Perfect family holiday home
Fabulous house. 7 of us occupied it and never felt we were in each others’ way.Books galore and plenty of games for youngsters - snooker table, table tennis, badminton etc. The kitchen is amazingly well stocked with utensils and very spacious. Area is beautiful and house situated in a very peaceful Commune. Can thoroughly recommend it.

Great place to stay
We had a lovely relaxing holiday at Andy’s home in Pontarnaud. The house is spacious and had everything we needed for our week, including activities such as pool and table tennis. It is situated in a rural setting next to a working farm and the beautiful town of Brantome is very close by. We recommend seeing the nautical jousting which was great fun! We also had amazing pizza at La Strada- who were kind enough to squeeze us in even though we hadn’t booked. Andy was very responsive and really helpful with our questions prior to arrival. All in all a great place to stay.

Great family holiday in the Dordogne
Pontarnaud was an unqualified success.
The accommodation was perfect for the family holiday - enough space for all the generations. The property was well equipped and the gardens and the pool were well used. We were blessed with two weeks good weather and were able to bbq every night - the Weber worked well!
Andy was very helpful - he arranged transport from and back to Limoges airport. The pool was cleaned twice weekly. The property had more books than some libraries and the kitchen was well equipped.
We visited Brantôme on a regular basis - a beautiful small town with a Friday market and lots of places to eat.

Dépaysant
Location sympathique, au milieu de nulle part mais à proximité de nombre de sites à visiter et d'activités agréables en plein été (canoë, visite de grotte...).
Brantôme, à une dizaine de kilomètres, à découvrir.
La maison en elle-même est très sombre mais cependant agréable à vivre, sa fraîcheur ayant été particulièrement appréciée en ce temps de canicule.
La terrasse et le jardin gagneraient à être très sensiblement défrichés: nous n'avons jamais pu en profiter (hormis la seule piscine, indispensable) pour déjeuner ou dîner à l'extérieur, par peur des frelons, malheureusement très nombreux pendant notre séjour (probable nid dans la cheminée).
Au final, semaine néanmoins positive.

calme et tranquillité dans une magnifique maison
Nous étions 5 nous avions beaucoup de place. La maison est pleine de coins et recoins .comme les murs sont très epais il y fait très frais même si il fait très chaud dehors. Et la piscine permet de se rafraîchir après bain de soleil.
Pontarnaud est une enclave anglaise en Périgord : la télé, les livres, les DVD, sont en anglais ! On peut pratiquer!
Petit bėmol: si le temps est médiocre et le vent de nord ouest l'odeur de l'étable voisine est très forte (mais c'est rare !)
Nous reviendrons avec plaisir

A beautiful and very well-equipped house in a tranquil location
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Pontarnaud! Our party was made up of a family of five and a couple, and the size and layout of the property meant that we could easily spread out and not get under each other's feet. The house is huge and is beautifully decorated and furnished, and it stays lovely and cool even when it is very hot outside. We made good use of the wonderful kitchen, which is equipped with everything you could possibly need. The pool was set in a lovely big garden which was completely private, being enclosed by a tall hedge, and the garden was mainly laid to lawn but had a number of trees and shrubs. The position of the property makes it ideal for a 'get away from it all' holiday as it was in a very small hamlet - it did mean that you had to drive a little way to get provisions, but the tranquillity of its location more than made up for this. We didn't venture too far as we really wanted a week of doing not very much at all, but we did discover beautiful Brantome, which is a very pretty little town on the river Dronne, and we hired some canoes out here. We also visited the village of St Jean de Cole, which is a very special place and should not be missed on a visit to the area. Andy and Fiona were very generous hosts and the house had a real 'home from home' feel to it. We have no hesitation in recommending this property to other holidaymakers who are looking for a lovely and comfortable place to stay in a quiet and peaceful part of the Dordogne.

Tranquillity in Rural France
The first thing to say is that if you need bright lights and activity this may not be for you. If you hanker for peace in a beautiful rural setting surrounded by fields, woods and walking, it could be nigh on perfect.
Pontarnaud is situated in a small community of perhaps 4 or 5 dwellings adjacent to a farm. The house is large with an interesting layout - lots of wooden stairs leading to the myriad rooms. It is almost 2 houses in 1, with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom on the ground floor, with 2 further bedrooms and bathroom on the second floor at the other end of the property. Overall well-equipped with everything you could wish for although some of the equipment could do with being updated, for example the oven.
The garden is lovely with an outside patio and perhaps most notably a great pool that is large enough for sensible exercise if desired! The pool is serviced weekly and we benefitted from a visit by the regular gardener. A small problem with the locks was quickly resolved by the owner. Thank you for the speedy response.
The property is some 10 miles from the lovely town of Brantome (supermarket) but we were able to cut a deal with a nearby cafe in Beausejour that supplied us with fresh croissants and pain au raisins each day for our breakfasts.
There are ample walking opportunities direct from the property and some very attractive villages to explore.
Pontarnaud provided us with just what we required - a peaceful week with family, especially our new grandson. If you are interested in the Dordogne away from the tourist hotspots, do consider Pontarnaud. You’ll not be disappointed.

Geräumiges Haus am Land
Das Haus liegt etwas abgelegen, in wunderschöner ländlicher Landschaft, genau das was wir gesucht hatten. Das Haus ist ordentlich ausgestattet, der pool ist erfrischend. Die Gastgeber reagieren schnell und sind ausgesprochen freundlich.
Erwähnen sollte man, daß das Haus direkt neben einem Bauernhof mit Viehhaltung liegt und deswegen Gerüche und ein vermehrtes Auftreten von Insekten zu verzeichnen sind. Uns hat es nicht gestört. Wir würden wiederkommen.

Amazing house in an idiotic location
Although it is a short distance out of Brantôme, this house is worth the extra drive. Perfect for an extended family with all the facilities to keep the kids occupied from an amazing salt water pool, table tennis table, wii. Would definitely book this place again!

Peaceful and Quiet with interesting local sights in easy reach
As a family of five adults and three children, the house was large enough for everyone to spread out and not get under each other’s feet. The kids loved the pool and being able to have breakfast and dinner in the garden everyday was a delight (after the poor weather we have had in England).
The beds were very comfortable, and the large kitchen made preparation of meals easy.
The property is in a farming area, but it is not noisy, no early morning machinery, dogs barking or crowing cockerels.
As already mentioned by another visitor, the neighbour is friendly, he also gave us some of his home grown courgettes, haricots verts, and lovely big beef tomatoes.
If you have children, I would recommend that you visit, le étang, in the village of St Estèphe, about 30 – 40 minutes from Pontarnaud. It is a large lake with a picnic area, seating, swimming with two lifeguards on duty, safe sandy beach for children; you can also go canoeing on the lake, and ample car parking, good clean toilet facilities. It is all free. It is only open during the French summer school holidays. My grand children loved it. I would also recommend Brantôme, St Jean de Cole also only about 20-30 mins away. About 1.30hrs away is the village of Oradour sur Glane. The village was destroyed and the people murdered by the Nazi. Left as it was in 1944. It is now a museum the village is free to enter.
