Unique and friendly place to stay
Celian, our host, could not have been more helpful and welcoming. He speaks very good English and has a wealth of knowledge about the area.
The gite is lovely and is decorated with charm but there is also a decent kitchen, washing machine and dryer and BBQ onsite, so all modern conveniences if you need them. The place is also spotlessly clean with lovely linens.
Useful things to know - bring soap, washing liquid and detergent etc as they are not supplied. Our stay was extremely good value so we had no issue paying an additional cleaning fee and tiny charge for overages in electricity. Also, as with many French gites, there are no fans or AC, the walls of the Château are thick and there are shutters than help keep the rooms relatively cool, but it does get warm during the hot months. Not an issue for us but it might be for some.
Overall, we loved our stay and thought it was a great base for exploring Chinon, Saumur and the surrounding area. We loved spending evenings looking up at the stars and are children enjoyed bat, frog and deer spotting in the garden.

Interesting
It’s an interesting place to stay, close to Chinon. Helpful owner who speaks good English. Was surprised however, by the need to pay for electricity- not mentioned before we arrived. Also, the upstairs toilet is a masserator (not made clear in Chateau description) and makes an awful noise, at night this is a little inhibiting.

An individual and splendid property, what a find.
Near to Chinon with views of the town, the converted 'Pigeonnier' with a private garden area within the grounds of Chateau De La Vauguyon is very special. Spacious and well presented, and an excellent base from which to explore this wonderful region. Celian Duthu, the owner was extremely helpful with good advice of places not to miss. It is certainly a Gite to recommend and one we hope to visit again.

relaxing in medieval environment with modern equipment
Our stay at the round tower of the castle of Vauguyon was majestic.
In a quiet, medieval environment with great view we enjoyed having a modern equipment. With our dog we could hike in the near beautiful nature.
By car we visited the castles of the Loire. From our bedroom window and our garden we almost could touch dozens of deer. Fabulous.

Well located accomodation in the Loire Valley
We spent a week in Chateau La Vauguyon for a family vacation in April.
The Chateau is very well located in Chinon, with all the major siteseeings within one hour drive maximum between Tours, Saumur and Angers
Célian is a very nice accomodating host and a dog lover.
The appartment is spacious and tidy, overlooking fields and vineyards of Chinon
I would definiitely recomand this address

Fabulous
We (wife and 7 yo) stayed in the dovecoat for a week and had an exceptional time. The chateau was lovely - very quiet and relaxing. It was a great base to explore all the nearby chateau and wineries. The host was engaging and very informative. Would love to stay here again.

The Sweet Life in the Loire
Chinon is an exceptional place, with its restored chateau and its museum. Chateau de la Vauguyon is a couple of kilometres from it, so it is not in the centre of the small town. That's a great boon because it is possible to park. We usually walked into Chinon (allow half an hour), but it is possible to drive and park alongside the river. I wouldn't advise driving in the centre. The chateau itself has two gites. We had the smaller, with two bedrooms upstairs, and a living room, kitchen and bathroom downstairs. The bedrooms are spacious, and there is only one drawback, which is that only the second bedroom has hanging space for clothes and a wonderful host who is able to direct guests to the places that will best please them. It's a great place to stay while exploring the area, and there is something very special is staying in a building with such a history.

Many thanks for your review it is fine for next visitors who want to come to Chinon and also at my chateau . I hope that your stay had been very nice in Nantes and then in Paris ; did you have news about you camera ? Wonderful holiday location with atmosphere
We had a very atmospheric stay at Chateau de la Vauguyon. The rooms are very spacious and nicely furnished, and the terrace offers a stunning view over Chinon and its fortress. The castle and its surroundings are very quiet, perfect for a relaxing vacation The landlord was always very helpful and provides many useful and practical hints (vineries, excursions, shopping, etc.).

Tranquility, wines, chateaus and hospitality
The location was breathtaking. A 800 years old chateau, history all over the place. The owner is very helpful and trustworthy, the perfect host. The rooms are spacious and well equiped, plus the beds are perfect. Slept so well every night. Very peaceful right outside the centre of Chinon. Where you, by the way, have a lot of fine restaurants and shops. It would be a pleasure to come back to Chateau de la Vauguyon.

Comfortable stay in a quiet yet central place that oozes history
We stayed with a family of 4 for a week at the Vauguyon and thoroughly enjoyed Celian's hospitality in his castle. The place oozes history, with stories about Rabelais, Richelieu etc. Yet facilities have been fully refurbished with a lot of style offering all modern comfort.
Location is perfect. Just a few km from the historic city of Chinon, and many famous Loire castles (Villandry, Langeais, ...) within a half hour drive.
Celian is a great host, providing full privacy in our fully secluded section of the castle, but being available with generous stories and advice when needed. Warmly recommended for families as well as couples looking for a romantic getaway.
