Countryside location with coast, town and city, all within easy striking distance.EAST YORKSHIRE is a well-kept secret and we are proud of Hull, being City of Culture in 2017 with its legacy, only 20 minutes away. Come and see for yourself why David Hockney favours the area. HORSESHOE COTTAGE, rated 4* GOLD by Quality in Tourism, is situated on the quiet street of Nordham, North Cave; originally one of the gardener's cottages to Fawley House. Horseshoe Cottage is on the edge of North Cave village with fabulous countryside from the door. The cottage is styled to be comfortable, cosy and relaxing. The bright sunny kitchen leads into the dining room where there's a table which can sit up to 8 people. There's a games and books cupboard, TV and lots of tourist information. The sitting room is opposite the dining room with two sofas and easy chairs. David Hockney pictures show famous East Yorkshire views, and coffee table and basket have books on Yorkshire, to browse through at leisure. The hallway leads round to the base of the stairs where there's a bathroom with shower over the bath. The stairs has two windows looking into the cottage south facing courtyard garden. At the top of the stairs there's a single room, which can accommodate another bed, and a family bathroom. There's also a large twin room which can accommodate another bed and there's a master bedroom with king sized bed & windows facing W and NW, so lovely and sunny in the afternoon. Our beds are much commented on for their comfort, so you can be sure of a good nights sleep. In the courtyard garden, you will find sunbeds, a bench and a outdoor table to sit 8 and perhaps enjoy cooking up a feast on the log BBQ. There's also a building which has extra fridge/freezer space, more washing facilities and can be locked to keep your bikes safe. Off road parking for 2 cars on the gravel drive. If you have a large vehicle, please speak to Louise and she will try to be accomodating. We aim to be as green as posible and look after our environment. We grow our own veg in the gardens to Fawley House which have fruit and vegetable growing areas. When available and in season, we offer you a fresh veg basket during your stay. Flowers in the cottage are all home grown. In the village there's a playground, the North Cave Wetlands bird sanctuary with picnic area, and Wild Bird Cafe is only a 5 minute walk away. There's great walking for adults & also walks with children & pushchairs; details of varied routes from the door in the information file. If you have children with you, then Williams Den is a must and is on the outskirts of the village. The village offers the shop/post office, perfect for the basics, papers & wine; a veg stand on the street near the cottage is perfect and there's also another really good fruit and veg shop 'Walkers' on the edge of the village. There's even 2 hairdressers! Our pub, the White Hart has an excellent Fish and Chip Shop 'The Catch' in the car park, so you can enjoy a drink and fish & chips in the evening sun or bring them back to Horseshoe Cottage. The Hotham Arms, approx. 20 minutes walk through the park, serves good food and it's a stunning flat walk to build a thirsty appetite! We recommend booking as it's very popular. Tell Jo I sent you and he will look after you. 4* GOLD cottage, assessed by Quality in Tourism: we work hard for our star rating, striving to offer our customers a welcoming, and comfortable environment, which is well cared for and regularly maintained .We like to involve our visitors by asking for their suggestions, and our regulars can see we have listened. Our visitor comments make us smile, and it's good to know we have relaxed and happy customers. Here's just some of our comments below, please look at our reviews to see what we are about. We are proud to say that all our reviews are 5 * - 'A wonderful place for a relaxing break', ideal for a long weekend/midweek holiday for 2 to 5 people, away from the stresses of everyday life. We have many lovely remarks about Horseshoe from our visitors. Other Trip Adviser reviews are: ' Perfect cottage in perfect village', 'A beautiful well appointed cottage', 'Everything you hope it will be'. Fawley House Garden next door, is open for the The National Garden Scheme, and it is possible to see the gardens during your stay, which raise money for nursing and caring charities such as Macmillan, Marie Curie, Help the hospices. If our smaller cottage for a couple is already booked, we are happy to take bookings for just 2 people in Horseshoe, with a discount for reduced occupancy. Alternatively, Horseshoe can sleep up to 7, with 3 extra beds (£30 extra/bed), and it can also be linked to Bay Tree Cottage, next door to sleep up to 9. Useful for wedding parties, family celebrations and businesses. In March 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 our Nordham Cottages entry to the East Yorkshire Tourism awards was shortlisted, and we were given a place as a finalist for the Remarkable Self Catering Provider category, something we are really proud of. Buying FOOD during your stay: A really good supermarket selling local meats and local bakery products, and butchers are five minutes away at South Cave. The bigger supermarkets, are only 15 minutes away at Market Weighton and Brough. Our village shop is also great for basics. Drewtons farm shop is also only 5 minutes away and has some great specialist and locally produced foods.Drewtons also has a great cafe, good for breakfast, lunch or an indulgent afternoon tea. As well as the 2 pubs within walking distance, there's the Fox and Coney Pub at South Cave where you will also find a chemist and gift shops, and antiques and a good Italian bakery. The Wild Bird Café at The North Cave Wetlands, makes great bacon sandwiches in a morning and is only at the end of the our road. Tell Tina we sent you! Enjoy a walk round the lakes whilst you are there, seeing spectacular wading bird life, including Avocets. Lovely ' destination' walks - the Pub at Hotham , approx 20 mins, and also Drewtons Farm Shop for a delicious award winning breakfast/lunch/afternoon tea. If you really want to work up an appetite you can walk to the much renowned gastro pub The Star at Sancton, this takes approx 1 hour. If you are just looking for a Chinese to bring back to the cottage, Newport is only 5 minutes away in the car. There is also a pizza delivery service if don't want to cook or move! If you are looking for a cottage to be able to enjoy the CYCLING, we have some testing cycle rides around here on quiet roads, enjoying the best of the Wolds, and we are happy to share our knowledge of local routes. We have 'cycle lock up' so your bikes are safe. OUR LOCAL TOWNS Beverley is one of Yorkshire's best kept secrets and is voted one of the best places to live in the UK. Renowned for its exquisite 13th Century Minster, the town is home to a lively market, and a thriving music scene, excellent flat racing and a medieval skyline that remains refreshingly unspoilt. Market Weighton was once the location of Britain's largest sheep market. The quaint rural town is also the birthplace of William Bradley, Britain's tallest recorded man. Celebrated today for its farmer’s market, duck pond and pretty red tile roofs, the town is an essential stop on any tour of the Yorkshire Wolds If WALKING is your thing, there are some excellent walks from the door, with 2 longer walks created by leading walking journalist Fiona Baltrop who stayed at Horseshoe cottage in October last year. Another long walk was created for us by some keen walkers who stayed a while ago. We have a walking section in our info file for enthusiasts. If you want a really long walk there's the Minster Way & the Wolds Way. PLENTY TO DO for adults and for children too: Williams Den is a great new place for adventurous children and families, just on the outskirts of North Cave. If you have green fingers, there are two plant Nurseries in the village and Fawley House garden to visit; Bird watching; Kayaking on a Saturday; Walking and great cycling. Indoor bowls is offered in the winter months. Riding, Clay Shooting & Motor Cross Track 5/10 minutes away. We even have a Dive centre! There's the very popular Drewton's Farm Shop to visit which has produce, wine, gifts and a great restaurant (a customer favourite) and the Bird of Prey Centre less than 5 minutes away.Enjoy the clean fresh air and the peaceful Wolds countryside famed by Hockney. Discover the nearby towns and cities such as Beverley, Hull and York along with many others and explore the East Yorkshire coastline, which varies from white chalk cliffs to long sandy beaches stretching from Flamborough Head to Spurn Point. Suggestions for HOLIDAYS WITH THE CHILDREN - The village playground is 5 mins from the door, and the park between North Cave and Hotham is great for biking, scootering etc. Willimas Den on the outskirts of North Cave is new for adventure play. Bird of prey centre also just on the outskirts of the village.Dive into The Deep and discover the mysteries of the sea, a great place to go if it's a wet day. If its a sunny day, why not head for Flamingo Land. Visit the dramatic chalk cliffs at Bempton with world renowned bird-life to see. Walk along the sandy beaches at Bridlington, Hornsea and beyond. Jorvik Viking Centre in York to see how the vikings lived. There's North York Moors National Park; Royal Armories in Leeds; a day at the seaside: so many resorts to choose from ! Seven fun packed' days, and Horseshoe Cottage is ideally located to be able to do them all. These are just a few of the many things you could do. After a good day out, return to a relaxing, well equipped home and if the weather is good, light the log barbecue and enjoy an evening outdoors...perhaps not in the cooler months! If you'd rather have a cosy night inside, snuggle up round the fire with a film or enjoy a few of our board games with the family or friends. WHAT’S ON IN THE AREA? À propos du quartier
The location is very much favoured by our visitors because it makes such a great base to enjoy a varied holiday. From here, you are in easy reach of the motorway, so getting here & getting away is simple. E Yorks isn't bunged with traffic like some parts of the country, so journey times are quick. The favourites mentioned by our guests are: nearby 'Drewtons' - a great place to eat and buy local foods; Beverley with it's individual shops & eateries; Hull city of culture with its vibrant scene; Our lovely local village walking; Bempton Cliffs (stunning) & the coast which is easily accessible; Our many local towns & also York. The all new Williams Den adventure play centre for young families, will be no doubt be a new favourite on the list.
Déplacements
Best to have a car to use at our cottages to get the most from your trip. We have had customers arrive on bikes and electric bikes as well. There is a bus to the village from Hull.
