food in local "Sodas". We have a Caretaker on hand who lives 5 minutes from the house, who was also involved in the building and construction of the property and who knows
