Just a perfect place for a family holiday
This place is no longer an insider tip anymore... We told everybody, who wants to come down from stress to stay at vederi estate, to relax here. Nothing was missing, we were involded in george an his familiy already at the arrival. It was holiday from the first second on, the kids liked especially the pool and the little dogs, belonging to our holidy-grandma :-). There is no need to count every single item that made this summer holiday perfect. It was all perfect. Thanks to george, meni and poppi !!! We are already planning our summer holiday 2016 and hope to see you back again. Family Lockstein/Jork/Germany

AMAZING!
I know I am going to run out of space if I want to write everything I want to say. We stayed in Villa Alkioni for 8 nights in August of this year with our young girls (aged 9 and 7) and grandmother. From the initial inquiry with George we realised that this was going to be a first class holiday. George is professional and very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. We were met on arrival by Irene, who showed us around the gorgeous villa. It was only then that we realised on entering we had found paradise! The pool was immaculately clean along with the exterior grounds of the villa. This was maintained daily by Popi and Meni. The villa was modern and well equipped, We were home from home! The mattresses are amazing quality as well as the expensive iron beds and gorgeous soft towels. The wifi was a bonus as my husband had emails to catch up with. We discovered that there was a warm tray of Moussaka in the oven. Heaven! We can honestly say that it was the best we had ever tasted. It was made by Georges mother-in-law Meni with organic grown vegetables from the estate. We then discovered a full fridge of milk, cheese, Raki, tomatoes, cucumber, bread, fruits and cereal! This is unheard of in self catering villas without pre-ordering. We didn't need to find a supermarket for at least 3 days! What a wonderful surprise and welcome. This was totally unexpected but greatly received after a long journey from London. As the days progressed we enjoyed our time around the gorgeous pool that was cleaned every morning by Popi without us even knowing it! Reythmnon town was only a 10 minute drive away. It was our favourite town with beautiful cobbled streets and little shops, boutiques, coffee shops and restaurants. There are many beaches nearby which George recommended to us. This was invaluable as we were travelling with young children who wanted to know "are we there yet? every 5 minutes. George also recommended some fantastic restaurants for us to visit. Most are only a short drive from the villa. All in all, we relaxed the minute we arrived at the villa and were sorry to leave. We are still depressed and reminisce of our time spent there. A hidden gem, paradise waiting for you. Our fear now is that our next holiday enquiry with George will be met with "sorry we are fully booked for the next 10 years!". I wouldn't be surprised. Its worth the wait!

Amazing, beautiful and peaceful
I traveled with my 15 year old daughter and we had an amazing time here at Vederi Estates. Georges communication prior to our holiday was very reassuring and his recommondations for car hire, places to visit and restaurants in Rethymnon were spot on. The Villa itself was beautiful, with everything you would need and more on your holiday. A food package is waiting for you with those essentials you need and extra as well. Meni's homemade Mousaka was a welcome and tasty surprise. Poppy comes everyday and cleans the pools for you and the hygiene of the pool is spectacular, this is a salt water pool with a filter, no horrible chemicals are used and I have to say, I was particularly impressed with this. I could go on and on about how wonderful this place is, the setting is beautiful and quiet. My daughter and I completely switched off here so if you like peace and quiet this is definitely a good place to go. A big thank you to George, Meni and Poppy for there hospitality. Stunning
We had a wonderful stay at the Vederi Estate. George and family were most hospitable. The welcome pack was the one of the best we have encountered in 25 years of holiday rentals. The cleanliness was second to non, Poppy looked after the outside like an angel. The only thing that spoiled this possible peaceful tranquil place was the dogs, both on site and in the village, they barked morning, noon and night keeping us awake every night. Being in a valley the noise echoed around the hillside so 6 or 7 dogs soon sounded like a massive pack. Too noisy.

A little paradise close to the city, so far away from the real day life.
Vedari Estate is located in beautiful Cretan nature, only 15 minutes far away from Rethymno city. Staying there is a really pleasure. From the first moment we enjoy the place privacy, great hospitality and feel like home. We had unforgettable moments there and relaxing time. We choice Vederi Estate every year for our summer holidays since 2010 and we wish to be there again. Excellent vacation for summer and winter time as well, especially for people who love nature excursions.

The most idyllic place to stay
We had two glorious weeks staying in George and Irene's villas in Vederi, Crete. Our two children (10, 9) had the most enjoyable, uninterrupted pool time, we had the most relaxing time around the pool and taking in the amazing views over the olive groves and to the mountains. The area is so peaceful and you really feel like you are getting away from it all. The villa is decorated to the highest standard and George and Irene really go out of their way to make you feel very welcome and special, bringing home-made greek dishes, cake and pastries - delicious. The villa is a short drive from the seaside town of Rethymno which has some truly world class restaurants that we would highly recommend, our favourites being Castle Vecchio, Avli & Alana. I would recommend the location to anyone wanting to spend time together as a family in a beautiful setting with high quality accommodation. We left feeling like a member of George and Irene's extended family and we definitely hope to visit again some time soon !

A little piece of heaven
I can't remember when I last stayed anywhere which exactly lived up to the pictures, but our villa at Vederi Estate more than lived up to the photos - it totally exceeded our expectations. The 3 villas are set in a peaceful olive grove a mile or so outside the nearest village. All 3 are in immaculate condition, well-furnished and with everything you could need for a perfect stay - air conditioning upstairs, a deluxe spa shower, a jacuzzi, washing maching, dishwasher, barbecue, Wifi, satellite TV (not that we watched it much) and DVD player, a good supply of fresh towels including towels for use by the pool, and a generous welcome pack of provisions to get the holiday started smoothly. The jewel in the crown for me was the wonderful balcony outside the master bedroom which had fabulous views over the olive grove and surrounding forest by day, and of the star-strewn sky by night (including a great view of the milky way). We awoke to the soothing clanking of goat bells (which I think were attached to sheep rather than goats), and the chirping of crickets, and I spent many a happy afternoon dozing on the sun loungers while the kids spent so long in the pool I'm surprised they didn't develop gills. Nothing was too much trouble for George and his family, who went out of their way to be helpful and friendly, yet discreet. They guided us to the villa on our day of arrival, showed us all the amenities in the house, and had cooked us a wonderful home made Cretan dinner (even catering for us having a vegetarian in our party). They arranged for Nathalie, a local masseuse, to visit which was definitely a holiday highlight for my husband and teenage daughter. And they kept the grounds and pool in good order throughout our stay without being at all intrusive, also providing us with a good supply of fresh organic fruit and vegetable s grown on the estate (figs, tomatoes, peppers etc.). Like other reviewers, we fell in love with this place and didn't stray too far - other than a few trips into the beautiful town of Rethymno to wander amongst the winding streets, and a memorable drive to see the antiquities at Knossos. The whole experience from initial enquiry to warm welcome and friendly farewell has been a pleasure and we are already planning a return journey. Many thanks to George and family!!

The Vederi Estate - probably the best kept secret in Crete....until now!!
From the moment we arrived in Rethymno, we knew we were in for a special holiday. Having arrived late at night into Crete, we did not get to Vederi until close to midnight, but this did not stop George and Irene from the most glorious welcome to our holiday. The fridge had been stocked with fresh produce from the estate and despite the late hour, they took time to show us around the villa and ensured that we were well versed with where everything was and how it all worked. The 'coup de grace', however, was the walk through onto the terrace overlooking the pool, where the table was laid for dinner with wine in the fridge and candles flickering on the table.The dinner, a local lamb special, was warming in the oven! A more luxurious and welcoming start to our holiday could not be imagined! The villa itself is beautiful and looks out onto the olive groves of the estate and the hills in the distance. The sounds of the goat bells gently clanking in the neighboring field were a lovely sound to wake to as the sun rises over the bedroom terrace. The villas are described as being 'luxurious and traditional' but this does not really do them justice. High quality furnishings and fittings abound, with air conditioning (or a fire for winter travelers), tiled floors and stone walls and a well equipped kitchen and although the photos on the website are excellent, the spacious aspect of the villa needs to be seen to be truly appreciated. The Vederi village itself is really tranquil and the close by village of Prines offers tavernas and local shopping (although the gardens of the estate will keep you stocked with fresh vegetables for organic Greek salads) Rethymno is a 15 minute drive away and this is another gem of the area, with narrow streets selling beautifully crafted local products, a lovely Venetian harbour and fantastic restaurants. Although we have heard of the beauty of the local beaches, sadly we cannot comment as we were so enamored with the villa that we rarely ventured afar to explore the rest of Crete! We cannot recommend the Vederi estate highly enough. It is a place, that although we would like to keep as a 'best kept secret', the hospitality that George and his family have shown to us is such that we want everyone to experience the same beautiful holiday that we have had. We have always preferred to travel to new places for our holiday, but rest assured, this is one place that we will come back to again and again!

Great Extended Holiday Villa
We very much enjoyed our stay at Vederi Estate. The villa was beautiful, perfectly maintained, and delightfully furnished. In addition, the swimming pool was sparkling clean and perfectly treated. We highly recommend this property to anyone, especially families, who wish solitude and distance from the faster paced coastal destinations, without sacrificing quick and easy access to the city when needed. The location is ideal for an extended stay with easy day trips to various points of interest. For excursions to other parts of the island, this villa could easily be used as a centrally located base, leaving most belongings safely behind, while spending a few nights in a hotel elsewhere. It's always nice to return " home" after an excursion elsewhere on the island. And, I must say we truly did feel at home as the owner and his family made us feel as though we belonged there. Wnen we did have a minor problem with the washer it was immediately attended to by a professional plumber. Moreover, even though there was a brand new coffee maker in the kitchen, we preferred a coffee press and so the owner's wife immediately purchased one and had it delivered in time for our first morning's breakfast along with a delicioius batch of local cookies and cakes. We were truly impressed by the great welcome we received at Vederi Estate. Again, it is with pleasure that we recommend Vederi Estate. We are certain you will absolutely love the place!

great holidays in Creete
This property is very well situated in the beautiful countryside and at the same time close to the village Prinès . 5 minutes by car and 15 minutes by walking . There you can find a good restaurant and grocery . From the house it's very easy to go by car to the seaside . The house : perfect for 2 persons or for a family . You can enjoy the swimming pool and at the same time also the garden with is typical vegetation . This kind of "stone house" is good when the weather is hot , because it's fresh inside . Good and complete equipment for the kitchen and bathroom . Comfortable bedrooms with large terrace . Music and television in the lounge . The owners are very very friendly !
